Customers value the Hue Play Starter Kit's brightness, ease of use, and ability to create ambiance. Many appreciate the straightforward setup and compatibility with other Hue products, although some find the app could be improved. A common concern is the relatively high price point. While some users mention the size of the lights, the overall feedback highlights the positive impact on lighting and entertainment experiences.

Love these lights. Easy to setup, and pairs easily with Alexa. Great control through the app. Considering the sync, but still cool without it.

These lights are awesome, setup is easy and it perfectly completes the lights I already have in my rooms. I liked them so I bought two of these.

This is a nice little addition to my overall Hue Lighting. As always it is of excellent quality and was beyond easy to set up and use. Between me and my wife we love to use the scene functions on the App and choose between cities and the more lights you have the better replication it does. We usually use the Tokyo scene for late ramen dinner and I must say it does capture the lights of the city very well. Brings back memories from our Travels. Currently we have 14 Hue lights through out the Living room and kitchen and plan to add more.

Not perfect, but I really enjoy it. I also got the HDMI box and have existing Hue Lights which all change colors while watching TV. Can at times become a little distracting, especially when a scene changes from dark to bright... All the lights go on and it feels like daylight in the room. Maybe this is the desired effect, but some fiddling with the adjustments and I am sure you will find your ideal settings. I am adding another set of these to my TV to get a broader color scheme in the room. One on the top section of the TV and one on the bottom.

I installed these on a dual monitor setup in my home office for gaming. Mostly as a trial run to see if I would like to install them on the TV. They work great. Really easy to setup (I already use Hue bulbs in my house). Gaming with these is pretty fun. The music feature is decent.
I think this works best for single-monitor applications. The effect only registers one monitor for colors, so it looks a little weird.
I’d love to get these for my TV, but unfortunately you need an additional HDMI pass through from Phillips that runs you another $200. Which is a shame. You can get around that if you use a HTPC but that doesn’t apply to many folks.

Ultimate Bundle

The Hue play starter kit is the ultimate bundle for anyone looking to add accent lighting or video sync lighting for the their movies or games. Bright with millions of color options packed into a really small flexible foot print that can be mounted horizontally or vertically on a stand or stuck to the back of a TV. This kit was only $100 with a $50 BB gift card for2 Hue lights and a hub. I was able to replace my 2 white Hue bloom lights that were behind my TV with these and they look fantastic. I’m very happy with this purchase.

I like using this most with environment-heavy single player games and music videos. For anything else like web browsing or competitive gaming it gets pretty annoying, which makes sense as it’s not really made for that. I have this set up with a PC and a 27 inch monitor. The lights are nice and bright for that size but they’d probably be too dim for a screen larger than 43 inches or so. I haven’t tried them on a large screen myself. You’ll really enjoy these, they’re the perfect introduction to Hue lights in my opinion.

These are pretty pricey for what they are: accent lights. I use them synced to behind my monitor to reduce eyestrain. (and look neat)
Setup is quick/simple, lights respond quickly, etc.
Hue is typically the more expensive option, and often by a large margin, but I've never had a problem with them. I've been using Hue lights since they first launched, and I have had other lights here/there from other brands, but there's usually something lacking. If nothing else, Hue integrates well and their app is clean & effective.

Enjoy the amount of color and brightness these have compared to led strips. A little on the pricier side but to me very worth it. Works seamlessly with Google Assistant.

Gives the TV watching experience an edge. Best paired with a Hue Sync Box, but is fun without it too. Its fun to select the dominate color scheme for a movie to add some ambiance. For instance, I watched Die Hard (set my play bars to Red & Green, because its a Christmas movie, obviously). Watch my favorite sports team, and have their colors splashed on the wall. I set blue for Avatar. Green for the Lion King. Green for Amelie. These are a nice add to your home theater.

LOVE these lights so much! I wish they weren't so expensive, because I would buy so many more. I'm waiting for them to go on sale and then I'll be buying at least another 2 sets of 3 for other spots around the house. You can sync them with your monitor so they react to the colors on the screen and match them in behind the monitor and change as the colors change on the monitor. Incredible!
I can't say enough good things about the lights!

I had no idea what I was buying in to...This was my first Philips Hue product, I bought it on holiday sale figuring I could use some accent lighting in my entertainment area. These bars are incredible with the wide array of colors and brightness that I ended up using them as back lighting for my TV. I like them so much I ended up purchasing a second set to place one in my room to mimic sunrise as my room sits on the west end of my building therefore it does not receive much light at all in the mornings. Eventually I placed all 4 bars on the back of my Samsung Q90 75 inch and purchased a Hue Sync Box... My living room is nothing short of amazing especially when playing on the Xbox, I have received several compliments. The bars themselves are light, easy to mount, easy to set up, and pack a lot of creative ways to enhance any room. As mentioned, because of these bars I have bought into the whole product line up and have expanded to strips, lightbulbs, and other accessories. I have several procedures set up so now my place comes alive. And no my place does not look like a club, because of the wide array of options you can set different scenes/modes/etc for exactly what you're looking for.
PROS
+Easy Setup/Install
+Wide array of colors and brightness
+Comes with Hub so you don't congest your Wifi
+Several use cases -anywhere. Bedroom, Computer, TV
CONS
-Beware of price, choose which lights you wish to invest in wisely
-Slightly warm to touch
-Could use additional 3M adhesive circles, I accidently placed one on the wrong base attachment
-Even lighting behind the TV can take several of these bars versus a lightstrip with extensions (Beware that the lightstrip can only do one color at a time thus the reason I chose these over the lightstrip).

My vision for use of this product did not come to fruition...and I guess I blame myself for not researching - so, please read on if you want to use this on your TV!
I wanted to use this on my TV, but you need a $200+ device to act as a hub for your external devices...and this will not work/sync with SmartTV built-in apps. So - I ended up using it on my computer...not really a need, but since it didn't work on the TV I tried it out...and it is cool! Pretty seamless...and once you download the app (PC/Mac) it is automatic.

Bought these thinking I was going to use them to put behind my TV. I put them on the stand below my tv, and they are amazing!! I cant wait for the gradient light strip to be back in stock so that I can finish my tv set up. I have several other manufacturers of LED RGB lights in my house, and the Hue ones (although extremely expensive) do have the best color saturation and brightness of any that I have.

Great Movie Experience Addition

Got 2 of these units, love the lighting effect and it adds to the movie watching experience. I did run into an issue, where the lights wouldn't hook up to my existing hue bridge and I had to set them up on the hue bridge that it came with. Once I hooked it up to that bridge, I just removed it off the bridge, then it would connect to my existing hue bridge. Kind of odd, had to do that twice, but other than that small hickup, setup was very easy.
