It's easy to setup and add other users for access using the PetCube App. The laser pointer is fun to use on the dogs and the image resolution is good. You can talk and correct bad behavior using the built in voice control. I'm going to double up and use it as a home security camera. Why not?

Too many issues - had to return

I had great hopes for the PetCube Play, so much so that I was thinking of upgrading to the PetCube Bites. But after almost a month of trying to get it to work, I returned it. I had several issues with it, and customer support could not resolve any of them.
*First of all, the setting for "Care Asleep"..... one would think this means the PetCube is no longer detecting motion or sound, and no longer taking video triggered by either event. However I would get notifications all the time in this mode.
*Second of all, setting for "Care Awake"..... one would think this means not only will you get notifications for both motion and sound, but this should also trigger the video camera to start recording said motion or sound events. This worked successfully only a handful of times during the first two weeks. After that, I would only get notifications for motion or sound detection, maybe one or two videos were actually recorded after sound or motion was detected - it was never consistent. In fact, one of the last days I had it, there was a solid hour of 30 second videos of my dog sleeping on my time line, and I got ZERO notifications. When the videos did work, during the first two weeks, they were maybe seven second snippets of my dog in the middle of something, or 30 second recordings triggered by sound from my TV or some other random background noise like me doing dishes. 30 full seconds of that, but somehow only 7 seconds of my dog at the door barking or scratching, not 30 full seconds of him running to the door and barking/scratching?!?
*Third issue..... limited to one user/cell phone that has access to your PetCube, no desktop/website access. This felt so limiting. Especially when trying to review all the 30 second videos taken of my dog sleeping instead of running around tearing up my house.
*Sound quality of two-way audio..... not so good.
*Video playback..... a few were all green or started off green, or the video greened out right in the middle of playback. Loading video to playback sometimes took over a minute. Otherwise the playback was usually jumpy.
*When I would try to check in on my dog, a lot of the time the video would time out, so I would have to close the app, then open it and try again.
For $200, the expectation is that the device will do everything it says it does on the box and their website. This was not my experience. Even the support page wan't updated (for Android users), and there was no explanation of the icons that showed up on your video timeline. So, it went back to BestBuy. I traded it in for a Samsung SmartCam, which so far has been easier to set up and use, video quality is way better, and when I put the SmartCam in "sleep mode", no annoying notifications.

Hi there,
Thank you for your review. This is Daria. I am a Senior Customer Support Representative at Petcube. I am sorry to hear that your Petcube experience has not been up to your expectations. But I will do my best to address the issues you have mentioned.
Petcube application can send you two types of notifications: 1) Petcube Care notifications of the video being recorded 2) General alerts of the sound or motion being detected. So, if you set your Petcube Care in the 'Sleep' mode, you might still receive push alerts about the sound/motion being detected without any video being recorded. You can find more information on these alerts here https://petcube.com/support/article/motion-and-sound-detection/. To receive no notifications at all, you can disable the general alerts in the app settings.
As for the desktop/web access, we have received numerous requests for a desktop or a web version of the Petcube application and we will satisfy our users' needs with the future updates. Although considering our team is quite small and this is not the easiest task to do, it may take us a few months to accomplish.
We are working on a push-to-talk way of audio interaction and are going to release it with the future updates. As a temporary workaround, to reduce the echo and improve the sound quality, we suggest reducing the volume level in the Petcube app to 70%.
We will be happy to further investigate the issue with the green video feed but we would need more information. I'd appreciate if you could reach me at [email protected] and share the email address you used to contact our support team so that I can retrieve your case.
Thank you again for your detailed feedback on the product. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Best, Daria, Petcube Team

My Cat's Favorite Toy

Whenever I am wondering where my cat is, I check my PetCube Play video and there she is, waiting for the laser. She loves this thing. She camps out in front of it waiting for the motion sensor to start the beam. To be sure, she is a spoiled brat and has plenty of toys from which to choose, but this is her go-to diversion. In close second are the empty soda can boxes that await a trip out to the dumpster.
The only negative would be the lag when controlling the laser from my phone.

The Petcube Play is a wonderful way for me to keep an eye on my dog when I am away from home. The sound and movement notifications are a great feature and allow me to check in and see what is going on in real time. I particularly like the 2 way audio feature, the ability to interact with Nakoma when I am not home is rewarding for us both. The wide camera angle gives me a great view of Nakoma's daytime living area and our front door, so for me it doubles as a home security camera. The Petcube Play is a great buy and I would recommend it to every pet parent.

So far, I'm really enjoying the PetCube Play! Initially, I had trouble getting it to connect to my Wi-Fi (my firewall was the issue), but the customer service team was able to efficiently talk me through adjusting the settings on my router so the PetCube could connect. I love being able to check in on my dog while I'm gone at work, as well as confirming my suspicions that he likes to bark at the window when other dogs go by (see image). Thanks to the 2-way audio feature, I can get his attention and stop the unwanted behavior. He is still figuring out the laser pointer, but I haven't tried calibrating it yet, so we'll see how things go once I take care of that.

