The awesomeness of hue, now outdoors!

I have been a big fan of the Hue lights for a while now and have lots of them throughout our house. So I jumped at the chance to try out this new outdoor set when they came out.
Unboxing them was very simple. 3 lights in separate boxes and then there was another box with the power supply and connecting cables. Getting everything connected is very simple, I would think that most people would be able to connect them without any problem. Plug one end into the power cord, then run a cable to a T connector and plug one light into one side of the connector and run another cable to the next light and repeat till they are all hooked up. The lights and cables appear to be very heavy duty. I live in Wisconsin, and we experience both extremes of hot and cold with the weather. I have no doubt that I could leave these lights out year-round and not have any issues with them. Both the lights and the cables are black so its easy to run them and have the cables be pretty inconspicuous.
For the lights themselves, they get very bright. I was expecting more of an accent light, but at full brightness, these things really put off some light. But you can, of course, dim them down to whatever brightness level you want to in the app.
Which leads me to setting them up in the app. If you have an existing Hue setup, these integrate into that setup without any problems. My app saw the lights and I was able to connect them in seconds. Im sure the neighbors were wondering what was going on cause I was out there playing with them for at least an hour when I first set them up, changing the colors and brightness of them.
These will be a great addition to our outdoor space and allow us to make some custom lighting depending on what we are doing outside. We pretty much always have them on a very dim setting to be an accent light, but then have different scenes set up for when we have parties and things going on.
I would HIGHLY recommend these to anyone who already has a Hue setup in their house, or even people that don't and are just curious about it. They will be a very cool addition to any home and definitely get people to notice your house!

I received these lights at no cost for an honest review.
This particular kit came with 3 spot lights, stakes, and brackets in case you want to hang them somewhere. Included were approx. 15 feet long cables to go between each light, and about 12 feet between wall and first light. If you already have the Philips Hue bridge, you will be familiar with this setup. The app lets you customize the light colors/brightness/dim level/timers/moods, etc. The app comes preloaded with 12 "scenes" depending on what you want your color scheme to be. For example: "relax," "savanah sunset," and "energize" are 3 of them. With over 16 million colors to choose from for each light, your possibilities are literally endless. The app actually has a palette from which you can choose the colors, and it's super easy to do. One cool feature is that if you allow the app your location, you can set up so that the lights automatically come on if you come home when it's past sunset (the app knows when sunset happens). Overall, I am impressed and if you have any kid of outdoor lights, this would pretty much be a huge upgrade and an extremely convenient setup. With 4th of July just over, I set up my lights to red, white, and blue, and I was impressed with the overall system. I highly recommend.

Awesome Flood Lights!

These lights are awesome. Setup was easy and painless. Plug the male and female end of the cables, and twist the screw to lock into place. When I opened the Phillips Hue app on my phone, it automatically found the lights and set them up. I had no problems adding them to Alexa. Setting them up to Google Home was a bit tricky. It never added the lights, nor could it find them. I unlinked my Phillips Hue account from the Google Home app, then added it back. After signing back in to my Phillips Hue account, all of my previous lights and the new flood lights were all added. The lights can be changed to any color or brightness you choose. You can also choose different colors and settings for each individual light. If you want one light to be green, another yellow, and another purple it's all possible.

