This chopper does a great job at what it is designed to do so what more can one ask for! It comes with two different blade accessories they describe as Chopper and MultiChopper. The MultiChopper blade is purple which matches the purple basket one must use with this blade. That makes it easy to remember what parts go together. By design food items will fall through the purple basket once they are chopped to a certain size so it makes the end result very uniform and nice. Such a simple idea, but it works very well. So far I have tried this blade with onions and bell pepper. The manual states this blade will work for onions, garlic, cheese, raw and cooked vegetables, cooked eggs, fruits, etc...
The Chopper blade is black and is used without the purple basket. The manual states one can use this blade with nuts, raw meat, onions, hard cheese, boiled eggs, garlic, herbs, dry bread, etc...
I would not describe this chopper as mini. See the picture I posted to see comparison to standard water bottle. However, I think that is a good thing because it can hold a decent amount of food for chopping. The upper, black motor portion of the chopper comes off so storage in small places should be easy. Parts go together and come apart quite easily. Cleaning is also quick and easy. Both of these aspects will give me the incentive to use this chopper.
My only suggestion to Philips would be to modify the manual layout to move the picture/assembly diagram that is on the inside flap of the manual to a single page that is within the main instruction pages. This flap in the manual is probably the most useful diagram and it is kind of hidden away under a flap that some users may not open.

A great time-saver for the kitchen

My grandmother likes to cook. She watches afternoon cooking shows and then tries to replicate what those celebrity chefs have made. It brings her enjoyment and that makes me smile. That being said, she doesn’t grip kitchen tools as well as she used to and so she tries to avoid some recipes that require fine chopping of ingredients. This Multichopper from Philips seemed like a great gift for her. The Multichopper is provides perfectly diced onions (and other vegetables) in mere seconds. A job that once took my grandmother 30 minutes or more to intricately chop up vegetables can now only take a fraction of the time.
The device arrived in a nicely branded package from Philips. It was well padded inside it the box and the chopper came in just a couple of main pieces. I really like simple assembly options for equipment like this so I was pleased that there weren’t a lot of smaller parts.
The chopper comes with two different blade options — the ChopDrop blade and the regular chopper blade. Both blades fit into the motor unit loosely. I thought they might snap into place, but they don’t. They simply rest there. I was actually quite impressed with how well all the pieces fit together.
Either of the blades rest on a post that is located in the chopper bowl. The big difference between the two is that one is designed to chop inside the MultiChopper basket and the other is designed to chop outside the basket. In fact, when you use the regular chopping blade, you can’t even use the basket. The instruction manual states that the MultiChopper is intended to chop onions, garlic, cheese, raw and cooked vegetables, cooked eggs and fruits. The regular chopper is intended for use with nuts, raw meat, onions, hard cheese, boiled eggs, garlic, herbs, and dry bread. It’s a bit more of an all around blade. The device comes with a recipe book, which is a great help getting started.
Because the MultiChopper comes apart so easily, it’s pretty easy to clean. The only part you really have to be cautious about is the blades because when you are cleaning them, they are 100% exposed and you could easily cut yourself because they are so sharp.
When it came time to testing out the MultiChopper, I brought my grandma into the kitchen so she could see it work. We chopped up mini sweet peppers - one red and one orange - first using the MultiChopper blade and basket. I cut the tops off of the peppers and scooped out the seeds. Then I dropped each pepper into the basket whole. Once the motor was situated on the bowl and I pressed down, the peppers were chopped up within seconds. Next, we chopped up a quarter of a green pepper with the regular chopping blade. Again, the pepper was diced within just a few seconds and some of her meal prep was done within seconds.
The peppers we chopped up were a very fine dice. While this will work for most of our uses, I do wish there was a setting for size of cut so that you could end up with larger chunks if you want them. The Philips MultiChopper is a fabulous addition to our kitchen. It will save time and frustration so that we enjoy our meals more.

