However, some customers found the installation instructions challenging and reported difficulty replacing the light bulb. Concerns were also raised regarding the price point and the lack of color options. I have to say, I kept looking for simple design fixtures for my home, for years I had outdated generic ceiling lights everyone had in their home till I came across these. OMG these are perfect specially since I already had other Hue lights in the home, everyone loves them and they work with no issues. Just have to say, make sure you have someone helping you to install them or plenty of slack on the ceiling cables, since the ones attached to them are quite short. Other than that I couldn't be happier.

Intelligently Beautiful Flushmount Fixture

My experience with Philips Hue lights are usually - "Why didn't I do this sooner?!"
We have several Hue lights in our house and we've gradually been updating fixtures and elements in our house to make it more updated. In our front of our house where my office is, we had an ugly builder-grade light that used 1 regular bulb. When we were looking at fixtures to replace it, I thought about Hue since you can program them for different scenes.
This fixture is beautiful, simple and clean in it's design. Installing was a pain though - that's why the 4 star rating. I hate installing lighting in general, but the Hue flushmount light required my wife's help to hold the fixture steady so I could connect the wires. The installation guide is basic and simple, but I could see someone who doesn't do fixture upgrades in their house getting stumped and asking for help or installation.
The other reason for this 4 star review is the fact that it didn't come with any wire connectors. The screw taps you use to connect the wires in your house to fixtures. Even basic $20 fixtures come with those - so I had to go to Lowes and get one since this fixture requires 2 ground wires be connected to the fixture as well instead of the ground wire connecting to the mounting fixture. Once we got it installed, adding it to my existing Hue setup was a breeze. We started playing around with the different lighting scenes.
There's a variety of intensity and temperature settings from bright, cool light to a dim warm light. We settled on Concentration at 50% - and we realized how much more yellow all the other lights in our house were. So I'm not sure if my wife will let me keep that setting on. She's already asked me to program other scenes so that it'll update based on time of day.
I love this thing and I wouldn't mind replacing other flushmount / semi-flushmounts with ones like this... but I might have someone install them for me since I had enough fun with the first installation.

Great smart light for your home

It goes without saying that you shouldn't get this light unless you want to go the smart home route. To use this light, and any other Hue light, you'll need a bridge in order to connect it to your wifi. Then, you'll need either the free app or some home speaker like Alexa, Google Home, etc., to utilize this to its full potential. And since you'll probably want more than one light to use, be prepared to fork out some money for the "full set" as it were.
That said, very nice light and offers bright illumination for just about any room. Installation of the light is pretty standard however the one thing you'll want to pay attention to is the shade. It's essentially in three pieces and might take a bit of time to line up once you've installed the mounting bracket. You'll also probably want to use some small sized wire nuts as there isn't a whole lot of room between the bracket and ceiling.
But, once installed it's a very bright and modern looking light. Looking forward to getting a few more lights and then being able to light up my place remotely or whenever I need to .

Great for Kitchens and Home Offices

I've been looking for a paradoxical solution for my apartment kitchen lighting. I wanted something both non-descript AND attractive, with great quality light output. Of course I have that awful flower-like 2-bulb fixture sold at hardware stores. It's ugly and produces terrible quality light for the kitchen.
The Phillips Hue "White Ambiance Being Flushmount" is a major upgrade. While it's not hardware store inexpensive, it rivals professional grade fixtures usually only offered through lighting designers. The fixture is very-low profile with two elegant brushed aluminum rings around a white plastic disk. Contemporary, but not extreme.
You connect this wirelessly to your Phillips Hue hub (you have one, right? Because you should!) and your home wiring and then the fun begins. It's part of a smart home system that allows you to control it via a wireless dimmer switch, your computer or your favorite smartphone or tablet.
Once set-up (super easy), you can dim from 0 to 100%, depending on your needs and ambient light level. Pump up the pleasant light for cooking or intense activities and crank them down for less intense activities or to set a mood/ambiance.
The light can be set via the Hue App to turn on or off and a pre-set intensity automatically. You can also group it with additional lights of the same design or other Hue products (I like the color changing LED strip for undercounter lighting!).
All in all, this is a functional product that's attractive and fun...and will save you some energy too.

Super Neat!