Smart lights in a smart package

I've started to lose track of how many times I've left reviews for Hue products where I enthusiastically endorse the system, but I know it's more than three and I'm running out of superlatives. As you might be able to guess from this decidedly first-world problem, the Lily spotlight kit has once again demonstrated the strength of Philips's approach to smart lighting.
The biggest thing I was worried about getting these was the build quality. I’ve worked with lawn lights before and encountered innumerable woes with fragile wiring, cheap plastic parts, dirt-attracting lenses, and holes large enough to let bugs build nests inside them. The Lily lights, however, don’t appear to suffer from any of these flaws. The lights may be small but they’re surprisingly hefty, with a solid metal frame and a thick glass lens protecting the fragile LED element from the elements. Both the screw base and the included lawn spikes are solid metal, rendered in the same unobtrusive black as the spotlights rather than the weirdly easy to spot green that I’ve seen in other similar fixtures. And I can confirm that it is indeed able to stand up to the worst that local wildlife (in my case, a “helpful” wiener dog) can throw at it without difficulty.
The build quality extends beyond the fixtures as well. Rather than hard-wiring everything into a single power supply, they’ve instead opted for a terminal system which allows you some flexibility in how you hook up the lights. You get two junctions and three extension cables to play with to set up the lights as needed, and they might be the beefiest cables I’ve encountered for outdoor lighting. While I haven’t found explicit confirmation of this yet, my guess is that they’re heavy duty enough to stand up to being buried for years to provide protection against any wandering lawnmowers that might do them harm. Screw terminals at each junction point provide a durable watertight seal (though given the expense of the units I’m very much tempted to add an additional layer of silicone just for paranoia’s sake.) And power is provided via a low voltage DC power supply intended to be plugged into an exterior outlet. It’s rated to drive a total of five of the spotlights, so there’s a bit of room for future expansion or a very comfortable cushion against wear and tear, depending on how you look at it. The control signal, like with all hue lights, is handled over the 2.4gHz band with each light capable of serving as a repeater to help make sure that the control signal makes it out to the furthest bulb.
With all that being said, there are a few things you should watch out for. The biggest one is that control signal. The lights are next to useless if they can’t daisy chain their way back to the Hue bridge. And 2.4gHz signals can sometimes struggle to get through exterior walls depending on how they’re built. So before you commit to this particular system it might be a good idea to just do a quick check with your cell phone to make sure that your yard isn’t a complete dead zone. If it is, there’s a good chance that you’ll need to either exercise clever bulb positioning both inside and outside to get a clear signal through or install a Hue security light to keep the signal going.
The other thing to be aware of is that unlike most of the Hue starter packs, this one does not come with the bridge needed to coordinate the smart functionality. So if this is going to be your first time using Hue lights, you’ll need to factor the cost of buying either a starter pack or a separate bridge into the overall package.
All in all, the system is a great way to add a little extra color to your lawn or garden!

Unlimited lightning possibilities with Phillips!

This is my first experience with Phillips Hue lights, I have had several outdoor lights in my backyard but over time the material started to deteriorate and look bad. So, these 3 lights exterior package was my beginning to start my journey into the “smart” way of lightning for my backyard and add additional functionality.
First at all, the package comes with 3 Smart Spot lights for you to place on the supplied posts or hang them on the wall allowing the ability to point any specific place to create a warm, sunset or romantic scene you want, with the combination of 16 million colors you can set up and control using your smart phone. The kit includes 3 extension cords, 3 power distribution connectors blocks, so you can power one light after the other in series, 3 Spikes, 3 Smart Spot Lights (8watts each) that includes an interchangeable base, to turn into either pedestal or Ground post light, the cable length is 18 in, A 24Volt 1.6 amp Power Adapter (40 watts), which should support up to 5 lights 8 watts each, The cables from the light fixture is 18 inches, AC 24 volt transformer cable is 75 inches, and the 3 included extension cords are 200 inches.
It has 60 feet range from the Hue Bridge to the Smart Light, and each light acts as a repeater, to further increase distance, this technology uses proprietary communication between Phillips lights that has an open python API. I tested in a range of to 35 feet no line sight with no problem at all.
The cords are good flexible silicon base cord for outdoor use for each fixture with water resistant connectors, nice metal housing, and diffused lens. The light housing is primarily aluminum, appears to be very durable and weather resistant, with a mate black color. I was pleased to find that instead of one RGB LED there was an RGB LED plus White LED to allow better saturation of colors. The Hue platform gives you the option to manage, schedule, control the intensity and change colors, with the installation of the Hue app that can be found on the Google Play and Apple App Stores.
Connectivity was very simple, from plugging the lights and installing the Hue onto your device. Simply add the light by entering the Serial Number of each light fixture into the Hue app, the light by default will show as Hue Outdoor Spot 1 then Hue Outdoor Spot 2 and so on for each of these fixtures. (the light name can be changed to suit your purpose.) For what I can see, there is not automatic discovery, and once you add that serial number in your Phillips account and you cannot add to a different account. So, you go to Settings-add light setup-add light-add serial number. Once you do that go to Room setup, create a room, (Put a name) save the config Next setup a room and assign the new fixtures to group them together allowing power on/off, intensity, color and predefined scenes to be set for that room or grouping.
The Hue App and the fixtures are Apple home Kit and Amazon Echo compatible.
Phillips Hue Bridge required for fixture control and connectivity, sold separately but it is very affordable from most vendors.
I am very pleased with the performance and the practically unlimited options and settings these lights, the Phillips Hue Bridge and Hue APP are capable to do.

