Like pretty much all Hue products, the Tap Remote Switch is pricey. But it offers the convenience of not grabbing for your phone every time you want to change your lighting settings. I didn't mount it to a surface using the included peel and stick feature, choosing instead to use it as a switch than can be moved to wherever in the room it's needed. I wish it was cheaper but it was worth it for me.

Easy setup. You really have to press the buttons until it clicks which can be annoying but no batteries are needed so its a fair trade-off.

I was looking for a way to turn on our Philips hue Lux lights when walking in the front door. The other Philips switch would have meant three different switches for each of the nearby rooms. With the Tap, I was able to program the big button to turn on all lights and the other three scenes for the entryway and the adjacent room lights. The only problem with this device is I couldn't figure out how to make the scenes turn off. The option is either turn them on or turn them off. Still, I thought it was a good buy at the reduced price.

My favorite part is that you do not have to change batteries and it's very easy to program using the hue app. Is an essential element of having Hue in your home.

I've used Philips Hue products in my smart home for over 6 months, and I have nothing negative to say. I use Apple HomeKit with them, and it works fine. Excellent product. PROS: The switch sticks to the wall with double sided tape, so it can be moved as needed (no permanent installation), and it can be placed wherever you'd like. The switch can be installed in under 1 minute with no tools. The switch doesn't use electricity and has no batteries, so you don't need to worry about running to the store. It feels like a solid construction (it's in my living room, so I use it multiple times a day, and my kids have not broken it). Also, the switch itself easily detaches from the base, so it can be used as a remote control. It pairs easily with the Hue Bridge. It's a perfect option if you just want access to a few frequently-used scenes, and need on/off action only (no brightness adjustment or dimming from switch, though always adjustable via smart phone app). CONS: They are a bit pricey. In terms of function or limitations of use, there are no cons. A less expensive option is the Philips Hue 'Wireless Dimmer Switch w/ Remote'; it's about $20 cheaper and available at Best Buy).

It took a lot of tries to get this configured, and I still have no idea why. A few weeks later, a couple of the lights in our system stopped responding to the hub (and thus to the Tap) completely; that is probably not the Tap's fault but it does limit the usefulness. In general, we would not recommend Hue because it is very unreliable. However, if you have a Hue system, the Tap is a really nice addition.

If you use a Hue system, I can't recommend this enough. I know they cost a decent bit, but they are worth it. Although they lack the detailed features of the many Hue apps, the simple convenience of having 4 favorite scenes stored on the control cannot be overstated. I have two: One for the living room lights and one for my bedroom. At the touch of a button, I can choose full lights in warm or cool temperatures, or a reading-lamp-only option, and I can place the switch by the bed to turn on one or all of the lights easily with one button-press.

Between 4 and 5 stars. It was a little buggy at first when I set it up. But now that it's setup it is extremely convenient. Just really nice to have some extra buttons to hit as opposed to opening my app every time. Especially if you'd want to move it room to room for whatever reason. Leave it by the door when you come home and then move it to the other room before you go to bed. I know you can set timers but it's just nice having a physical switch again.

    Near-Essential Add-On To Philips Hue

The basic Hue system (which was recently updated to 2.0) is a great entry into automated lighting by the use of apps, however there are times when you just want to hit a switch to make that happen. I've mounted the switch near my main door so that the first thing I do when I leave home or arrive home does not involve me taking out my phone to switch the lights on or off. Near-essential if you own a Philips Hue system.

The switch is very nice to have to be able to turn on lights to certain colors/brightness without having to get your phone/tablet. However, the switch sometimes has issues where it doesn't register me hitting one of the buttons. It's usually fine on a second push, but there has been a couple of times when I had to reset it through the app.

Enable your family and friends to play along with your connectedness but not allowing them to switch off your connected lights. Put this switch next to your light switches and they will use them. Even the three year old knows to use the new cool switch and leave the old ones alone. Solved a lot of frustration with lights not addressable because someone switched them off instead of using the app.

The switch is a nice alternative to have instead of always needing to pull out your phone for the lights. However you need to make sure you press the switch in pretty hard to make sure it works. Also, only having 3 options for color settings at a price of $60 is a bit high.. If you can get this for $30 or less, it's probably worth it

Works; needs Hue Labs to maximize functionality

For those of you looking to control different zones or rooms, a login to the Philips Hue Labs site is required. I wanted this to control different rooms with each of the buttons, and found that the native application (iOS) would not do it. However, Philips does offer that functionality in their Labs website. Once I got out there and linked everything up, the device worked very well. The price is in-line with the rest of the Hue ecosystem, which is a little steep in my opinion for what you get, but once it's set up it works flawlessly.

This unit is small and so easy to use. From the time I took it out of the box until I had it set up with my lights was less than 2 minutes. This unit is so great and I love the fact that it doesn't require batteries that it works off of some sort of magic. As soon as I get the rest of my best buy points I'm going to buy another one of these for my living room.

The Hue Tap is extremely easy to set up and use, and it works exactly as it should. Is the Hue Tap necessary in your home? Certainly not. But if you're buying Hue lights that probably doesn't matter to you anyway. The Hue Tap is a perfect complement to Hue lights and I'm glad I bought it.