A simple idea that has amazing results

This is a very simple, yet convenient chopper, and it performs incredibly well. All of the electric choppers I've used in the past tended to pulverize a certain amount of whatever was being chopped, but this chopper avoids this by suspending the food in a basket with holes in the bottom, then as the pieces reach a certain size, they fall through the holes into a blade-free collection bowl. It's a simple idea that leads to amazing results.
Unpacking the chopper and performing the initial cleaning took about 10 minutes. Initially, I tried the unit on some green, red, and yellow peppers that I wanted to add to hamburger. After pre-slicing three peppers so they would fit in the basket, the unit chopped them in under 30 seconds. Not only was the chopper fast, but the pieces were all relatively the same size. The uniformity of size was probably helped by my 'pulse' chopping, but that was simple since the motor is activated by just pressing down on the top of the chopper. In addition to the blade you use for chopping with the basket, there is a blade that can be used without the basket for chopping things into smaller pieces or even puree. After each use, cleaning the unit was quick and easy.
All in all, I think this chopper is great; it's fast, simple to use, doesn't over chop, and cleans up in a snap. If you're looking for a chopper, try this one.

I have had the Philips Viva Collection Multi Chopper for about 3 weeks to fully test it out. Overall my score is about 3 1/2 stars. I know it can't chop everything perfectly, but my results were less than what I expected, especially when it's priced at $69.99 as of my review date.
The food that I tried in the Philips Viva Collection Multi Chopper were walnuts, pecans, onions, carrots, semi frozen green beans and tomatoes. While the nuts and onion came out nearly perfect using the purple basket along with the three blade attachment, the other items I tried, carrots, semi frozen green beans and carrots did nothing except cut a few (10-12) pieces then nothing else. I used carrots cut into 2 1/2 - 3 inches long and not a large diameter. The semi frozen green beans were cut into smaller pieces that came that way in the bag. The tomatoes were medium sized and quartered.
Using the purple basket, it seemed like all it was doing was rapidly spinning the food around and very, very little chopping was happening. To me it seemed that the problem was with the bottom blade on the 3 blade attachment. It seems too short. I think if it was linger and angled up a bit, it would chop/cut more effectively. Many times the carrots would get impaled on the blades, then I would have to stop and remove the carrots from the blades.
I also tried chopping the carrots and semi frozen green beans using the 2 blade attachment. While this really cut up those foods, it cut them way too small. I attached a picture of the carrots and green beans so you can see how small it chops.
On the positive side. The Philips Viva Collection Multi Chopper seems to be very well made. The part that has the motor is somewhat on the heavy side and for me that means that it has a good sized motor that won't bog down when you're chopping a large quantity of food. And if it were a dinky motor, it may burn out faster too. The clear base has measurements listed on it for up to 2 cups which is just under the purple basket.
The Philips Viva Collection Multi Chopper comes with two attachments. A three blade attachment for use with the purple basket to (hopefully) chop your food into roughly the same size pieces. And a two blade attachment to use without the purple basket to chop food into tiny pieces. All of the blades on both attachments are razor sharp.
There is also a small 22 page booklet that has recipes ranging from salsa, guacamole, honey and lemon roasted chicken and more. Even though I did not have the best of luck chopping some foods, overall this is a pretty good addition to your kitchen. I just wish it was a bit cheaper in price.

I have a busy schedule so I like devices that help you make things quickly and easy. This Philips Multi Chopper does its job perfectly and it is a lifesaver to have in your kitchen. The first thing I wanted to chop with this device is onions. This chopper cuts onion into small pieces and I didn’t end up with blended onion like other choppers. Normally, other choppers you end up with onion that looks like-paste; and this is because most choppers have a blade at the bottom which overly chops the onion into a paste. Philips chopper design solved this issue with their chop drop technology. This design chops onion on the top canister which has the blade on the top part of the machine, once the onion is chopped it drops to the bottom of the container where it doesn’t get chopped again. The Chop Drop Technology is great for onions because you will not get paste-like onions. For harder chopping vegetable like carrots, I remove the top canister and I use a different blade. The carrots came out perfectly chopped for my cooking needs. The device is very simple to use, place the vegetable inside with the appropriate container and blade, place the cover motor, and finally the cover down to chop. This just turns the chopper on without the need to press a switch.
Cleanup was not hard to do because the device design prevents food from getting stuck. It was easy to rinse and wash, no issue in this process.
This will be an extreme lifesaver if you need to chop for a large family event. If you hate how some chopper leaves your onions with a paste-like texture, then you will love this Philips MultiChopper with Chop Drop Technology. The most important thing is that my wife loves this new chopper. “Happy wife, happy life”

Never chop onions or veggies again!

