I was having a hard time deciding weather I should get the parrot bebop or the phantom 2 vision+ and in the end I went with this despite the large amount of negative reviews. I took a chance and I am pretty happy with it. First of all, there is documentation for the drone but you need to download it from their website. Definitely need to do this. A few things they don't tell you is that the battery connector needs to be pulled out from the slot in order to clip onto the battery. Very easy. Some reviewers say it's tough but it might be because they didn't know you just pull it out with the string attached to it and then tuck it right back in.
Another thing you need to do is enable location services on you iPad or iPhone so that the app can use it. It's actually located in settings then privacy and select the free flight 3 app and permit it when the app is open. This will allow you to easily download the maps on the free flight app and to me most importantly allow you to use the return home accurately. I was having issues with the return home and it would indeed fly away from me but I believe that happened because I did not configure location services for the app correctly. When I did this it worked AMAZINGLY! Another issue I ran into is calibration and setting the trim. I was a bit confused when calibrating because I would get 2 green checks and 1 red one. This is OK. I had to look at the 3 tutorial videos on YouTube which I would highly recommend you watch to figure that out. After I verified this it still wouldn't fly in place very well and sometimes fly away from me! I realize it was because of how I set my trim. You MUST put the drone on a level surface to set the trim otherwise it goes crazy. It's in the manual online! Again you must read this. I read ALOT of reviews that the drone would fly away and it's probably because of this setting. Before I knew what this was I even set it in mid flight and that was a bad idea!! READ THE MANUAL!
This was my first quadricopter and these are the main issues I ran into. Most of them were because of user error and I wouldn't be surprised if that's the same reason for most reviewers.
The video quality is OK. Not like a gopro but hey it's a $500. The size is awesome. Ultra portable. The free flight app SUCKS. Horrible. Random crashes especially on my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.1.2. I noticed the app ran MUCH MUCH better on my iPad mini 2. Way more stable. Still getting the hang on the touch screen controls but I think I will get the controller when it is available separately but for now the iPad isn't horrible. It is a learning curve though. Especially when the drone is flying towards you the controls are inverted but this was confusing to me because I'm still a rookie.
Overall this drone is FAST, FUN, SMALL, takes decent video, it is a little difficult to learn due to the lack on specifics in the documentation but you can use common sense to figure it out. App can be better but runs ok on my iPad. I don't know if I would trust this drone 100%. I can see why the phantom is great because it doesn't rely on a software controller when this does and I'm sure it's much more reliable. If you don't care for professional grade video and just wanna get up in the air to mess around and film occasionally decent cool videos, get this and you will be pretty happy with it.

The product is good. A bit difficult for me to manage it from iPad.. If you can buy the remote control as well, probably is a good idea.

Fun and easy to fly. The photo and video qualities are good but not great. The image compression ratio is very high. The drone can hold its position in open-sky fairly well even when windy. It tends to drift when there's partial blockage. Battery life is about 10 minutes. Overall, it's fun to play with and the quality is good enough for casual recordings.

Had to get help from my son to set up the remote app on the phone. Once they got it in the air they had a blast.

I have been flying my BeBop for about 6 months. It takes great video, is incredibly stable, even in wind, and is a lot of fun. Here are a few things I've learned:
1) Buy the Best Buy Protection Plan for this product. Saved my butt when I lost connection on the 2nd day at 40 feet in the air (busy Wi-fi interference in neighborhood) and it crashed into a tree, a roof, and the ground when it tried to return to launch point. Replaced drone. Thanks, Best Buy.
2) Download and install latest software app for phone/tablet AND firmware for drone BEFORE first flight.
3) Check for wi-fi interference in the settings screen before you fly. Avoid flying very close to houses, especially your own (so your phone does not connect to your own wi-fi router by mistake, instead of the drone).
4) If flying with a phone as a controller, set call-blocking, so a phone call does not interfere with you flying the drone.
5) Practice in an open park or field until you get comfortable with controlling the drone. If you lose connection, you want no obstacles between drone and launch point.
6) If you start to lose control (it is flying fast away from you when you are trying to bring it toward you), lift your thumbs off the controls; it will stop and stabilize. It is probably facing a different direction than you thought.
7) If you have a rough crash, make sure the little antennas on the rear legs have not broken off. They are replaceable and not too expensive, but it took 6 weeks for my replacement to arrive. You might just want to order one for spare parts. And if the wire broke off in that crash (mine did), you need a special wire with connector to reattach the antenna. I got that at a local electronics hobby shop.
Overall, a durable, affordable drone for really nice video. Pics are probably good too, but I have so much fun with the video, i have not tried the photos ...

Great drone once you figure it out

This drone works great and can take some great stable videos and pictures. Just check youtube and you will see. I gave it 4 stars due to the lack of instructions, but the drone is great, once you figure it out. I crashed a few times and this drone is built well. No damage other than a few mark when it hit the wall of my house full speed. (operator error) I found out after a few flights that using the joypad setting on the app makes this drone much easier to fly and more precise. Cant wait for the sky controller.
I would not recommend flying with Ace or Normal mode unless you are used to that. Also make sure to calibrate your drone!! There is not a lot of info in the box on the drone so make sure to check online as there is a lot more info there.

I had 1 nice flight with this quad copter before it lost signal (150' from my location) and drifted off. It wasn't too big a deal as I found it about 15 minutes later. Then on Christmas Day, I took off to show my kids and the Bebop Parrot decided to have a mind of its own at about 50' high and took off on its own, never to be seen again. Looking to buy this? I say no... Just, NO !

First, the drone is great. It is easy to learn to fly, the camera is good, its good. That said, there are limited (hardly any) instructions, and one of the MOST IMPORTANT that they do not bother to tell you is what happens when the drone loses connection to your phone or tablet, which happens a lot closer to 150' than the 300' it says on the box.
The drone has the ability to lock it's gps location. You have to tell it to do so, unlike more expensive models. It does not always lock, and tends to freeze the phone app. The problem is that if you managed to tag a gps point 20 miles away, if you lose signal, the drone hovers for 2 minutes and them takes off at speed toward wherever the last gps reading was. Since it does not have the juice to fly 20 miles, the drone disappears, and so does the $500 you just spent.
YOU DO NOT LEARN THIS FROM THE INSTRUCTIONS OR THE TUTORIALS. You learn it from googling "parrot beebop flew away" and reading the horror stories.

Relatively simple to get started with. It flies very well and is easy to operate via the freeflight app. It has a nice quality camera that records a very clear and steady full HD footage and can be tilted independently of the drone. But what I like the most is how rugged this drone is. It for sure takes a beating and keeps on flying!

Great Aerial Camera and Copter for Starters

First of all Echo, the Best Buy phone rep, was remarkable. She helped track one down before the holidays and get it to us in time for Santa to deliver it. This was no small task given units would appear available and sell out as they were released by Parrot. Often over the three week period, the item would be removed or canceled right out of my shopping cart while finalizing the transaction due to the demand. Regarding the Bebop, easy to setup and fly after charging the batteries. My 10 year old son jumped right on the controls and did some basic free flying indoors and outside when the weather permitted. It drifted indoors considerably at first, but was much better indoors once we recalibrated the Bebop and flew it outside. The images and video are good quality. It took a little getting accustom to watching the flight exclusively via the Touchpad/IPad. Downloading the videos to the IPad for viewing is a bit time consuming. We were glad to see it came with 2 batteries and extra propellers. Overall a great aerial photo/video starter set that a father and his son enjoy. We hope to have several more fun stories to share in the years to come once everything thaws.