The Philips Hue Lily Lights the way!

Let me start off by saying that I am avid gardener and consider myself an expert with the business of landscaping from A to Z. Enter the Philips Hue Lily Spot Base Kit. I was excited to add low voltage accent lighting to my garden, that was both energy efficient and cost effective to use.
I had been utilizing spot lights in my garden (or should I say "hardly" using them) because each of my spot light bulbs were at least 110 to 150 watts each. I was using 5 bulbs which was absolutely driving my electric bills skyward. The Lily Spot contains three 640 lumen spot lights which are 8 watts each. Guess what direction your electric bill will be headed in.
The supplied kit comes complete with everything you need for your garden install. Each spot light has a 5 meter cord, which translates into a15 foot reach. Fifteen feet of cord gives you a nice range of maneuvering your lights into that "exact" position. The kit has 3 spot lights, 3 cords, and a power supply, which is more than enough to light up a pretty good sized area.
You will need a Hue Bridge to control and operate these lights, which is clearly indicated on the product box. This product allows you to change the colors of your spot lights into an infinite number of colors. You can operate these spot lights without a Hue Bridge, but you will have to manually plug and unplug the power supply when you wish to operate the lights. Also, you will not be able to fully appreciate the amazing array of colors these lights are capable of unless you have the Hue Bridge. The Hugh Bridge is an absolute must. If you don't have one, you have to purchase one.
A few words on feel of the spot lights, power supply, and extensions. The spot lights have a solid feel and give me the impression that water will not penetrate the housing unit. The power unit seems well sealed and the supplied power cords seem to be manufactured to superior standards capable of lasting many years.
Be prepared to update your Hugh Bridge software when your link this product, otherwise your Hugh Bridge will not operate your Spot Lights. My software update time lasted around 1 1/2 hours.
I believe that the owners manual should have be more comprehensive and detailed. You all know the type, i.e. connect part "A" with "C" for example would be helpful to those consumers who have 2 "left hands".
After my installation of the system, we had approximately an inch of rain. Good news, as the system worked perfectly during and after the rain storm. So far no complaints concerning using the item in a wet area.
Each Lily Spot light throws a decent amount of light. You will be able to easily "light accent" areas in your garden with beautiful color combinations. I'm sure your going to be the envy of your neighbors once you position, bury the extension cables, and power up your new Philips Hue Lily. Get ready to light up your life!

I have been a user of Philips Hue lights since they were first released. I have never had a problem with any of their products, this one included. The outdoor lights were particularly well built and the color and brightness are excellent. Install was super easy since I already have outdoor lighting in place. The only thing that would be nice is if it could connect to already installed outdoor wiring. There was no information on burial requirements for the wires, in the instructions, so I guess anything goes. Very pleased and can't wait to add more lights to the system!!

