Easy to use, definitely would purchase again. I bought it for myself and after the first use, I felt a difference. 10/10

i received this Sonicare on 7/31, and am writing this today 8/22. The toothbrush shorts out and is clearly faulty. I have owned approx 5 Sonicare toothbrushes and am a fan of the product, despite this faulty one. Best buy wont take it back or replace it as i am outside 2 weeks. apparently i need to buy an annual membership so i get an extension of an additional 6 weeks. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR - get it direct, or through Amazon.

SUMMARY:
This is one great toothbrush. I have been a Sonicare Essence user for years and it was time to see if a newer version is better. I can unequivocally say it is. My teeth feel cleaner and I like the options this provides. The con is that, for a toothbrush, it is expensive. And the replacement heads can also be very expensive - especially the premium A3 and C3 heads that came in the box. Details to follow:
PACKAGING
- Packaging is well done with good illustrations of what is included on the outside of the box
- Two brush heads are included - the A3 Premium all in one (plaque removal, whitening and gum care), and the C3 two in one (plaque removal and whitening)
- Note that the web site states "The DiamondClean Smart is our best toothbrush, for complete care. Three high-performance brush heads let you focus on all areas of your oral health, and our Smart Sensor technology gives you personalized feedback and coaching." This is a bit misleading because you do NOT get three brush heads.
- I would think gum care is very important so would prefer two A3s but not sure in practice how much better the A3 is.
- In fact, the brush head choices can be confusing. There seem to be a myriad of choices that I will look further into because the MSRP of the A3 and C3 are expensive.
- Philips states you can get a free brush head, but you have to sign up for their subscription head replacement service which I am not a big fan of doing.
- The box includes a charging base onto which you can put two holders - a charging glass which you can dump the brush into and a charging stand which I preferred for a clean, upright look.
- The box includes a case, but I noticed that some units may come with a travel case with an integrated USB cable. I would have preferred the latter.
- Some units may also include a brush head holder. I would have like to have that as well.
- The above two items (travel case and holder) are not listed on the box so it isn't misleading, but I do think not providing these with a device this expensive are "skimpy."
- The provided instruction booklet is decent. I would have liked it to have more information on brushing modes and the different vibrations the unit makes in the modes (see below)
- The device is smaller and lighter than the Essence - a big positive
SONICARE APP:
- The manual states to install the Sonicare App as the first "getting started" step. It was easy to install, but really, is using the app essential? As I found out, not really.
- The app follows the head movement as you brush and shows you which part of the mouth to brush. It follows the pacer "beep" and shows time remaining for each part as you brush.
- When complete, the app shows "coverage scrubbing and pressure". You can go back in time to see your brushing history.
- It really is not that useful, and for many of my brushings, it shows that data is not available. So this is a bit shaky.
- The app shows brushing tips and you can reorder via the app (and web site if you desire)
- One knock - there are some modes that you should be able to set with the app such as brushing intensity that you have to do with different button pushing. Why not be able to do this in the app?
- There is also no information provided in case another family member is using the same handle. This is also a shortfall.
- The App is ok, but I believe that once I start using the brush, I probably won't use it much
PERFORMANCE:
- This is where the device shines. Performance is exceptional.
- The four modes were nice, but I probably will settle on "Gum Care". It is long, but I do like the different sensations the brush provides.
- I do wish they were described in a bit more detail in the manual however. I found this on line which is a great description:
§ What it doesn't say is what are the best brush heads for each mode.
- Our Essence brush did one thing. It was good. Some may consider this a bit complex, but I like it. Kudos.
- I believe that the vibrations felt in the hand are a bit less than the older Essence as well - another positive.
BOTTOM LINE:
The Philips Sonicare 9300 DIamondCleand Smart Toothbrush is simply excellent. The cleaning and the way it makes my teeth feel is awesome - much better than my old unit. It is versatile, the app is fine, and there are four good modes from which to choose. I do have a couple of minor nits described above but the only major con is that it is a bit expensive and the brush head replacements are pricey. It can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. But if you want great performance, this is highly recommended. I look forward to my next cleaning with my dentist to see what the hygienist has to say!

