This review is for the refurbished version. I try to get the refurbs as much as possible, they are usually cheaper and not a whole lot different from a brand new unit. The ones I got from Best Buy was missing the original box but everything was else was there. Getting the thing to work was simple, must have took less than 5 minutes. Good thing it came with the hub, I didn't realize the light strip needed it to connect the network. And the hub needs a wired connection to the network, would have been better if it was wireless. One of the routers was close by so it wasn't a big deal. Once the hub was connected and the light strip powered, the app took less 30 seconds to find light strip and I was able to set everything up in less than 5 minutes! Even though this was a refurbished unit, all the LEDs worked, the adhesive was a little weak though but I have it mounted above a shelf so it wasn't a huge problem. It's much brighter than I imagined. In my opinion, it looks better bouncing off a wall so the light is more diffused than looking at it directly. Has a softer look and it looks like the wall is glowing. I'm really glad I got this kit, actually bought two of these refurbed kits.

Really cool and easy to set up. I used it on the back of the TV in our loft. The app and everything was easy to set up and get going. I especially like the Spotify sync which allows adjusts the lights to music. That or just setting a color and playing YouTube videos or putting on a football game is cool. There are others that are cheaper but I trust the longevity will be better with Philips. The only thing I ran into was the sticky backing on the rope lighting peeled off of the rope light. So I just ended up using it as regular tape. I’m not a delicate person so it could’ve easily been my fault, but just something to point out.

We bought this kit since we were getting close to needing a Bridge in our home being at around 8-10 lights. It was almost the same price as the bridge alone so the LED strip was a nice addition! The strip in installed on the back of my desk and gives off a nice ambiance in my room and ties together my PC and theme well! The adhesive is strong and has not faltered at all.

It can be little hard to stick them because of the thickness of led but it is very bright and looks good.

Have a house full of Philips hue bulbs and strips. Bought these to use as undercabinet lighting for my Kitchen Remodel. Looking forward to the millions of colors and the ability to control with google hub.

Works as intended, but seems quite sensitive. Less than 1 year after purchase a section is discolored even though its laid completely flat with no bends.

Pretty sweet deal, defiantly worth it for some cheap Philips smart bulbs for your system

The P-H Lightstrip & Hub Starter Kit got introduced initiated my march to creating a "smart home", all within the past month. I am fully satisfied. Philips-Hue, like Apple, provide little written instruction on the setup and use of their products. Instead, buyers are expected to follow a set of not-so-understandable drawings. I went to the P-H website and found some useful FAQs. But for real beginners (like myself), I watched a series of YouTube videos on the installation of Philips-Hue products. I recommend them. After easily downloading the P-H App onto my iPhone, I plugged the Hue Bridge into the back of my router with an included HDMI cord, and into an electrical socket with a second cord. Once on, the Hub set itself up, and linked to the P-H App on my iPhone. I also accessed the Apple Home Kit App (already on my phone) to link the Hub. While I use the P-H App most of the time, the Home Kit App allows you to create Rooms, which seems more intuitive. The Home Kit App also makes it a breeze to start using Siri voice commands to manipulate the P-H bulbs and accessories. I decided to attach the 2 meter light strip under my bed. On my first attempt I did this by relying on the 3M tape attached to the back of the light strip. It gradually loosened itself onto the floor after a few days. The tape is not very strong. So I watched more YouTube videos for ideas. I ended up buying a 3/4" wide x 96" long flat aluminum bar at a hardware store along with several types of strong Velcro. On one side of the bar I attached a long strip of Velcro (with a sticky back). Then I attached a long strip of the Velcro mate along the entire back of the light strip (yes, remove the white 3M covering from the back of the light strip so that all the sticky tape is revealed -- placing the sticky side of the Velcro along the sticky side of the light strip should make a very permanent bond). After pulling my mattress off the bed, I slid the aluminum bar underneath. Every bed frame is different. My goal was to place the bar underneath the frame so that it was flat, and so that it would be level with the floor while touching several places under the frame. After centering it near where I wanted, I placed the sticky side of Velcro to the underside of the bar on the areas that would touch the bed frame. I had measured it out ahead of time, knowing that the bar would touch a few inches on both the right and left, plus a few inches in the middle. The industrial strength Velcro (black packaging) that I placed under the bed frame and under the bar is enough to keep it in place without sagging. Just to be extra safe, I also bought a roll of Velcro "Cut-to-Length Bundling Straps". I used about a foot of that to wrap underneath the light bar, up and around the center bar of my bed Frame. It feels very secure. If I ever want to move the light strip, it will be easy to just peel the Velcro apart (the sticky Velcro attached to the underside of my bed frame will be pretty permanent -- but I don't care -- it is underneath and can't be seen). I see lots of light strips in my future, and now that I understand my attachment options, they will be installed more quickly than this first try. One can also find aluminum and plastic "channels" into which you can thread a light strip. The semi-clear plastic would run along the lit side of the light strip. This would diffuse the light enough to reduce the "colored dot" effect. I may use them in more visible locations -- again using velcro along the aluminum back. Bottom line -- great product. I did all of this alone with the help of YouTube "how-to" videos. Future installations will be a lot faster!

I like the light strip and it has a wide variety of available colors. It is bright, however my issue lies with the quality. I have it on the back of my metal bed and it is held on by the provided sticky side. It ends up falling off after a few months and sometimes a part of the strip doesn’t work.

Love the hue lights, I had the first version hub and bulbs but the older hub wasn’t working with Alexa anymore. I was able to get this kit with the newer hub to control and added more bulbs also worked with my older bulbs that are over 9 years old and still working perfect after being used on auto schedules everyday.

Best lights, slowly replaced all house lights with Hue ecosystem so I can change them all from my phone. Recommend the bridge once you get more than 6, makes syncing with all of them seamless

Easy to use setup and use with HomeKit, this LED lightstrip turns any space from ordinary to extraordinary. We have a couple of them in different places throughout the house and have them all setup through Apple HomeKit to function automatically based on several different triggers. The colors are bright and deep, and the strip itself is very easy to work with and install. Hue products tend to be on the higher end of price, but are definitely worth it.

The Phillips Hue Lightstrip Starter Kit is easy to set up and has some awesome features. I have light strips set up behind my living room TV as well as my gaming desk. Having the ability to choose from several ambiance presets, to customizing your own is quite nice. I also like the ability to link your Spotify music to the app and have the lights blink to the beat of your music!

I love the Philips Hue lights and the Lightstrip plus is great. This box also includes the hue hub to get you started. Using the hub, rather than Bluetooth or just wifi, means your lights aren’t using up your wifi bandwidth inside your home. These set up and install easily. I recommend plugging them in and syncing them to your hub before mounting them. Enjoy!

If you're looking for something a little more rugged - for permanent install - look no further. Yeah they're a little pricey but philips has done their homework in making this kit. It's can connect to your network at home and be controlled from your iPhone/android and multitude of other ways. This is ambient lighting for grown-ups...

These are sweet lights. We replaced the old LED's that came with our house we recently bought, and these truly make a difference. Really easy to use and set up, and look legit. I'm still trying to figure out any advanced settings, hoping it can cycle colors or display multiple colors at once.
