These are some of the most responsive motion sensors I’ve used. Quick to fire, nice options for sensitivity and light level, and super small. Working really well with HomeKit, as they show up with motion, temperature, and light level. Helpful in creating some pretty powerful automations in third party HomeKit apps.

It works great with my Hue light setup. I would recommend getting a third party app because the official Hue app is quite limited for setting up these sensors. For iOS, I recommend iConnectHue.

Purchased this for my front entrance. Works great. Even turns on if a car passed the house close enough to the curb. ;)

The Hue Motion Sensor takes a hands-off approach to smart lighting, triggering scenes across any of Philips’ bulbs, lamps, or luminaires when you walk past, either for convenience, security, or both. The hardware itself is a tiny white box with a domed motion sensor on the front. Above it is an ambient light sensor, while below there’s a status LED. Since it has a flat base you can use the Motion Sensor free-standing, but Philips also includes a small wall mount that screws into the wall, and then the Motion Sensor magnetically attaches; the back is curved so that you can angle it in different directions. Unfortunately, it’s the mount, not the sensor which is magnetic, so you can’t just stick it to a refrigerator door or some other metal surface.
At $39.99, Philips’ sensor addresses one of the more common requests from Hue users, and it does so in a way that is flexible and heavily customizable.

This device is extremely handy and easy to setup in the Hue app. Walk into a room and your lights pop on. Very convenient and futuristic. I hung some hue lights up in my closet and used this motion sensor to activate those lights when I open my closet door. Really pleased with the results. Highly recommend this product to others.

Does What it Needs To

This little device does just what it needs to. Nothing fancy, but a useful addition to the Hue system. I've set ours up to turn on the lights in the stairway, which we only use when use when actually walking up or down the stairs. The lights go on, then when our travels are done the lights dim and turnoff after a minute (these settings are all customizable).
Obviously, you need some Hue lights and a bridge. A little pricey for what it does. But, worthwhile...

Software for the sensor is limited. Not color options and only a night and day option. Nothing else. The Sensor itself works fine with adjustments for motion and light sensitivity.

The best features of a motion sensor are speed and reliability, and Hue nails both.
I’ve found that this is a great product when used with Hue’s own hub and software, but since my smart home setup is heavily customized, I quickly switched to running my Hue sensors with Node-Red and the HueMagic GitHub plug-in project. Though I had to write custom Node.is code, I now use these to add motion sensors functionality to my LIFX lights. That maneuver isn’t for less technical people, but if you can handle the code, the Hue motion sensors are wonderfully reliable.
Want a middle ground? These also work great with Apple HomeKit, which allows for custom automations with Apple Shortcuts, which is definitely more accessible than pure code.

This is a must have to your hue smart lighting system. Not only does it sense motion and turn the lights on, but it can be set to go dim for night lighting and brighter during the daytime hours. So nice to have a light come on with motion. Highly recommend this product!

Quick fix for badly placed lightswitches

My new house has a couple of stupidly placed light switches, so I picked a couple sensors up instead of shelling out a bunch of money to have things rewired. I no longer need to walk up a dark flight of stairs to get to the light switch or fumble with switches when I get home. What I like best is you can set up what hours you want the lights to turn on when the sensor senses movement and can even choose how bright you would like them.

I set this up with my various Hue bulbs/light strips in my kitchen and home office. I have my Alexa linked to Hue as well. When I walk into these rooms, the light automatically turns on without me having to tell Alexa to turn on the lights. Would highly recommend.