After my previous Philips Sonicare toothbrush bit the dust after almost 6 years of service, I tried out a couple of other brands that had some fancy features and looks. However, after 6 months of trying, I got back to Philips again. This time I got my hands on the top of the line model, the DiamondClean 9300. And after using it for more than a week now, all I can say is there’s a reason Philips Sonicare are so popular.
The DiamondClean 9300 is not cheap, and that’s because instead of being just another electric toothbrush, this is actually a “system”. I really liked the charging part - there’s the usual wireless charging puck that needs another “fitting” to accommodate the brush. A small plastic stand helps do that. However, in the box there’s a rinse glass that doubles as a brush holder and a charger, while still being able to be used for mouthwash.
Along with the charging stuff, the package also includes a travel case that holds the brush body together with 2 brush heads. The case is slick, looks nice, but not the most hardy. Especially it opens up very easily even though it is held by magnets. Also it has no other functionality, unlike an expensive model that has charging capability.
Coming back to the actual brush itself - 2 brush heads (A3 and C3) come with the kit, with a life of 3 months each. The A3 is the all-rounder here, while the C3 foregoes the gum care capability to deliver a cheaper option. Both heads worked as it should be, and cleaned my tooth with good precision without being too hard. The build-in pressure sensor, which has a visible indicator as well, helped make sure I was not trying too hard and making things worse. Also, being a smart toothbrush with Bluetooth connectivity, real time feedback can be had via the Sonicare app. The app itself is simple to use and quite helpful in keeping track of brushing routines, but the necessity of an account is cumbersome.
There are 4 modes of operation: Clean, White+, Gum health, and Deep clean+. I typically use the Clean mode everyday, with occasional use of the Gum health mode. The Deep clean+ felt a bit too overpowering for my teeth, even though for every mode there are 3 levels of intensity to play around with. From my experience, for regular users, one or the other mode will definitely work.
Overall, the Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart 9300 seems to be a smart investment for those looking for a high-tech toothbrush to enhance their dental hygiene routine, with the caveat that it may be more costly than other options.

I first want to mention that we have used a Sonicare toothbrush for many years, so we are accustomed to the way it works. This model has some noticeable and significant changes from older versions. First, let's address the hardware. The power button now requires a deeper "push" into the case to turn it on. My first few uses I kept catching my thumbnail on the case, stopping me from pressing deep enough. My nails are kept trimmed as most men do, so nothing excessive. The older models had a simple base that the main body simply sat on for charging, with a short pin extending from the base to hold it in place. This model has a new two piece base, with a molded glass holder that fits the shape of the body of the brush. Since it must be aligned correctly to slip in, it's not as simple to position it. Why the glass piece, I have no idea. It's a change for change sake. And there's nothing to hold a brush head if they are changed for a different user.
This model uses "smart" brush heads, meaning the generic brush heads I use won't communicate with the base unit so there's no brushing history contained in the app. These brush heads cost (depending on the style of brush) from $10-15 each. Sonicare brushes have always been expensive, but this is really a lot. I'll get into more detail about what they are supposed to provide later.
How well does it brush? It's a Sonicare, so it does an excellent job of maintaining tooth and gum health. Compared to my older model, it seems to be a hair less aggressive, meaning it doesn't seem to scrub quite as hard. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, and only my next dental cleaning appointment will tell if it's doing better or worse. I did notice one thing the first time I used it. Sonicare devices have a timer built in to tell you when to move to a different section of the mouth. Previous models had 30 seconds per section, with the mouth divided into four sections. This model has shortened the timer to 20 seconds, and now has six sections for brushing. You still end up with a 2 minute total timer, but it's a change for established users. The app shows which section you should be brushing during each section.
Ah yes, the app. The Sonicare uses Bluetooth to link to your device for tracking your brushing. And in my opinion it's next to useless for us. When I first set the app up, I wanted to explore the app before I permitted it to monitor my use. Except it wouldn't let me. When I went through the setup procedure, I reached the point it asked to monitor my use. It had a selection of "not now", but clicking that simply took me back one step. There was no way to bypass that permission and actually get to the app, so I was forced to allow it. The "smart" brush head can tell the app if you're moving your brush too quickly or pressing too hard. The app also maintains a history of your brushing, which in theory might be a good thing.
Now, someone at Philips should have realized that it's possible/likely that more than one person would be using the toothbrush, and simply change brush heads for each person. That's what my wife and I have done as long as we've used an electric toothbrush. But the app doesn't have any method of tracking multiple users, so if I looked at the history I would see her use and mine mixed together. Even if I thought the app provided value, that omission makes it essentially useless for us. The app does alert you if you're moving the brush too quickly around your teeth, and that is good information if you're not accustomed to using a toothbrush like this. But that's the only value I can see in the app. I was hoping it might allow modifying the timer and number of zones within the mouth, but no such luck.
This is still a good Sonicare toothbrush, and we will continue using it for years. However, we will be continuing our use of generic tooth brush heads, and not be concerned with anything the app provides. If it's going to be used by only one person, the app could have some value for monitoring your brushing. Just remember you will need the device you install the app on nearby with the app open, or you won't track any of your use. My phone is normally about 10 feet away in another room, and it never connected to the Sonicare if it wasn't in the bathroom with me.
Superior brushing, real-time feedback and coaching