This light fits perfect in my place! It is neat because it gives the space a cool and spacious look and it’s neat because of the dimming features.
The hue app is awesome and it integrates easily with my Hue lightbulbs in the recessed lighting.
I can’t say I’ve found a flaw but there are so many reasons to get this light. Obviously it’s a compliment to the Hue set so don’t get this until you have the bridge.
The only difficult part was the instructions to install this left a lot of room for error. It needs a little more instruction because the depictions were a little rough to follow.
Love playing with the light and switching it on and off!

A great fixture with LOTS of available light. Controllable with a smart phone or Alexa. It is fully dimmable and is compatible with Smart things and Nest items. The only drawback is you need to have the Hue Bridge which is sold separately in order to use the smart features. However even when not using the smart features it is a Very Sharp Looking fixture with a flush mount that gives of LOTS of light.

This light is terrible. The installation is horrendous. There are no instructions, just a few pictures of the lights hardware. Also. it does NOT have color. There is NO color version of this light. This light is effectively worthless. My entire home is hue "colored" lighting. This light for the price is overpriced hue strip lighting disguised as a nice fixture. But again, you're paying far more than you should.

Good light, better if you have all the Hue parts

Overall, it's a good lamp with a lot of functions if you have the Hue setup. Installation is not hard if you have installed a ceiling light before. The instructions included with lamp are not that great. Read the back of the installation instructions to front to get a better idea on taking apart. On the top of the light there are three clear plastic panels. Mine were loose and not secure. You tuck them under some slots, but they can come out easily if the light is jostled in installation. Also, my light did not come with any of the screw cap type wire joiners.
With the light installed just turn it on, and leave it on. With the app the Hue bridge picked up the light with no issue and I assigned it to a room. I was able to use the four preset light settings and had the full range of white colors, warm to daylight to a bluish white. No problems. With the light always getting power, you get access to the full features of a web enable light. Turn on and off with the sun, setup routines, etc etc. If you have other Hue accessories, you can control the light, make it motion activated, or work in conjunction with other Hue or web enabled products. It’s pretty flexible. If you are only going to have power to the light all the time and use the app or another accessory to control the light it’s great.
However, people are used to switches. So, if you turn the light off for 3-5 seconds it resets to the default color. If the app is on it won’t change the color back automatically. You have to change the color to something besides the last set color, and then back to the desired color. So, to keep the light always on, realistically, I need to put a guard over the switch, or remove the light switch and just have it hot all the time, because no one going to remember to leave that particular light switch on, and guests won’t know. I haven’t been to any houses with always on ceiling lights. After a power outage, it’ll revert to the default color until you interact with it again. The light is fine in the default setting, a warm white and it’s bright enough.
If you are already into the Hue system, this seems like it would be a good item. If not, after you buy a Hue bridge and make sure the light is always on, you’re at $250 for a basic looking ceiling light. There are plenty similar looking warm white LED ceiling lights for $30-40 that work just fine with a switch, and come with wire joiners. Or, buy a web enable light switch if you just want on and off.
For an extra $150 dollars over a normal LED ceiling light, I would at least expect the light to remember the last color setting I set to it without the need for an app or buying another controller to put it back the way I want. The light works fine and does what it says though. It may take time for you and members of your house to change the way you think about using a light. In my house it was, “Why should I have to get my phone/tablet and select an app to turn the light on or off? The switch is right there on the wall.” In order to provide the same functionality of a switch I’d have to spend even more for a controller, or motion detector. If Phillips really wants people all in, they should include some information on best ways to make sure the light always has power in a convention switch setup, or include a basic physical controller of some sort. Who has their phone on them every single second?

Smart, Modern, Beautiful and a Price to Pay

First off, before purchasing this, make sure you already have a Philips Hue Bridge or are buying one. Without the bridge, this would be a waste of money because as that is a requirement to use all its features via an app or via Amazon Alexa, Google Home or Siri. I had to buy one right after I received it.
Installation was not overly complicated but instructions were awful. It took me over 45 minutes while other similar installations never took longer than 20 minutes. It may take even longer if you haven’t done this kind of install at least a few times. Once you passed that, there is not much to criticize as long as you keep in mind that this for ambience light and not for rooms you need well illuminated. Still, at 2500 lumens, it produces enough light for most occasions.
It has a good design and look pretty and modern. My Samsung Connect Home discovered it quickly and I was able control it with my voice with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Being able to tell it to use a certain ambience mode is just awesome.
Right now, smarthome systems are too expensive but that is expected with new trends and technologies. I tend not to comment on price but based on that I would hope this Philips Hue could produce more colors. Nonetheless, it looks cool light and does what it promises.

