Lack of cheap Cool White options

This is my first purchase for smart home accessories that will work with HomeKit (since we’re pretty deep into the Apple ecosystem). Upon reading from community forums, a common trend is that Philips Hue is expensive but the most reliable option for smart lights, so I decided to give it a go. Setup was easy enough. Plug the lights, turn on the switch, connect the hub to the router (in my case, plugged it in a dumb switch), download the app and pair. Integrating it with HomeKit is easy as well, just scan the HomeKit icon in the packaging and you’ll be able to control lights with Siri. The bulbs respond well too, may it be through the Home app, Siri command or the Philips Hue app. Little to no lag. Perfect when you’re doing something or when I’m stuck with baby. Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, there’s no option to get Cool White Lights unless you go to the more expensive version, which is the White Ambiance or the multi-color option, which is double and quadruple the price respectively. The only option for the single color dimmable light is Soft White, which is yellow. And the only way you’ll know it’s Soft White is by zooming in on the picture of the box. I purchased this on clearance anyway, and my intent is to get the hub and the bulbs as a bonus. I don’t see any difference between the regular Hue White Starter Kit and the one for California Residents.

You cannot go wrong with these Philips Hue lights; they're beyond solid with no hiccups and are easy to use. Got this set for my dad's house; entry way and one family room lamp. I have several lights in my own house. The app works really well, good UI and is very intuitive. These did not work on their dining room dimmer controlled lights (blinking when powered on); yours may be different. The bridge has a power cord and the ethernet cord; easy. Set up on the app for the bridge and bulbs was easy. It works perfectly with their Alexa (turn off/on, turn on 20%, etc.). Industry standard, not cheap, solid build and excellent quality. You'll be glad you didn't get the cheapy lights off amazon.

This was my 1st experience with smart lights and I liked them so much that I purchased another 10 bulbs. These are just plain white bulbs no color or the ability to adjust the white level. However you can adjust the brightness level. I hooked them up 1st to Hue and then to Alexa so that I could control the lights through voice commands. The major issue that I ran into was Alexa kept losing connection to the Hue bridge. After having Geek Squad out twice I found invaluable advise on a tech forum. The Alexa Show (version 2) has a built-in bridge so after purchasing one of those I have not had any issues and have added an lot more lights to the system.

All the hue lights are very reliable. That’s one area that’s really important to me. Many lights disconnect from the WiFi and these are great! The light is bright and easy to setup

I bought a starter kit for myself & loved them so much that I decided to buy it for my daughter. She loves them too and has purchased more lights to go with it!

Can turn on your lights when you are away from home and it’s getting dark. Only issue is that it requires a bridge to use, but it does work well.

I’m a big fan of smart tech. Hue makes the best stuff for lighting IMO. The main gripe I have is hue could use a new system moving forward that doesn’t need a bridge for syncing bulbs (prob coming later this year or early 2022). Great gift idea for someone that has use for smart bulbs and is wanting to break into the smart home tech.

I got this to turn the lights on for my dog. With the hub and simple syncing on the HUE app I am able to turn on the lights remotely from my phone. Hopefully the dog appreciates it. reading the manual it states that the bulbs should not go into recessed lighting but I have many lamps so I just put the bulbs in the lamps.

Purchased these for my older mother so she can turn on lights around the house before walking around. Also to be able to turn them off after her hahaha. Super easy install and work flawlessly.