This model is light years ahead of my last Sonicare 2100 brush. The base of the brush is now flush and lights up to let you know when you are doing something wrong, like scrubbing. The brush sits in a thick glass base or a thick drinking glass on top of the charging base to charge. The glass makes cleanup easy.
You can pick from four dental goals, Clean, Whitening, Gum Health, and Deep Cleaning. The brush has three levels of intensity to pick from. Start off slow and work your way up.
This brush links to an app via Bluetooth to help maximize your results. The app includes some concise videos to get you started on how to hold the brush, use it to best clean your teeth, and other topics.
The app has a map of a mouth you can display during brushing to guide you to move along to each section of your mouth to efficiently brush your teeth. While brushing, the motor will also momentarily pause the brushing every 30 seconds as a signal to move on to the next area to clean.
The app provides real time feedback and coaching to improve your technique and ensure you meet the goal of the program you set. To do this the brush has sensors to tell the app its position, attitude, and the pressure being exerted.
I’ve had two Sonicare brushes, read the manuals and the app has still helped improve my technique and timing. This is now my third and best Sonicare brush. The different brush programs help you to meet your goals today and when they may change later. There are three different brush heads included for different goals. At the time I got this, Phillips will send you a free brush head when you register.
This is on the more expensive side for a toothbrush, but it’s a much more capable brush. The extra brush heads help defray the upfront cost some. If you feel that your brushing could be better, real-time feedback, tips, and coaching may be worth it. Anything to keep the dentist’s drill away. Since I started using Sonicare brushes, my hygienist has noticed. My dental cleanings at the dentist are less intense and faster.

