Beautiful Lamp!!

I love this lamp! Upon its arrival, I was both excited and afraid to open the box and put this lamp to usage. The excitement came from opening it to pleasantly find out it was larger than expected and the nervousness came from being afraid that in my haste to set it up, I would accidentally drop it! The lamp is beautiful—I have chosen to place it on my bedroom’s night stand. The hue from the light is wonderful in so much that it isn’t harsh on the eyes. I know that the unit is controlled via a Bridge app with Alexa voice controls to dim its lightening, cut it on and off, but at this point I haven’t invested in the Bridge app. However, I am enjoying the lamp for its aesthetics and soft hue that it gives.

Easy install

This is my first venture to the world of philips hue. I am no newbie to the world of home automation as I have a home security system installed (i.e. locks/unlocks doors, cameras etc).. As much as I would just want to keep adding features to it I decided to go the more cost efficient way - thus my first table lamp. So for starters, this lamp will not work (to turn it off and on wirelessly) without a bridge module (to control it via wifi) that you have to buy separately. If you plug it directly without the module it will still light up but unless you have a wall switch to control the outlet it plugs on - its just another ordinary lamp that cost almost $100. You only need one bridge module to control multiple hue bulbs. It is also compatible with google home for voice activation. The only thing I find unappealing is that the lamp has no manual on and off switch. The lamp itself is portable and has this mushroom shaped cone that is really perfect for small end tables. The bulb does a lot of things (dimmable, wireless, connectivity, adjusts contrasts etc). So basically you are paying for the $29 bulb and a $71 lamp.

Smart Lamp

I needed a light for my office and wanted an LED table lamp. If this is your first Philips smart light, you need a Philips Hue Bridge starter kit (sold separately). You also need to download the Philips Hue app to your smartphone or tablet, as this is how you control the lamp.
Start the Hue app. First, set up your home, then select the room in your home where you want to place the light, and the app should find your lamp. If the app cannot find your lamp, simply enter the serial number on the LED bulb. Then you are set to go.
You can put the light on a timer; change its hue to one of three preset color/brightness settings (nightlight, dim, bright), or change the light color and brightness to match your mood or the lighting in a photo. Pretty neat!
Pros: Easy to set up and assemble. Various light "temperatures" possible, from very cool to very wary. Wide range of brightness possible.
Cons: There is no "on-off" switch on the lamp itself; you must use the smartphone app or plug/unplug the light to turn it on or off. You must purchase the Hue Bridge WiFi starter kit separately.

i like the fact that this light is very bright and not harsh on my eyes like other lights. i put this on a corner shelf in my room and it lights up the whole room with a very nice light. You have to buy the HUE bridge separate which sucks because no where on the website it says you need that to use this light, without it u cant even turn it off.

Attractive, though Pricey, Addition to Philips Hub

The Philips - Hue White Ambiance Wellner Dimmable LED Smart Table Lamp is attractive (subjective, but I really like it) and offers a nice range of white light intended to facilitate the desired mood or response at the appropriate time.
The price is high for a bulb, glass globe and electric cord with no manual controls (other than to plug the lamp in or not). If you don't have a Philips Hue Bridge hub (required to control the lamp), then the initial investment does not justify this purchase alone. Because of this, I would not recommend it to a friend unless the price was significantly lower than at present.
However, if you've already invested in a Philips hub and are intentionally building a smart-home environment to add function and pleasure to your home, this would be an attractive addition.

Great Smart Light

Excellent secondary light for a table. Love the options it has with the HUE app for turning On/Off on a timer or when arriving home. There are several preset scenes and an option to create your own. Prior to hooking up to the app it would change color now it only has shades of white. Still have not figured that one out yet???

Basic Light for a Heavy Price

I guess I was expecting a little more for a $100 table lamp. Basically you get a glass dome, power cord, and one white hue bulb. When you look at the cost of a single bulb is $30, the net cost of the dome and power cable is $70. This seems very high for what you actually get. You can purchase any table lamp, buy a $30 bulb, and have the same thing.
I will say the dome is a heavy glass and well made. It does diffuse the light very well. Other than that, its hard to justify the $100 price tag for this lamp. If it ever goes on sale for less than $60, it would probably be worth it at that price.

So this light is a simple and complex as it can get at the same time. Simple to setup (open box, screw in bulb, plug in, add to app), Simple to use. Philips HUE app, or several third party apps, and you can completely use this light.
The large gum-drop shaped glob, disperses the light all over the room, and looks pretty nifty on your desk, or table.
Pros: Easy to setup and use... no issues at all. Connects right to your Philips Bridge (sold seperately). Bright, modern, and just down right an eye-catcher
Con: The lightbulb included is locked into the "cool" daylight colors, this isn't a full Philips Hue light bulb.. So no reds, greens, purple, orange. White and light blue is the range.
Pro to counter the con: The bulb isn't fully integrated and locked in, so you could swap it out for a different Philips Hue smart bulb if you wish.

accent lighting, not a table lamp

This works well as an accent light, and it integrated easily with my existing Hue setup. I added it to two other white lights in the room, and it dims and turns on and off in sync. The only thing I need to go into the individual light settings for is to change the temperature of the white light. The included bulb does not do other colors, but you could conceivably put a different bulb in the fixture. The fixture shape isn't the greatest, but it provides a consistent diffuse glow across the entire surface of the lamp. It sits flush on the table, so much of the light goes out and up (so consider that if you're planning to use it as a lamp for reading, etc). Good product, but make sure you have the right use case in mind.

Overall the Hue lighting system delivers as expected. Controllable, dimmable and visually pleasing.
Smart lighting has given us great flexibility. When we are gone I can easily dim and turn on and off my lights. I can even look on my security camera to see that it is on/off. This product offers all aspects of having my smart home be smarter.

It’s just a lamp

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I was pretty excited to get this and try it out, then I got it and disappointment set in. It’s not a bad looking lamp, and very sturdy. But without a Hue Bridge, all you have is a $100 lamp that you can’t turn on or off. So unfortunately this review is based on just what I have, which is a heavy, expensive lamp that you can’t turn on or off. To turn it on you plug it in, to shut it off you unplug it. This modern, futuristic, smart device is anything but, without the bridge.
The bridge runs around $50 if you are so inclined. If you already have the bridge, it may be for you, if you don’t, you have just a lamp, that you can’t turn or off.

Very happy with the light. I use it in my office. So much better then the fluorescent lights. love the natural light. Like being able to use with my smartphone, but I wish they would have also included an on and off switch on the cord. Not always convenient to have your phone out.

I was under excited about this product. I was excited about the notion of a smart lamp. The package does not actually include the items needed to make it smart. It is basically the globe of a light and the light bulb. There is silicone on the globe so you can sit it flat on most surfaces. It is pretty bright but otherwise it is just a light without anything else.

Right now its just a light bulb on my desk. you need to purchase the Hue Bridge.. This isn't not mentioned in the title or in the product features.. The product itself is just a light bulb with a cover over it. Very simple. There isnt an on/off switch so you have to unplug it to turn it off.
