Works good on most DVDs but won't work on others. I have purchased a new player [different brand]. Hope it does better.

Don't bother if you own a Sony TV. Philips Blu-Ray player had issues when setting up to the Sony TV & sound box device. Wouldn't display video most of the time and messed up settings on my TV as well. It was frustrating to deal with.

Ordered from Web site and picked up at store a couple weeks ago. Tested on my 6 month old LG 4K HDR TV and my old Onkyo AVR. Used audio only HDMI port for audio until I get my new 4K compatible AVR installed, hopefully this weekend. Player setup was easy and first night connected to my wired network, updated firmware and streamed a 4K video clip from You Tube. Worked well, but audio was lacking, I think that was a YouTube issue. Seems the CREED disc mentioned in other reviews, was a temporary perk, was not included in the box. I did a chat with Philips support and they claim my model did not include a disc, although the Best Buy invoice seemed to indicate it in the model#. I will take that up with Best Buy next time I am in the store. A couple nights later, I obtained and played a MAGNIFICENT 7 4K disk, and it was OUTSTANDING, There is an cannon shot near the beginning of the movie, about knocked me out of my chair. Gonna pick up a set of ATMOS speakers soon, and I'm sure they will compliment the performance of this player. I am overall impressed by the video and audio quality so far. Some small complaints - missing disc, Small remote with no illumination. Will have to leave a light on in order to see the buttons until I get my Harmony programmed. No ability to add streaming apps, however, I have a smart TV and Roku 4, so really no need to stream thru the Philips. Overall, I'm a happy camper!

    Excellent entry level player

Picked up my new Philips 4k player on 9/18/16. I've had the Samsung 4k player and the new xbox one s and returned both of them. Samsung had a cheap look and feel and the curve design never caught on with me. Xbox one s doesnt bitstream hi-res audio or play 3d. These reviews always come down to whats important to the individual. You can nick pick any device because most entry level technology doesn't everything we want. One will have this but not this. Understanding this will help people with so many critical reviews. This Philips player plays 4k material flawlesly for me. For one thing people have to understand terminology like HDR, HDMI 2.0. HDCP 2.2, and contrast to name a few. For 4k HDR to work to its fullest you have to have all the equipment that will allow you to view it as its supposed to be. I have Sony xbr65x850c, has 4 HDCP 2.2 ports that's needed. Onkyo TRN646 reciever that passes and upscales 4k. The picture looks fantastic. Only 2 network apps youtube and netflix. No problem, my tv has tons of them. I use my universal harmony remote. Plays cds, have usb port in back. Read manual to see compatable formats. My movie format is MP4 and music is MP3. Plays and sound great thru my surround system. For people who want and expect everything in a 300 dollar player is not being realistic. Spend 400 more dollars on the panasonic 4k player or Oppo when they come out with theirs and you will probably get everything you want in one player.

I was a little concerned with buying a new 4KUHD player by Philips at the low price I got it for. It has performed well for me with no issues. Time to load up disc is reasonable as well as this was a problem with Blu-ray players when they first came out. Exceptional picture quality especially with HDR 4K discs with my Samsung 4K TV. It takes up little space and does not run hot. I have been an audio and video enthusiast for 40 years and would recommend it to anyone.

Purchased this device yesterday after reading many reviews on it and the Samsung and Sony. The Philips was rated almost as high as the Samsung and was cheaper. Best Buy staff were very helpful and when he brought out the box he said it came with a Bonus DVD which was the very movie I was going to buy to try the unit out. Even more Savings!!! Had to make a change to the sound settings on my tv to get the audio to play through the surround sound system. The picture quality was phenomenal. I now see the big hype about 4K content. Am very pleased with the ease of use. Simple and straightforward. No regrets.

Well I want to love this player, but I just really like it. My main beef with this player is that it only has two streaming apps: YouTube and Netflix. Maybe there will be more later in an update, but as for now I'd like to have Vudu and Hulu and Amazon streaming capabilities. But other than that, I don't have any major complaints, especially at this price point. With that said, I would recommend this player.

this player is simple and has played everything we have tossed at it with out issue loads fast and quiet and even a free 4k movie and HDMI cable lack of apps not an issue for us our TV has plenty of those we have this pared with a LG658500 and no issues set up was easy, online manual is full of everything you need to know and more it was made to play movies in all formats and it does that very well...we like it.

Phillips 4K player vs the Samsung 4K player

I owned the Samsung player for 3 months and have five 4k discs. Although I feel the Samsung reproduced HDR color better, I replaced it with the Phillips simply because it would not play certain 4K discs (Pacific Rim which has reference quality HDR, and sometimes Crouching Tiger). Also the Samsung seemed cheap and chintzy and it did make a lot of noise, which other reviews of it have stated. The Phillips has better build quality and it played all of my discs fine with no problems. I feel the Phillips has better 4K clarity and better 3D quality than the Samsung, but the Samsung had better HDR quality. But you can't beat the Phillips for the price.

Great for its size but lacks many features....

I thought I would give this 4K UHD Bluray player a shot. After opening the item up when I got home I looked at what outputs are on the back. I noticed what was odd was a HDMi port that only supports sound and no picture which did not make sense and with that said, it did not have a Digital Optical Output which everyone knows is the best when transmitting Audio. Why? Oh why? Would you do this Philips? No wonder I never owned Philips ever. Cause the lack of engineering behind its products are CRAZY! Other then that. I wish it supported more Audio Formats. The size could be slim down a lot. I thought it would be portable the size of a discman but by looking at the box I knew it would be a bit bulky and I stand corrected. I wish it was portable enough to take with you on the go and carry on hand. Has a nice finish. Nice color. Nice feel. Remote looks nice but could be smaller. Philips needs to rethink this and go back to the drawing board. Almost doesn't count. Sorry Philips but I will be returning this item when I get time.
