Review for
Philips - Air Fryer XXL - Black
Wow! I was so surprised by the size of this appliance. It definitely takes up some counter space. That said, here’s the good news. It’s worth every square inch!
This fryer has impeccable design. It not only looks nice, but all of the components work together simply and easily.
The basket has a handle that fits neatly into the cooking container. Both pull out on a well-balanced track that keeps even heavy loads of wings easy to manage.
I made four meals in this to test it’s XXL capacity and was not disappointed once! I first tried french fries from fresh potatoes. Prep was more work than cooking. Reading that I had to soak the fries for 30 minutes, then dry them seemed like too much work. But the included cookbook is better than the generic instruction book that also comes along with the fryer. It advised after soaking the fries to “dry” them in the fryer itself for 10 minutes at a low temp. Worked like a charm. Toss them with a little (1 TB.!) oil and put them back in the cooker. The handle and basket make it easy to pull them out, toss them around a little and put them back a few times during the cooking process (about 30 minutes). They were crisp and delicious.
Next I tried sweet potato fries using what I had learned. (There was no specific recipe.) They were even better! Crisp outside and soft inside; full of flavor.
My third meal was all I was hoping for: chicken wings with Buffalo sauce. There was no specific recipe for the XXL fryer, but I found a good one on YouTube. Simple prep with three pound of wings produced a crispy, delicious dinner! No deep frying, no messy baking trays.
Finally, I had read that you could cook a whole chicken (3-4 pounds) in the fryer. Some people who used larger chickens said they were dry, so I got a three-pound split fryer, pre-seasoned with barbecue rub. I adjusted the time a little since the chicken was split and in 40 minutes had a delicious main dish with little effort! The chicken came out perfect. Judging from the fat that collected at the bottom of the fryer, I could see that we indeed were getting a healthier version of a roast chicken without the mess and fuss.
Added bonus: it’s been a heat wave here, with days in the 90’s, so using the fryer instead of the stove was a real pleasure. it sends some warm air out the back, but not nearly the room-heating effect of using the oven.

First of all - I have been debating the purchase of an air fryer for some time now. In my opinion, most are just too small for the job. Then came this one.
To be clear - it is big. Bigger than I would have thought on the counter. But that's OK.
Big means you can fry up a bunch of things. Like a kid with a new toy, I fried up chicken, French fries and (dare I say) Oreo's on the first day we had it.
Could not be easier to use. Directions and setup were simple. Cleanup is ok - pretty much what I had expected.
The food (especially the fresh French fried potatoes) were amazing. I'm looking forward to experimenting with some different spices and sauces.

When my aunt showed me her new air fryer, and how excited she was to use it (despite it still being in the box in the garage in my grandmother's house) I was skeptical. I figured it's just this generation's version of the Turbo cooker. But now that I have my own, I will freely admit that I'm a convert.
After unpacking and setting up my air fryer xxl, I gave it a test run with some shishito peppers. After rinsing and drying them, all I did was throw them in the basket at 400 for 8 minutes. I dumped them onto a plate, squeezed a lemon over them and sprinkled with sea salt. Delicious and ridiculously simple.
While those were being scarfed down (with the occasional cry of pain when someone got a spicy one) I tossed about 3 lbs of chicken wings with some salt and about a tablespoon of canola oil. 18 minutes later at 375 and out came some of the most delicious wings I've had this side of Wing Stop. The skin was nice and crisp, the meat was juicy, and I picked the bones clean. A big difference from the dried out turbocooked chicken of my youth. There was, however, quite a lot of white smoke (normal with high fat foods like chicken wings), and I did have to run my stove exhaust and open a few windows, but that's to be expected, and at least there wasn't grease spatter everywhere.
Cleanup was a little awkward, as the pieces are large, and the fat and oil that dripped down and crusted onto the fat reducer needed to be scraped off (I didn't do cleanup between batches of chicken wings, so that probably made my life more difficult). And today my wife is wondering just where we are going to store it, since it has quite the footprint and our counter space is limited, though I may try to convince her that it needs a permanent spot in our kitchen.

Golden brown (air) fried goodness!

This is my first adventure into using air fryers. I love fried food and the idea of enjoying it with little to no added oil is great!
To start, this machine is big, which is what I expected given the name – it’s definitely meant for families and entertaining. I used it during a work event fry fish and shrimp (more on this later). The design is very simple – set a temperature based on what you are cooking and set the time and let it run. The machine starts as soon as your set the time and turns off after it runs out.
So far I’ve cooked a variety of frozen foods – chicken nuggets, fries, breaded shrimp, and fish. It does a fantastic job of producing a crispy golden brown color. I really can’t tell the difference between this and a traditional fryer!
Depending on what you want to cook you have to guess a little bit on how long you need to let it run – I wish it had a window and light so you could see the status of what you are cooking up.
Cleanup is super easy and you can throw a lot of the parts in the dishwasher – definitely better than having to deal with a giant container of oil.