About Time

I have been using Philips Hue lights indoors for several years now and have been waiting patiently for Philips to make the venture outdoors. One of those new outdoor products is the Lily Spot. I received the three pack base kit and immediately set out to install the lighting on my deck. My house is a tad older and doesn't have much light on my back deck so this was just the ticket. The kit comes with three lights, adjustable stands, lawn spikes, 16' extension cables, two power distribution blocks, and power supply. I installed the lighting across my deck under the easement of the adjoining roof with each light pointed straight down. Total installation time was probably 30 minutes and I powered them up and quickly added them to my Hue Bridge. On a side note, a Hue Bridge is not included with the base kit and is required for operation.
The lights put out a fairly significant amount of light as it is a spot light and I will caution that you don't want them pointing at people. I originally had them kicked out to provide more coverage across my deck, but realized that the output is simply too intense if you happen to glance up at one directly. So, I put them straight down and problem was solved. As these are Hue lights all of the typical bells and whistles come with that: multiple colors, varying degrees of white temperature, overall brightness control, scene control, and routine setup are a breeze. Just install the Hue app and go. They can also be controlled by Alexa, HomeKit, and Google Home.
Overall fit and finish seems very good. The lights and stands are a powder coated aluminum and the housings are weather resistant (IP65) so they can be placed basically anywhere outside. The size of the canister is nice and compact to make it less intrusive. If you need more distance between lights you can buy additional extension cables too.
If you already have a Hue system then this a no-brainer extension if you are looking to take it outside. The Lily Spot Base Kit is a great starter package and I will be looking to add additional lights to my backyard soon.

My main purpose for getting this was to be able to have lights up my driveway which weren't turned on constantly due to area animals tripping the motion sensors. This does the trick. I have been able to set it up so that each of the lights hits a different part of my driveway and, when I'm on my way home, I can easily turn on which light I want and then, easily turn them off when I get into the house. No more stumbling in the dark waiting for the motion sensor to kick in!
This is very easy to connect to the Hue Hub, which is not included so you must buy one separately if you don't already have one, and then set it up the way you would like. You can place it on a timer or turn them on and off individually, which is what I prefer. There are scenes you can access to give your lights different colors. The lights come with stakes if you want to put them in dirt, a base that can be screwed to a fence or a deck, and an extension post if you want to make it higher from the base. You can buy additional lights but it appears each power base only handles 5 lights so if you want more you have to buy another power base. It works with Alexa so I can have her turn the lights on when I go out at night and set a timer for them to go off after I've left. They are very well made and I'm looking at buying another set for the front of my house so, again, I don't have to wait for the motion sensor to kick on the front porch light.

Philips HUE Goes Outdoors!

I am an early adopter of Philips HUE Smart Bulbs. This new outdoor spot light base kit, Lily, provides the identical millions of color, same as the indoor HUE Bulbs.
The vast majority of users will already own indoor HUE Bulbs, and consequently own a HUE Hub. A Hub is required, but is not included.
Build quality is superb; metal fixtures with optional metal stakes if mounting stakes are desired. Completely weatherproof, these are truly amazing lights!
The cords are durable and are very long. The brightness of the Bulbs is fantastic! The bulbs are rated at 25,000 hours, which is incredible. The individual bulbs cannot be changed, however. You simply replace the unit. I have yet to have the first HUE Bulb fail, and I have over 100 bulbs in daily use through 2) Hubs.
CONCLUSION: This is the perfect product for the many Philips HUE customers. Beautify your landscape and stand out with 16 million colors that blend with your indoor HUE. They use the same voice control, timers and scenes as all other HUE. Lily earns my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!

Party-Worthy Lighting

I've rigged up most of my home to have smart lighting. All of it is Phillips Hue, and I've long hoped for an exterior lighting kit from them.
Upsides:
- These light up a mid-sized area really well (at least 50x35).
- Color depth, throw, and spread of light are awesome
- The mix of the three lights can create some fantastic ambiance
- The shells of the lights are rugged and seem reasonably water resistant.
- The position adjustment is ratcheted (awesome) so they won't droop.
- Communication to the base hub is routed through existing lights, so reaching lights outside is easier than it would seem.
- The app is amazing and that these can be automated is even better.
So why 4 stars instead of 5?
Make no mistake about it: all outdoor lighting cabling is a disaster. There's good way to hide it, it's awkward to figure out multiple connections via T-Connectors, etc... these connectors are good quality, they lock together with a screw mechanism, and the coords are bulky. As far as outdoor lighting cable goes, it's not bad.
Even so, Phillips Hue has made the stuff of magic with their other products. They specialize in stand-alone lighting that creates amazing atmosphere.
The corded solution here seems clunky compared to Phillips' other solutions - the power brick to drive the LEDs is ridiculously large... why these aren't just a little larger and solar powered is the bigger question. I'd even take induction-powered lights that had to be recharged...
I wish the installation necessities of these lights kept up with the pure magic that their other products have, but in terms of wifi/connected/app-driven outdoor lighting kits - this is a really, really good one.

