A Smooth Shave

The Philips Norelco 1100 works as advertised. I was actually surprised to get a smooth shave as I did with this unit. Im usually a razor type of guy so using the 1100 surprised me how close of a shave I got and how smooth my face was. I realized after using this Norelco 1100 is that I am a fan of plug-in units compared to the battery operated ones. It puts out more power and shaves a lot better so I was actually impressed with this shaver. Clean up is easy and stores nicely. I would recommend the Norelco 1100 electric shaver to anyone who wants a close and smooth shave that you don't get too often with the battery operated shavers.

A great electric shaver for a very low cost

The Norelco 1100 electric shaver is a very simple electric shaver. When I got it, I didn’t realize just how simple it was. But that did help to explain the price.
You can get this shaver for under $30.00 at most places. It is a simple 3-head electric shaver. There are no other accessories or features with this shaver. If you want wireless, additional trimmers, nice carrying case, etc., then this shaver is not for you. But remember, it is under $30.00! The last time I bought a really good, 5-blade razor, I spent $29.00 and the replacement blades were around $12.00 a pack.
The main part of this review should be – how well does it shave? Let me start by saying that my whiskers are very stiff. I have a hard enough time getting a really close shave with some blades, much less an electric shaver. I did my review in two parts.
For the first test, I tried shaving with this shaver on a 4-day shadow. By this time, my whiskers are no longer little stubs. This razor had a difficult time with my beard at this length. To be fair, I have never had an electric that could handle my beard at that length. All in all, it did about average, removing about 70% of the beard. I had to finish with a blade.
The second test was using this shaver every day. In this test, it did really well. It cut my whiskers and removed any shadow I had. I did not have to follow up with a blade when using it regularly.
So how did I come up with a 5-star rating? I simply reviewed this electric razor for what it is, not what it should have been. I did not get a shaver with a bunch of features and accessories. I did not get a shaver with a nice leather carry case and a rechargeable battery that I can use while taking a shower. I got a $29.00 electric shaver that did as well as the $170.00 electric shaver I had years ago (which only lasted about 3 years). I do not need additional trimmers, cutters, or additional accessories. I don’t need a carrying case because I have a medicine bag that I carry when traveling and it goes in there. And I don’t need the ability to shave while in the shower, although, that would be really cool.
If you need an inexpensive electric shaver that cuts well when using it daily, then I can’t recommend a better selection. It’s a name brand and does what it was designed to do at a very low cost.

This shaver got the job done

I have used one similar style electric shaver to cut my mustache for more than 10 years now. That shaver was chargeable; however, the battery has since lost the ability to hold charge (feeding into my feelings on corded versus uncorded). And now, onto the review!
The electric shaver itself is pretty straight forward. There is the shaver, a cover for the razors, and a cord in the box. The blade heads allow for multi-directional motion to assist in conformity to the contour of ones face. There is also an easily used button to open the top of the shaver to allow for disposal of hair post shave. I have no outright complaints to the shave itself. The power button easily starts up the shaver and then after a few rotational passes over an area the hair would be adequately cut flush with the skin. I did not notice any areas of skin that were cut. I also did not have any painful sensation of the hairs getting pulled out rather than cleanly cut. The shaver has the option to replace the shaving heads (recommended every 12 months) if the cut becomes not as smooth and clean.
My only complaint about this shaver is associated with the corded-use only aspect of the shaver. The shaver is corded-use only; however, a weird caveat is that the cord is still detachable? I do not understand why and I do not see the practicality of having a corded-use only devise that has a detachable cord.
Overall this shaver was successful in the claims. As I used the corded-use only shaver, there was comfort with the cut of the blades, that were able to flex well along the contours of my face.

I purchased this thinking it was cordless --- wrong! It was really lightweight and felt cheap when shaving. The electrical cord kept coming out at the connection on the shaver.

My husband got a good shave using Philips Norelco 1100 series after using it a few times it was a closer shave than the first couple times, he did get a little bit of a skin irritation so he was kind of reluctant to try an electric shaver again cause he has in the past & I read that it normal for that to happen, it won't work if your facial hair is a certain length you do have to trim it down which is a down side, it is corded & not a wet/dry so no shaving in the shower or on the road like I've seen some men do, lol. You can purchase replacement blades when needed very easy to clean & light weight. Overall good quality for the price, it is lightweight which he liked & did get the smooth close shave he was looking for in an electric shaver, we would recommend. It a good choice & simple easy use.

I have never owned a corded shaver. All have been battery/ rechargeable, and all those had a very short life of about 1.5 years. I decided a corded might be worth a try. So far so good. I will admit the rotary heads do not shave as close as the straight ones. Also, the rotary heads do not work well for sideburns.
The unit itself had a good build quality and is simply black. Nothing special and easy to operate. Cleaning the heads is easy, and the one push button operation has a nice feel. The supplied cord is fairly long, and the transformer on the plug is not big.
Just wish it was able to shave closer.

A good alternative to a battery powered shaver

This shaver can't be compared to it's battery powered cousins because it always needs a plug to function. I will say that it shaves just as close as a battery powered rechargable and is water proof (as long as you unplug the cord).
The lack of battery makes this extremely light weight and the build quality seems like it should provide years of use. I could see packing this on a trip or using it as a backup razor for those days you may forget the charge your primary shaver. The box includes a blade cover and a plug. The AC plug is the same one that charges the Philips OneBlade so you can pack a OneBlade and this shaver and only need one cord for both! I appreciate that.

