Spoiler-free review :) If you are a fan of Ghibli style movies, you will fall in love with the magical and whimsical movie 'Penguin Highway'. I was afraid it would be too much for kids but as an adult I really enjoyed the film and kids will love it also! First of all, the penguins. They are SO adorable and there is SO many of them, if you love penguins/anime than this is a perfect movie for you. The way they are animated is just so cute I loved watching them the whole time as the story/plot revolves around them. The theme of the movie is hard to explain but without spoiling anything there's lots of 'magical stuff' and it creates a lot of great moments throughout the movie. The graphics are very sharp for an anime movie, if you've seen the anime 'Your Name' it's not quite that HD but it's close in terms of ultra-realism but 'Penguin Highway' still retains a slightly more 'cartoony' aesthetic, somewhere inbetween 'Your Name' and something like a Ghibli movie but definitely modern. This is a movie I plan on rewatching many times so I'm glad I just bought it instead of renting it. Super cute movie, the story is really interesting, the anime art is breathtaking throughout, I highly recommend this to anime fans, adults and children alike! Disclaimer: I am a Best Buy employee

A penguin highway, typically, is the path penguins travel to reach their nesting grounds. But when a bunch of penguins are discovered traveling through the woods to reach a mysterious orb, it's hard not to take notice. It's up to three youngsters and a strange lady to figure it out. Cute and a bit comical, this is another enjoyable anime movie.

Going into this film without any context was an absolute trip, but in a good way. It is a strangely complex movie aimed for kids that will have you scratching your head at times, but in a good way. On top of that it is a beautiful movie to look at and has excellent music to accompany it!

A very intriguing concept. How do you retell the typical post apocalyptic theme? I won't tell you but it is a new interesting take on it. If you like anime, then check it out. If you don't like the weird fantasy anime then yeah you already know what that would be.

This is a movie for the whole family to watch. Kids working hard and being little scientists to figure out why, where, and how the penguins arrived. This movie made me laugh, cry, and smile all the way to the end.

This one might not be for everybody, but it is not without some tremendous merits. At its heart, it’s a coming of age story with a science fiction coat of paint.

This anime film is a scientific adventure, filled with magic and of course penguin. A good family film or to share with others that are fans of Studio Ghibli or Hayao Miyazaki.

I wasn't sure I was going to like this one at first, because it takes a while for the oddness to get going. Fortunately, the main character was interesting enough to keep my attention until the penguins started to show up and things got rolling. It was fun to watch this little guy go through his life with grave scientific curiosity and detachment, conducting experiments and exploring the world and being completely oblivious to the affections of the opposite sex. Even his fascination with boobs, which is not uncommon for boys approaching puberty, is almost devoid of the normal emotion and sexuality (which is for the best, TBH, given his age and our invisible presence in his life) - he admires and studies breasts the same way he admires and studies anything. Yet, despite this oddness, the movie still manages to get us to relate to him - it puts us in his headspace, but it also makes it clear that he doesn't know as much as he thinks he does and is naive in his assumption that he has life all figured out at his age. Of course, he's not the only show - there's also the mysterious lady and the penguins, and the solution to the mystery does not disappoint when revealed; it fits perfectly the movie's tone of magical realism. Like I said, this movie takes some patience, but if you can invest that, I think you will enjoy the outcome.

This movie is very well animated, has a very interesting plot but for me falls a bit short with the ending.

As soon as I saw the premise for this film when I picked it up off the shelf, I knew I had to pick it up!