I’m not a huge fan of inside cameras, as I don’t like thinking someone could be watching me. However, this tiny cube is a perfect way to babysit my precious little girl (doggie) when I need to be away from home. It’s small and easy to hide inside my home so no one realizes its there. It does have a mounting shelf I saw after purchasing which I’m going to get. It looks like that will make it easier to adjust the exact angle for perfect overall viewing. If you love your pets just as I, you will want to be able to check in to make sure they are doing ok. If they’re sick, you can see how they’re doing, talk to them to calm them down if you’re out and it starts to storm, if they sing to your clock chiming like mine does...you can finally have it recorded to bring joy forever, or even use it to just watch over your home for unexpected visitors. It has both a video and audio feed and alerts you for sounds movements etc. You can speak back and forth with it, monitor even your children. Lol. I believe the recordings might keep for 10 days but I’m not positive on that but they do store for a bit. If you want to monitor a few rooms and or even a different level of your home you can add additional cameras and they all tie in together. They even are supposed to have one that you can play games with your pet and toss treats out to them. I don’t have that one though. I love being able to monitor my baby girl if I’m gone longer than expected. It’s very versatile. You will enjoy the benefits as well.

We love the PetCube and have even thought about getting a 2nd one. Quality is pretty good. Laser has a little delay but still works well. My only issue was that you have to purchase the monthly subscription service for longer video recordings and to see more than the past 4 hours of video archive. I wasnt aware of this when I purchased so was a little frustrated at first but we still enjoy it even without the subscription service.

Great Pet Camera - Easy to Setup

This is a great product. It takes less than 10 minutes to setup and works great. I tend to travel a lot and wanted a way to monitor my cats; this product accomplishes my goals.
Out of the box the product is simple and straightforward. There is 1 cable, a power cable, that needs to be plugged in. Other than that the product uses your home wireless internet connection. It uses a wide-angle lens to capture a large area of activity. For a 500sqft apartment I am able to view the majority of my space. My one tip would be to purchase a tripod that allows this product to be angled downward, as that is where your pets will likely spend most of their time. Through the smartphone app it is easy to use and very user friendly. I have no complaints.
The laser pointer function is not super accurate but I did not expect it to be. I also have not tried to use all of the available features, but this product does allow me to monitor my cats' food/water/general behavior.

I received my Petcube Play about a week ago, and since then I've loved watching my Goldendoodle, Agave play while I'm at work! The installation was very easy, and it was up and running in no time! The picture is clear, and I am so surprised at how wide an area the lens covers! The laser is a fun way to connect with him while I'm away and the sound works great. I'm so glad I bought it!

We purchased the Petcube Play a few days ago and I love being able to spy on my pets while I'm away from the house. It was very easy to set up and I was impressed by the image quality, though this does appear to be dependent on your internet connection. It sends me updates when there is movement in front of the camera and lets me peak into their day while I'm away.

The camera does what I want it to do. It works great most of the time. There are times where it takes over one minute to connect and it had to be reset a few times. 5 stars when it works, less than 3 when there are connection issues.

The camera works great. The video quality is very good in well lit conditions. My main complaints involve the sound option and laser pointer feature. When you attempt to listen in, there tends to be a bit of an issue with feedback, I'm assuming due to the microphone being located near the speaker. If you want to listen in through the camera, you need to be in a relatively quiet location. The laser feature is relatively useless, even after calibration; it seems to have a mind of its own. None of these would prevent me from recommending the product as they were really bonuses. I was only concerned with being able to visually check in on our furry friend.

Hi Josh, thank you for your feedback. While the echo may be caused by simultaneous audio interaction which creates audio loops when you're close to the camera (sound comes out of the speaker and is instantly picked up by a microphone), we would appreciate if you contacted us at [email protected] and provided with some more information. This way we could determine if this issue is an uncommon one and if it needs to be fixed. Thanks! Best, Petcube Team

I was surprised how easy this product was to set up. The video quality is outstanding both during day and at night. We bought this when we went out of town to Myrtle Beach so we could see how our cat was doing. We interacted with him and loved the record and notification feature of when he was on the move. It was fun talking and playing with the laser feature. Our cat and family loves it. When at home we keep it in the kids playroom and when they misbehave it is all caught on tape. Great buy!

The Petcube I still amazing, being able to play with my anainals while I'm at work is absolutely rad. The model I have allows me to talk to my anaimals as well as see them at night. The image quality is top notch and the endless fun is priceless. The only knock I have on this product is the laser. When using it to play with my pets it can be a bit laggy and pretty annoying. If they could fix this, this product would be 5 stars.

i love that i can see what my dogs are up to when i'm not home, and even more that i can actually 'speak' to them through it, and play with them via the laser. it's view is quite wide, much more than i'd thought, so i could actually see the entire room and not just a part of it.
the clarity isn't hd, but it's very good for such a small lens!
the only thing i don't like is the membership program. while it can still be used without the paid subscription, videos disappear after a day or two.