The Philips 1100 Electric shavers has a lot of function for a very low price point. I have been using a mechanical shaver but the start to finish time frame is about 30 minutes. Using the Philips 1100 it is taking about 5 minutes in the morning, great way to save time and still get a close shave. It has three self-sharping replaceable shaving heads that last about a year. These shaving heads give a remarkable close shave, the shaving deck is flexible and allows for a closer shave due to more contact with your skin. You cannot use the shaver in the shower. You can clean it, after you unplug it, with warm water, then just let it air dry. I wasn’t sure about it not being cordless, but it seems to have better power than my old one that was chargeable. I guess having to bring the cord with you when you travel is worth it for a better shave.

You get what you pay for, this electric shaver is very competitively priced, which means it’ll get the job done without any extra bells or whistles.
Pretty light weight, I wouldn’t say it feels heavy duty, The four heads do a nice job at hugging your face and shaving as close as possible. Not as close as a razor but pretty close.
Overall I’m happy with it but I could see why some people might not like it especially if you have long or a very thick beard. For me it took a few tries before I could get used to it because my whole life I’ve used nothing but razors.

This is an average electric shaver IMHO. I've never used one before, so I was excited to try this one. Since it was my first time using an electric shaver, I didn't know what to expect. My cousin uses one all the time, so he recommended I try it. Honestly, I'm not very much thrilled about it and would stick to the traditional shaver but that is my personal opinion. It also doesn't provide as much close shave as I like. No matter how hard I press it to my skin, I just couldn't get it close. Maybe I wasn't using it the right way but that was my experience. One other complaint about it is that it's not battery operated and has to be plugged in to be used which is another let down for me. For the price of $30, it's okay for someone who uses electric shavers but it's not my thing.

Great Corded Razor

This basic razor is a great option for anyone that uses their razor mostly at home. This razor works well and because you can get it wet, cleaning it is really easy.
I have had a different cordless model for a number of years which I really liked, but more recently it has had some issues. Mostly its that the battery doesn’t really hold a charge much and because it uses the battery to operate, the razor doesn’t have much power even when plugged in. I’m hoping that because this one doesn’t have a battery in it, it will continue to work just as well in a few years as it does now.
Since I never really use the razor except in a bathroom near a plug, that works just fine for me.

I'm pleased with the performance of the shaver. It's quiet and delivers a good shave. I have replaced a blade razor with it, as it is much quicker to use, not having to go through the routine of shaving cream etc, and delivers a clean smooth shave.
My one quibble with it is that I feel that it's a bit lightweight and I feel that it's a bit underpowered. It does however, do what it is intended to do and does a good job of it, it gives you a good shave.

Needed a good shaver for work and this Norelco did not disappoint! I can have very stubborn facial hair but the 1100 does a great job making me look presentable without turning my face beet red. I use this as a secondary shaver in the evening and it has worked awesome. When I am late for work in the morning I just take this with me and also complete a great shave taking time off my trip. Great product which is to be expected from Norelco.

I’ve used Norelco shavers for years, and this is the least expensive version they’ve ever sold. Since Norelco’s can cost up to ten times as much, what’s the difference?
This is as basic as an electric shaver can be. It’s corded, all plastic, and there’s no pop-up trimmer. The good part other than price is that it shaves pretty much like my much more costly cordless version. As with its expensive cousins, pop the head open, and it can be cleaned under running water (unplug it first, of course).
One thing that’s common to all Norelco shavers stated in the instructions … you have to use it a while before your skin and whiskers adapt to the rotary heads. Believe it if you’re changing from a different system, or you will not be happy.
I find it a good secondary shaver where its limitations aren’t a problem. At this point, I don’t know how well the light and inexpensive construction will hold up. Also, Norelco replacement heads can be quite pricey ( typically $15-30), and they tell you to replace them annually “for best results”. I didn’t find a listing for 1100 series heads, so the price is unknown. That makes it difficult to judge if this is intended to be a disposable product.

Not a time saving shave

I’ve always operated under the assumption that shaving with an electric razor would be faster or easier than the old fashioned method. I now stand corrected, as nearly 10 minutes under my chin with just a few days growth seemed pretty excessive when I compare it to breaking out the razor and shaving cream. While the 4D heads do a nice job of conforming to your face as advertised, that didn’t equate to actual hair removal. Round and round and round I went, and not enough of anything happened. It is also very important to note this is a corded model - if you want something rechargeable you will want to look elsewhere. Overall I couldn’t recommend this product based on the inefficiency of the blades and the bare bones feature set.

I used for couple of weeks before writing this review, I want to make sure i am not giving low or high rating with initial use and impression. Here is my experience. I really loved wired option, of course many people may not like it, since i have already have couple of battery operated ones, Sometimes i do not charge on time, and when i need it i do not have charging, that really upsets me and i thought myself, why they should not it have wire option as well, and this one has wired option but no battery, i am ok with it, Even in travels i am sure power outlets will be there in wash/bath rooms, The main problem with this is, it is not doing clean shave, if i try to do more it may hurt or gets red in that spot which i did not like it, I feel this is not good for clean shave, it can be used to do very close trimming which looks like we shaved like 1-2 days back, maybe some people wants like that. Price is super cheap, so it is worth for the price. Again this may not work for all.

I didn’t like the plastic feel. Straight out of the box I expected something a bit heavier. It does shave but I did have to go over some areas quite a few times. It’s ok at best in my opinion.
