I love this machine. I love everything but I wish that the espresso container on the top was just a bit larger and it was a bit more engineered. It's all good, Saeco/Phillips make a wonderful espresso machine and I was happy to purchase a replacement one after 15 years.

Tl;dr: This unit delivers the taste of fresh ground coffee with the easy preparation pioneered by Keurig. A single touch delivers your favorite drink each day. With a little extra effort, a latte and or cappuccino can be created. Easy cleaning with a variety of drink offerings make this a strong consideration from a good brand. ------ Just as fresh brew coffee machines have invaded office spaces, this machine aims to bring the best tasting espresso and coffee into your mug each morning with as little fuss as possible. This is a great unit for those inclined towards specialty coffee drinks, but don’t want to head to a shop for each shot. There are no pods, allowing for individual choice on which coffees to use and the freshness of grind on demand. You have your choice of pre-ground coffee or using the built in grinder. You can switch off between beans and pre-ground as needed. Water is in a separate reservoir which holds enough water for a week of drinks. The built in bean hopper holds what you need for about the same number of cups. This brewer is focused on Espresso, Americano, and Coffee. An Americano takes a shot of Espresso and adds water to have a volume of hot liquid with the minimal amount of caffeine contained in an espresso. For those looking for a little more caffeine in their espresso shot, the machine will also create an espresso longo. You can choose to brew either one or two cups of your favorite beverage simultaneously. There are two spouts, so you can easily dispense into separate mugs. However, they’re close enough that a single mug (or even espresso mug) can capture from both easily. The spout can even be lowered to prevent excessive splashing. There’s a “classic” milk frother, which is similar to the steam arm on a high end espresso machine. It can be used to steam milk and create the micro bubbles that make lattes what they are. There are a few videos on the internet which show techniques for preparing milk to be used with espresso shots. Unfortunately, there’s no good instruction on Phillips’ own web site. In short, submerge the wand about 1 cm into the top of the milk, but towards the edge. Create a whirlpool in the milk container to spread the foam around. The texture you want is not like beer foam, but more like whipped cream. The steamer won’t stop on its own. You have to turn it off when you have the foam you want after around 30-40 seconds. You’ll want to use a separate container for the milk, so it can sit while you dispense the espresso shot into your mug. Finally, pour the frothed milk onto the espresso slowly. If you’re feeling ambitious, try to make some art! Whole milk tends to work much better than skim milk, but it does add a few extra calories. If you’re regularly enjoying milk enhanced drinks or pressed for time, I’d look carefully at the next model up which has Phillips’ LatteGo frother. This unit is not as automatic in creating milk infused drinks, though it definitely saves you from having to purchase a separate u nit for those special drinks. Remember to clean it after each use by flushing it with steam, then separating the stainless steal from the silicon connector and washing them both. Cleaning is essential with any food product. This unit makes clean up fairly simple. Spent grounds are dumped into a basket connected to the drip tray. It should be emptied weekly if you’re making daily brews. The brew unit inside can be removed for a quick rise or a short sink wash. Phillips recommends it be washed on a weekly basis. They recommend the moving parts be greased annually to keep it in top shape. It comes with a water filter which should be replaced every few months, depending on your water. There’s also a descaling function which should be run periodically to keep all the interior parts in good shape.

This is a fantastic machine for the price. I really love the customization options, like shot size, strength and temperature. I think some other machines go to steam faster with a better or second pump. But it's very quiet and fast.

