Reluctant buyer ... time will tell
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Kids have been asking for an Air Fryer for a long time. Friends and family recommended Philips - they use it all the time. Bought this one - kinda pricey and jury is still out on usefulness. Seems like a bunch of work to clean etc. But overall does seem like a good appliance.

Holy cow!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Disclaimer: I received this item for free in exchange for my honest review of the product. Holy. Cow. I don't think I've ever been so impressed by a specialty kitchen item (except my coffee maker...and I've also never used an instant pot and I've heard those are pretty nifty, too!), and I've really only used it to prepare frozen food so far! The cook book that comes with the fryer actually makes me excited to cook! It is super easy to set up - the directions to assemble are clear (though you have to pay attention and read ALL of the instructions because the diagrams aren't necessarily near the written directions for each step). I went from box to using it in less than 5 minutes! The chicken nuggets I've been trialing it with are much crispier and take half the time of oven baking (how I usually make them), and if everything else is as easy and quick to make as them, I will be using this multiple nights a week! The included cook book gives SO many yummy looking recipes to try, and I know there are tons online, too! My one and only issue I have so far is that it is WAY more expensive than the other air fryers of the same size at Best Buy (which sucks, because after using this one, I was debating buying family members ones for Christmas), and I don't understand why, unless I've missed some fancy features on this one.

Excellent build quality and performance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Philips air fryer might cost a bit more than comparable models, but it's a quality unit through and through. The overall build quality and fit and finish are a step above. The frying tray is solid and well made, and slides into the device easily without getting caught. In my testing, food such as chicken breasts and a steak came out perfect. I have always been a fan of air frying food at home. This Philips fryer makes cooking fast, convenient, easy to clean, and consistent. I would recommend this size air fryer for a single person, though it could work for a couple just fine. If there is a family to be fed, or more than 2 people max, I would highly recommend going for a larger model. This particular unit is compact without taking up much space, but cooking 2 steaks or 2-3 portions of certain dishes will not fit all at once. As long as the size works for you, this has been an excellent device.

A nice addition to the Philips product line
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is our second AirFryer; our first was from a different manufacturer. Being in tech for over 30 years, one of the first things I do with new products is review the instruction manual for best practices. Pretty obvious, I know. However, I found their manual to be poor at best as it regularly makes references to parts and capabilities not found in my model. For example, to bake a cake it refers to needing a baking pan. I went through the packing material to see if one was included, but no go. I eventually found literature showing that they have baking pans for purchase. I wasn’t sure if I could use an off-the-shelf pan, but it’s highly unlikely that it would fit properly. And even if it did fit, would using it harm the AirFryer. I just don’t know. Not to harp on my older model, but it was delivered with a generic instruction manual and a smaller product-specific version. Not one ounce of confusion learning how to use the product properly. After getting past my manual struggles, I felt that I was ready to start using the AirFryer. As an aside, the Philips AirFryer is physically smaller than my older one, although heavier – which gives it a real solid feel. And although the whole unit is smaller, the cooking basket is of equal size to my older larger unit. But being smaller overall will make stowing it easier, so I’m good with its size. The unit has a Control Panel and a Quick Control Dial. The Control Panel includes the following: • Power button • Temperature Button • Preset Button (for preset types of foods) • Timer Button • Keep Warm Button - Press the Power Button to turn the unit on. - Press the Temperature Button to set the desired temperature and use the Quick Control Dial to adjust the temperature up or down. - The Preset Button lets you toggle through different kinds of foods you’d like to cook, like Frozen French Fries (thin), Chops or Cutlet, Chicken Drumsticks, and Whole Flat Fish. The Quick Control Dial lets you select the desired option - Press the Timer Button to indicate how long you want the food to cook, using the Quick Control Dial to raise or lower the time - Press the Keep Warm Button if you want the keep the food warm up to 30 minutes after cooking has finished. The fan and heater kick on and off during this time. Our first food test was making potato wedges. They recommend soaking the wedges for 30 minutes in water, then drying them off, placing them in a bowl and adding ½ tablespoon of oil. Mix the oil and potato wedges together. How long you cook them will depend on how many wedges you’re cooking. For example, 7oz – 28oz will cook from 17 minutes to 29 minutes at 350 degrees. We don’t have a scale at home, so I just guessed and settled on 21 minutes. I shook the basket at about 11 minutes (halfway through the cycle as recommended), and then waited for it to finish. I didn’t wait the whole 21 minutes and turned it off at around 19 minutes. The result were some nicely cooked potato wedges. Tasty, too! Plus, there was no note of oil present. Apparently, it all cooked off. I thought cooking the wedges was a very easy process. The trick in general is gauging how long to cook items because it varies on how much food you’re cooking. Other fryers, by the way, allow you to Roast and Dehydrate food, which are not features of this unit. If you don’t want to do those things, then all is well. I’m inclined to give this AirFryer high marks for ease of cooking and ease of cleaning. It does seem like a solid addition to the Philips product line. In giving it 5 stars, however, I’ll be overlooking the manual - which I still find annoying. So, thumbs up to a nicely designed AirFryer.