To start, there is nothing I dislike about this toothbrush, as a standalone product it's pretty good. however, there are a few things that competitors have that I like better.
Let's start with the accessories - this one really stands out. The ability to charge it in the provided glass is a great idea and keeps your area looking clean and neat. Others, particularly ones that are black, can get pretty dirty with residual toothpaste build-up on the charging stand
Aesthetics and feel - Again this is a really nice looking toothbrush and it fits the hand really well and has a pretty good balance- for me personally, I like a round head brush as compared to the oval shape of this one but that really is more of a personal opinion based on how tight my mouth is at the back molars.
As far as cleaning/function - it seems to do a good job, at least as far as I can tell. I'm not a dentist and they never seem to be happy with the amount of cleaning you do 😊 but that being said it does seem to clean the same as others on the market. I would have liked to see a few more cleaning options but the ones that are there will suffice for most people. Also, it comes with two different brush heads, and I could not tell any real difference between the two. The vibe and auto shut-off let you know where you are in the bush cycle
Connecting and app - I did not have any issues with connections either in setup or subsequent connection - it worked flawlessly. As for the app, there are some nice features, like it tracks the number of uses on the brush head - even if you don't connect to the app when you brush. It also has some nice guides to help you clean however the main one takes 4 mins and the brush auto shuts off after two. Overall this is probably the weakest part of my experience.
Charging - I used this brush for a week without charge and had no problems also it easily charges
overnight. I'm sure that will change over time but no indication that there would be any issues if you simply drop it in the charge glass when you are done - it should be ready for the next brushing cycle.
Overall - it's there nothing major to complain about. There are a few areas that could use improvement but nothing that is a showstopper for me. If it had a differently shaped head, I might be pressed to find something I didn't like and that is just a personal preference.

I never knew I needed a toothbrush with an app, but this one has it. The app guides you how fast to move the brush, shows which part of your mouth to use it on, and monitors how much pressure to apply. All very useful as I discovered I was originally moving the brush head around too quickly. The app also lets you set brushing goals, and gives you brushing factoids. I didn't find the goals or factoids useful. You can use the toothbrush without the app as well.
A manual toothbrush is no match for this. The Sonicare leaves my mouth feeling cleaner, especially in the back side of my mouth where there’s little room to actively move a manual brush.
It’s harder to compare, however, whether this is significantly better or not than rotating head electric brushes. One of the touted benefits is that sonic technology forces liquid in between teeth, thereby reducing plaque better. Search hard enough on the web and you’ll find conflicting conclusions on this claim. All of them, however, do a good job on gingivitis.
I also have a Sonicare that’s not a DiamondClean series like this one. It seems to take a little more effort to get my teeth as clean as the DiamondClean, even when using the same head.
Other features may help you decide if this is the right brush for you:
- Sonic technology is quieter than a rotating brush head. I had dropped my previous Sonicare brush and something internal came loose. Though the brush still worked, it rattled and annoyed me to no end. I was very glad to get this replacement.
- The brush head is in a long form and designed to brush by following the gum lines. I like that better than needing to pay attention to each tooth individually.
- I like using the app because it makes sure I’ve properly cleaned each section of my mouth. It also warns me if I’m applying too much pressure.
- The box comes with a travel case and a glass cup. The cup can hold your toothbrush on your countertop, and allows the charger to charge your brush.

This toothbrush is simple to setup, with or without the app. There are two options for the charging stand whether to have the brush sit in a cup or straight up on a stand. The battery supposedly lasts for 28 brushing cycles. I have not hit that point yet, but I can definitely say I charged it the night I opened it and then left on vacation. The brush is working great, still on the first charge.
With the app open, my phone and brush instantly paired. The app has a map of the mouth with a timer to show how much time needs to be spent in each area. I really like that they have the mouth divided into six areas instead of four like my prior brushes. 20 seconds in each area is easier for me to handle. As a really impatient person, I get bored in 30 seconds. The shorter periods obviously go by faster. While the app is not required to be open, the brush records brushing sessions and seamlessly syncs with the app whenever I want to see how I am doing. I purposely waited three days to sync the data. It took a few seconds to update and show me my brushing data.
The brush has a 14 day build up feature for first time users so they can get used to the power. I chose to skip that and try the full experience so I had enough time to write my review. To say the least, this brush is powerful! But, my teeth have never been cleaner other than the moment I walk out of the dentist’s office. They look and feel great! I have a permanent retainer that loves to catch bits and pieces of food. This brush is easily cleaning it where my manual brushes struggle. Overall, I finish brushing and my mouth feels amazing!
At the moment, my only complaint is that the included travel case does not close completely. They probably made it that way to let a wet brush dry out, but it also means any dust or dirt from my carryon bag can easily get into the case. I would prefer a tight seal to keep the brush clean. Otherwise, I am really happy. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.