I think that Philips designed this fully automatic machine to follow for you the right number of steps and with the right brewing science for a process that, in less than a minute, generates the exact drink that you are looking for. If real coffee taste is important for you, there are some basic rules that must be followed: use the right water (no too much chlorine or alkalinity), control the temperature of the water that should generate steam at the right pressure to traverse the coffee, the coffee bean should be just grinded seconds before the steam goes through to make sure that there is no taste lost due to the oxidation and finally, the steam must condensate in your cup with the real mix of natural coffee oils. This really sounds a hard work for just a cup of coffee and the idea of repeating it several times for the rest of your life, probably explains why you are paying so much in the coffee shop, but now you can have it at home done right by pressing a single button (you do really three: turning on, selecting the coffee size and activation). Let’s be clear, I am not talking about a drink made with some warm water passing over some ground coffee, producing a mostly sour drink, insipid, that in the best case puts some level of caffeine in your body. I am talking about a full of flavor drink that changes your perception of coffee taste forever. About the machine, there are a couple of elements that are important to mention, because we are talking about having options: 1.-While the espresso-size could transport your brain to Italy, this is not exclusively an espresso machine. In each cup, you can combine independently up to four variables: coffee cup sizes (up to four), plus the quantity of water (three measures), plus quantity of coffee (three measures) and water pressure level (three options) that will keep you busy experimenting for a while until you find your own preference. I think (math teacher help!) we are talking about 324 combinations. 2.- The machine includes a programmable grinder to transform your beans in the ground size needed and is also absolutely customable. The grinding level is an additional element that affects the taste and caffeine level that goes in your coffee cup. Additionally, the machine includes also a separate reservoir in case you have already ground coffee at home. 3.- If so many options give you the sense of complication, please be aware that your choice (water-quantity-pressure and grinding size) stays in the machine’s memory even when is off. 4.- The machine turns automatically off, when is not being in use for a while to save you energy. 5.- If you are not an exclusive coffee drinker, the hot water option will facilitate your tea preparation in no time. 6.- For those moments when you need to add milk to the drink (cappuccino or latte options), you have the option of milk frothed trough steam. This machine is NOT having a milk container added into the machine that would directly add the milk to your cup when the drink is selected, but you (using steam) will prepare the milk at your convenience. This is my preference versus the other models with the container added because: I am not always adding milk to my coffee, I also prefer to keep the milk in the fridge instead of a container in the machine and the number of “kind of milks” available in the market Today are so numerous that probably you will need a dozen (at least) of containers for all the drinkers options. 7.- The water reservoir, is easy to access and to fill and will have enough water for 10 to 15 cups (depending the size of each cup). The reservoir includes a water filter to reduce the chlorine level transferred to the cup. According to the specs, this serves also to reduce the scaling needs and to extend the lifespan of your investment. The machine includes two buttons for filter and scaling maintenance. 8.- The coffee reservoir is big enough for a full pound of coffee beans and according to the specs is sealed to maintain the coffee store reducing the oxidation. The separate reservoir for ground coffee is a bit smaller (like 10 ounces?). 9.- I think that the in the pursuit of the facility, the machine engineer did an awesome job thinking in cleaning. I see at least three cleaning levels in mind: basic, medium and advanced. Basic: after turning on, and during the heating process the machine self-cleans internal pipes passing some hot water before your brew that assures you a clean drink (READ: do not put your cup in the machine right after turning on and until this self cleaning process is done or that dirty water will be in your cup). Medium/daily: the cleaning water, excess of water and other brewing subproducts go in a fully detachable reservoir that you easily access from the front and can be taken out for clearing under the water tap but can also go to the dishwasher (in the specs). Advanced/maintenance: for a full maintenance the machine includes a cleaning/decalc option that surely will serve to clean itself in the non accessible parts but it’s also possible to detach the grinder body to do additional cleaning and/or grinders lubrication. Final considerations, I think that the price is the right one for this kind of fully automatic coffee machine comparing with others in the market that deliver same functionalities. Because I only have it at home for one week, I can not talk about machine lifespan of the investment but all indicators based on observing the “moving parts” (like the ceramic grinders, reservoirs…) seems to indicate that are quite sturdy. Be aware that the water filter in the reservoir will need to be replaced/purchased after some time and you will need to look for the right model. Be also aware that the turning on process: warming the water, activating the grinder, cleaning the pipes.. could be somehow noisy in comparison with a regular brewing machine, not terrible and up to now nobody at home complained for being waken up but to keep in mind. I love it!