I purchased this to be the light above my kitchen sink. It's great that I have it on dimmed when not using it and still provides enough light to wash dishes etc. When cooking and doing other things, the brighter light is great. I use it with the Phillips switch.

First off, you must realize that you need to have the Phillips Hue Bridge to work this or any other Phillips smart home products. They sell just the bridge or a starter kit at Best Buy for any where from $50-70. That makes the $200 price tag of this very pretty light a little less attractive.
The instructions to install the light were complicated and I felt it made my normally easy going husband a but frustrated to install it. It took almost an hour which I think was excessive.
The light itself is very attractive and easy to control once it is installed. Although I feel I need a brighter light to see - I blame it on my old eyes and all the years of computer use.
The functions of creating different ambiances and controlling it via Alexa or your phone are very cool. With that said, with the price tag - this is not a product I can recommend.

Philips - Hue White Ambiance Being Dimmable LED Smart Flush mount - Aluminum is a great addition to Philips Hue family for the people who are already into Home Automation with locks, lights, security etc. Please make sure that you have Philips Hue Bridge. This light won't work without the bridge.
Since i already have Philips BR30 and A19 bulbs throughout the house, there is no issue to install and configure this light. Installation is quick and easy if you are familiar with wiring at home. The instructions in the guide could have better. It took me close to 50 mins. If you are not comfortable to install the light yourself, please hire some electrician and they can do it for you. After the installation of the light, i was able to add this light into my existing bridge within 5 mins. This light produces enough light for room. Please note that it is ambiance light and it may not fill the entire room if the room is larger.
The design is great and it looks very beautiful on the ceiling. I was able to control using Siri, Google Home and Alexa without any issues. It is a great light with many features and it is a good addition to existing Philips hue family.
It is going be a very difficult decision to invest around 250$ including bridge when ceiling LEDs are selling less than 40$.

Beautiful Fixture but...

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
First the fixture is beautiful but instructions are complicated and seem not to match the product exactly. The installation is straight forward if you have installed wiring before but can be a big ask for homeowners in older homes with older delicate wiring.
Once the unit is installed, you realize that this is more an accent light and not a whole room light for seeing/reading. But it is rather a very beautiful fixture but for the price a bit too much, an included remote would have been nice...but none is included.
Also you need to have a philips hue bridge which is pretty costly and for true smart home networking control you need products like google home, Amazon Alexa or other similar devices to control remotely. I think for the price that a remote should be include if you do not wish to purchase all these accessories to make smart home networking control a reality.
In the end, it is rather complicated to assemble, install and not very bright but is beautiful fixture.

Another great addition to our smart home

The Philips Hue White Ambiance Being Dimmable LED Smart Flushmount is a great addition to any smart-home out there. Something that was very important in deciding to go with this unit is how compact it is. It is a very slim ceiling light with a slick brushed aluminum finish.
The instillation is very easy. If you've never mounted a ceiling light before, there are plenty of helpful youtube videos that definitely helped me when I first installed one. It's a very simple setup that anyone can do, just remember, turn off the breaker powering the light.
The Hue White Ambiance Being Dimmable LED Smart Flushmount light provides adjustment to set the mood around your house. The only problem is that it is only a white light, as opposed to changing colors. If you had the ability to change light colors, it would be even better.
In all, this is a great addition to our home. It makes home control that much better. I would recommend the Philips Hue White Ambiance Being Dimmable LED Smart Flushmount light to anyone.

Beautiful smart light for home automation

This is a beautiful light fixture that looks good once installed. This is an addition to all the other Philips Hue automation products. You can control this light with an app, or even with your home AI like Alexa, Cortana, etc. This is not a whole room light. Another thing is to make sure you have the Philips Hue bridge for this work, which can be expensive when you want to do the whole home automation. The light itself is dimmable and can change different light colors easily. There is motion sensor that can be programmed to detect and turn on/off the lights. The light bulb is not easily replaceable. Overall, i recommend this product if you already have lot of home automation and want to add this.