The Airfryer LOOKED nice but I followed the instructions and fried some chicken and my entire apartment was filled with smoke and my smoke detectors were going crazy and I never add ANY oil. Horrible I returned it the next day.

Great Air Fryer!

This is my second air fryer and as much as I like the first one, this one takes care of my one and only complaint about the first one. The first one (also a Philips) works flawlessly every time. And so far so has this new model. You can really think outside of the box with an air fryer. I think everyone just thinks about doing fries, onion rings and so forth in one. In reality, there really isn't anything you can't cook in one. However, what hindered the original was size. This new XXL version takes care of that. With the original, you were really limited to making one or two person portion sizes. This new XXL allows for entire family cooking at one time. Also, as I mentioned there really isn't anything you can't cook. Although true of both this and the original, the larger capacity really helps in using it for more items. Combine all of this with ease of use, easy to clean, and just the fact that it is a healthier way of cooking makes this a no brainer to get.

I needed a big air fryer for my growing family, but this is ridiculous in a good way. It cooks whole meals while extracting fat like a George Foreman. Cleaning is a breeze and the quality if the food is much healthier. Awesome!

This thing cooks likes a champ. Cooked the best chicken wings I've ever had. But it smokes like a train even with hardly anything in it. Unsure if mine is a fluke or not, but I will be contacting philips about the issue. Real bummer too because it cooks really well

When I received my air fryer, my wife and I had just begun a new diet that really doesn't allow for fried foods. We cooked chicken in it, though, and it turned out to be very good.
Cleanup is very easy and the recipes included in the box look very tasty and simple to make. It is really nice to be able to walk away from food while it is cooking and know that the burners will turn themselves off after the designated time.

I've had my air fryer for about 2 weeks now and used it a couple of times. It's simple to use, easy to clean up, and way less greasy than deep or pan frying the things I've tried to make. Even though I have the XXL family size version, I find it very convenient to cook smaller portions for 1 to 2 people as well as for larger families or groups. Definitely my new favorite kitchen appliance!

Overall the Philips air fryer works well. It can handle a number of tasks (frying, baking, etc) though I use it primarily for frying. The grease collection pan does a great job of catching any grease that falls from the food making it healthier to eat. Cleanup is simple as most of the parts are dishwasher safe. The unit is quite large so takes up a lot of counter space, but isn't too heavy to move around. The fryer doesn't produce as delicious of food as traditional frying (what can really compete?), but does a good job air frying, producing healthier, less greasy food.

Not Kidding About the XXL

The Philips XXL Air Fryer is my first entrance into the world or air frying. First and foremost, it's big. It is hard to find a place for it in my kitchen big. For its size you would think you could do some serious frying, but the actual drawer area is about half of the volume of the total fryer.
My oldest son immediately wanted to try fried pickles with it. Well, the included cookbook didn't have that offering so I dug up a recipe online to give it a shot. Took and sliced up whole pickle spares and threw the slices into the internet sourced batter. Made sure to pick each spare up and drain as much excess batter off before dropping into the fryer. Ran the air fryer for about 10 minutes on high temp and pulled the drawer open to check their status. Nope still looking a little soggy so I let them go another few minutes. Popped the drawer open again and bingo... fried pickles. I let them cool off a bit and let my son have the honor of trying them out. Let's just say I got the seal of approval from my oldest.
Now for the fun part.... cleaning it up. I saw another review stating it was tough to clean and I would beg to differ. I rinsed each part off and threw it in my dishwasher. Cleaned up like a champ and really wasn't the nightmare I was expecting. Granted this was based on the fried pickle test. Sugar based ingredients may not play so nice.
I think the unit could benefit from digital controls. Not that the analog dials didn't server their purpose it would just allow for a bit more precision. I also found the power cord to be a tad short in my kitchen and ended up using it in a spot I wouldn't generally do that kind of cooking. Last, but not least, it's fairly loud. Now as I stated before I don't have any other air fryer experience to reference, but you definitely will not be cooking a stealth meal.
Overall, I like it and will try to use it more often. I think it has some real versatility, but I didn't have time for anything other than fried pickles. Let's just say it aced that test. If you got the space and don't mind the noise it is an easy recommendation over a conventional fryer any day of the week.

If you do not have a Philips air fryer go get one now. The Philips air fryer is a must own appliance. French fries, chicken nuggets, fish sticks anything you would put in a deep fryer put in the air fryer and it is better just without the grease. I love my air fryer! The only complaint is sometimes temperature and time you cook items is a guess.

Is really easy to use. Makes great tasting fried food with little to no oil depending on what you are making. I can go on and on about what you can do with this. The only reason I gave it four stars is the size. I ordered it online and was surprised at how big it is. Fed EX actually scheduled a freight delivery. It does not fit under my kitchen cabinets but will fit under a large cabinet like the sink. I realize if they made it smaller it would limit the types and quantity of food you can make but it is large.