Having become used to K-cup coffee makers, I wasn't entirely sold on the idea of this machine. It looks kind of complicated, and if you read the user's manual, it sounds really complicated. In practice, though, it's not. That's not to say there isn't a lot going on behind the scenes, just that when it comes to making a drink, it's quite easy. There is a bit of setup involved, but nothing that complicated. It will take some more maintenance down the line, but not really too much of that either, considering what's going on inside the machine. All you have to do is tell it what kind of beverage you want, push a few buttons and wait. Behind the scenes, it grinds the right amount of coffee for the strength of the brew and the size of the cup you choose, adds the right amount of water at the temperature you select, brews your cup, then dumps the used grounds into an internal bin (that really doesn't fill up that fast). Add a few steps if you want to froth some milk, but that's really it. My wife raves about how good the lattes are - she wanted to give it five stars - but I think it brews the straight coffee a little weak - hence only four stars. The manual says that it learns over time how to adjust the brew, and it wants you to wait until it's had some time to learn before adjusting the coarseness of the grind. So, I may be able to up the strength of the brew later, but not in time for this review. This really takes most of the pain out of brewing your own specialty coffee drinks at home. If those big, complicated espresso machines scared you off, this is the way to go.

This is just about the easiest espresso machine I have ever used. I’ve had a couple of other models which were more traditional with the cup you lock into place, the filter that needs to be cleaned, the packing of the grounds, but this machine doesn’t require any of that. Push a button, get espresso. It’s really that easy. Set-up: All you have to do is put whole beans in the top of the machine, and fill the reservoir with water. Then you can steam milk or make espresso or regular coffee just by pushing the button on the front of the machine. Cleaning: Pull out the tray in the front and you’ve got the water pan and used coffee grounds in containers that come out together. Pour out the water, dump the grounds, you’re done. When the machine powers down, it automatically flushes the spout with hot water. The only thing you have to actually be conscious of cleaning is the milk frother, which you pull off, rinse out, and put back on. I’ve made a video running through all of the options on the machine and demonstrating it’s use. You can find the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Okj3d8zaP4k Overall, this machine makes great coffee/espresso, and really couldn’t be easier to use. If you’re big on coffee, this machine is probably good for you. If you replace the $5/day latte habit with this, it’ll pay for itself in about 3 months…

Below I will summarize the PRO's and CON's that I have personally experience while using this product. PRO's: The machine is sturdy Quiet grinding of the beans The coffee/espresso head slides up and down for easy use. Froths milk quiet nicely. Bean hopper is of decent size and holds a good amount of beans. The filter in the water tank really makes the coffee/espresso have a really crisp taste. The machine brews very fast. You can make restaurant quality drinks right in your own home. Design is very sleek and modern, allowing this machine to fit into any decor. Self cleaning. CON's: The machine is very heavy. Setup is VERY tedious. Just wait till you see ALLLLL the steps. I call the product tempermental due to the fact it thinks the grounds resevoir is full and needs to be opened when you just did it. Multiple other small things. Please keep something underneath the machine. When you add new water to the tank , it will leak it everywhere. Water tank is small. The machine will auto-shut off. When this happens it will run a cycle and dump water. If the catcher is full, you are in trouble. Advise you to leave a cup under the frother and the spouts. When adding water to the resevoir do not allow it to go below the bottom of the filter or the machine thinks it has no water and it "freaks" out on you. You have to go through a process to get it to recognize it has water. To froth milk properly, you should not allow any water in the milk. This steamer does shoot out some water prior to coming on. There is not a way to simply pause the steam. You can only start and stop which is pointless as it will still shoot water prior to steam. I hope this review does help you with making a decision on purchasing this product. I do enjoy this espresso maker, as I love coffee and other beverages. I will really truly want to LOVE this product. I just can't. It hurts my heart to say this. Good luck, and happy shopping!

So I picked this up in the hopes that I could fix some Five-Bucks quality Americano's and Barista quality Espresso drinks from home...I can definitely see the potential of this machine I just haven't quite figured out how to master it just yet...I think you need a masters degree in Barista to take full advantage of this machine but I am getting there. The you tube videos have been a help but a lot of my time with it recently has just been trial and error. I still haven't mastered how to properly froth the milk yet to get it as nice and fluffy as my corner coffee shop but I am getting better. The steamer is a nice feature of this unit along with the ability to dispense hot water for a fresh cup of tea. The buttons make it very easy to determine which drink you want but make sure you understand how to make a cup of coffee with pre-ground coffee grounds because it takes a bit of finagling to get the machine to not want to grind beans and use the ones you already put into it. It also has this funky process where it dispenses hot water out the coffee dispensers each time you turn it on to I guess clean out the pipes. The steamer function also seems to be a bit of a tedious process and takes me a few tries each time until i get the machine to turn on the steam to froth the milk. Cleaning out the old coffee grounds is pretty easy and the removable tray makes it easy to remove and clean out which is a nice feature. Overall I am happy with the taste and quality of the coffee and espresso it makes. I purchased some Black Rifle AK47 Espresso beans to test out the grinding function and espresso drinks and surprisingly the grinding isn't as loud as I was expecting from previous grinding machines I have heard. The espresso was also very good and the ability to change the size of the grinds is also very nice.