I put in this base kit a few days ago, it blows away the weak lighting set up I had. Set up is a breeze, just literally plug and play. You do need to have the Hue Bridge, but if you are thinking about this set up you probably already have one. I have several interior Hue lights already and once plugged in the app instantly recognized the exterior lights. Every night I get a different color light show.
These lights are solid build quality, with heavy duty cords, and water proof connections. The lights are very bright and the color combinations are endless.
The only complaint I have, is now I want more lights. Guess it’s time to put some cash away to get more lights.
Very highly recommended.

Lighting Up the Yard

This is an impressive set of outdoor lighting!
Of course, the Philips Hue lights are smart lights. You must have an existing Philips Hue Bridge in order to use them, but if you do, wirelessly connecting them to the Bridge is a snap. Once connected, you can control the lights via the Hue app on a phone or tablet, or you can control them with your voice via Google Assistant or Alexa. I used Google Assistant, and they integrated perfectly.
They have wide color gamut and do a good job of creating different atmospheres through the use of color. There are a few preset "scenes" (color combinations) you can use, but you can also easily create your own scene. You can set each light to a separate color or have them all the same. I'm really impressed.
Construction is very durable aluminum. Each base can be mounted on a wall, can sit on a flat surface, or can be spiked into the ground with the included spike and mount. The cables are heavy-duty and allow you to daisy-chain the lights together so they get power. There is an included power converter that plugs into your outlet. All of it looks good and feels well-made.
Of course, since they are intended for outdoor use, they are waterproof (IP65 rated) and dustproof. Philips says the lights will last up to 25,000 hours of use.
The angle of the lights can be adjusted manually.

I already have a Hue system within my home. When adding in the Lilly system, the hardest part was sticking the stakes in the ground.
The lights are bright and colors are amazing as usual. I was happy to get mine in time for the 4th of July and had our nation's colors lighting up the front of my home.
The Hue app is so easy to use, setting up on and off times, even fade them in and out.
Using an Android phone, there are many 3rd party apps that can use these lights to even more capabilities, like strobe lights for Halloween, Christmas light shows and more.
You can even turn them on away from home and change the times to make it look like you are still there, nice little add of security when on vacation.
Buy these, they do not disappoint!

Easy Setup With Minor Irritations
|

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Build quality is fantastic. They are hardly noticeable even in the open, a very minimalist design. The lights are bright and can be adjusted for color or brightness. Scenes can be set up along with timers and schedules. Really a simple setup and fairly straightforward.
Probably the hardest part of the setup is getting the design right. I ended up doing a mock up a few times over with different configurations to get the best layout I could. Having only 3 lamps and 2 three way junctions limits your options, I wish there was one more lamp or at least one extra cable in the box.
I went with the spike option to do ground lighting. The switch between bases is as easy as one could expect.
The app configuration was simple once I spent a couple minutes to figure out why all the lamps were not being found. The app, at least the version I had when installing, only found one new lamp at a time. I had to search 3 times to find all the lamps.
I also had to move the hub closer to the center of the house to reach all the lamps and bulbs installed. I ran into a slight issue where one lamp could not reach the hub. If you have mesh networking use the closest node to house the Hub. If you have a standard WiFi setup, maybe use a repeater as a way to get the hub closer to where you would have the best coverage.
Connecting to a smart speaker system is easy as can be. BUT, do your HUE device renaming before syncing with the speaker. Just to save some time later.
Like I said, minor irritations.
WARNING: There is no Hue Hub included with the "Base Kit". I ended up running out and spending a little more to get a starter kit with two white bulbs and the hub.
WARNING 2: If you are using a smart speaker like Home, it has a hard time understanding the word Garage for some reason. If you name these, go with Driveway or Walkway. Test the word before setting up. Just ask Home to spell the word.