Wow, what a fantastic brewing machine! This product is like having your own personal coffee barrister in your own home. Your machine brews up the most flavorful drinks such as cappuccino, coffee, espresso and others. In my home testing of this product, I used ground coffee purchased from one of the major wholesale clubs as well as whole coffee beans from a donut chain. Every brew made was a winner, flavorful and a big smash in our home. We are true coffee drinkers and enjoyed a wide variety of absolutely scrumptious coffee combinations and flavored brews. Two great features is that you can adjust your coffee strength to fit your individual taste as well as how hot your brew is. I personally like mine strong, but other house guests like theirs medium strength. Whatever your heart desires is possible with this product. Having the ability to froth milk is a nice plus. The machine is well made and has a solid feel. A light touch to its sensitive controls triggers your machines immediate response. Philips boasts the coffee grinder can last up to 20,000 cups of coffee, and has 12 grinder settings. I'll have to take their word on the longevity of the grinder. There are more than enough grinder settings to please the most demanding consumer tastes. This machine should last a very long time and comes with a 2 year warranty. When I see a company warrant their product for more than 1 year it gives me a sense of security, so having 2 years of a warranty is fantastic! Power cord is nearly 40 inches in length, which should let you plug in your machine just about anywhere on your countertop without utilizing an extension cord. I have had some coffee makers in the past that had relatively short cords, which made counter placement an issue. I wasn't happy with two things concerning this product. The first on my list was the fact that you are limited to a maximum height of around 5 inches of cup space when you brew your beverages. You are unable to fit a cup larger than this when you brew up your selection. If you're like me, I like to fill a travel car mug with coffee but most travel mugs top off at 7 inches, therefore it doesn't fit underneath the dispenser of the machine. The second thing was a water tank which is smoky in color whereby making it somewhat difficult to view the water level. A clear plastic reservoir would in my opinion have been a better option. That being said, this is certainly not a deal breaker for me. I would have also liked to see a quick start guide with this product. These guides usually have a wealth of great information. Overall, this product is well made and makes an amazing assortment of coffee concoctions. The flavor of brewing a cup of hot coffee from freshly ground coffee beans is second to none. Smooth tasting, great brewed temperature to your liking and having the option to froth milk is a WOW. What else can you ask for? In my opinion, this product is pricey but is high on my recommended list. Overall, I believe that you will be very happy.

We were really wanting to love the Phillips Series 3200 Espresso Machine with Milk Frother, but after about 2 weeks of using it my wife is asking if we can hook back up our old Ninja coffee machine. I was really excited to try this product out because I have been wanting a fancy espresso coffeemaker in my home for years now. We have some amazing Costa Rican coffee here that we were eager use. Don't get me wrong this is a great looking machine and setup was a breeze, it is very well thought out. I just wish the Coffee tasted better, period. The first few cups of coffee my wife and I could best describe them as murky dirt water. We tried to up the strength and it just doesn't make any difference. I do like the one push button simplicity but I wish I had sprung for the frother that automatically drips the milk into the cappuccino's. Using it separately with the cup we could never really get the milk to froth up properly and mixed just right with the coffee. It would have been helpful for some recipes or technique guides or online videos for someone who isn't as skilled at making espresso and cappuccino's. I can understand that some of the more complicated drinks will take time to perfect, but I guess what it boils down to is that this coffee machine, while being simple to use, can't really do simple tasks well. All my wife wants is a good cup of coffee before her hospital shift and the fact that we are about to plug our 100 dollar Ninja coffee maker back in so she can have a better cup speaks volumes. I will still try to perfect the espresso's and cap's and basic cups of coffee to our liking going forward. But so far this Espresso machine has been a bit of a disappointment.