This thing is great, especially when you are preparing food for a bunch of people coming over. It's a great time saver! Philip calls the technology "Chop drop", appropriate because it literally chops and then drops the veggies through holes. The result is fantastic (check out my photo of those chopped onions - all without crying too!
Don't stop with onions though, I've chopped carrots (baby ones are great because you don't need to pre-portion them for the top bin) and it worked just as good. When operating your veggie goes in the top bin with the blade with a lid.The lid and everything fit together really well and are easy to put together. You then set the motor component on top and apply pressure to turn it on and get chopping! The motor part is not too heavy and doesn't require too much pressure, so just about everybody should be able to use it! If you do need a traditional setup, Philips also includes a traditional food processor blade that just cuts everything up. I made some guac for a party using this and it came out perfect.
Clean up is easy, I usually just disassemble it into the 4 parts and quickly rinse them with soap/water before anything has a chance to dry on them. That will help save time in the long run as well.
My only real complaint is that it is kinda large, a drawback of requiring separated chambers for un-chopped and chopped veggies to achieve the "Drop Chop" result, so it's forgivable.
Overall, a very straightforward, yet versatile appliance that does exactly what it's advertised to do - chop!

As stated in the summary. I have no knife skills. My cuts are always thick to thin and never uniform. That makes dicing an onion difficult also. This chopper just works. I thought it was going to be like the manual Kitchenaid chopper I have. Veggies just bounce around and never chop. No so. I unpacked the unit, ran everything except the black motor housing under hot water. I then reassembled the pieces, slotted bowl into clear container, then blade being careful not to cut myself on the 3 blades. I took half an onion and quartered it. Not to tough, even for me and placed the pieces in the purple slotted bowl. I capped it with the black cap and attached the motor. Plugged it in and pressed down. It took 20-45 seconds and I had onions like you see at any fast food prep station. 90% of the onions were in the cup and the rest either didn't fall or were stuck to the cap. The hardest thing is getting all the pieces to come out of the clear cup for use. I'm sure I could have used a spoon or spatula, but the cup has 4 indentations that make that a bit difficult, so I just used my clean fingers. I rinsed all the pieces in hot water again, used a bit of Dawn on each piece, assembled and stored it in the pantry. As long as the clean up and assembly are this easy, I'd recommend this to anyone that had difficulty making small cubes (bits) of veggies.

The Viva Multi Chopper does a great job finely chopping onions, cheese, and meats. The chopper is easy to assemble and clean. It comes with two blade kits and is very easy to use. Once assembled, you just press down on the top of the unit to chop the ingredients inside.
I didn’t realize how tall this would be or how much space it would take up. I like it, I just wish it was a bit smaller as it stands about ten inches tall when assembled and has a diameter of five inches.
But it does making chopping a breeze. It will be incredibly useful for upcoming holiday meals.

This multi-chopper arrived in 3 basic parts plus paperwork. (1) the motor, (2) the ChopDrop blade installed in the MultiChopper basket and clear Chopper bowl with the MultiChopper lid on top, and (3) the regular blade with a protective covering over the blade.
After unpacking the parts and reading the instructions, I washed all except the motor with liquid dishwashing soap and set them on a drying mat to air dry. I could have put those pieces in the dishwasher (the photo in the manual shows that the bottom rack is ok to use for this).
My main complaint with hand chopping is my eyes burn when I chop onions. My second complaint is the time it takes to hand chop food. So my ideal situation for this would be to stop my eyes from burning and get the job done quickly. The manual said to cut the food into 3/4 inch cubes or smaller. That would have been a deal breaker for me, so I decided to test the chopper with larger pieces. Otherwise, I know I wouldn’t use it. I cut an onion in half and cut one of the halves into 4 wedges. (This meant 1 cut to cut it in half and 3 more on one of the halves.) Then I decided to try the ChopDrop blade first. I set the MultiChopper basket in the Chopper bowl and then put in the ChopDrop blade, put in my 4 onion wedges, and covered that all with the Chopper lid. I set the motor onto of everything and plugged it in. Then I pressed down on the top of the motor. My 1/2 onion was completely chopped in just a few seconds. It chopped it much faster than I had expected. Since the Chopper bowl is clear, you can see your progress as you chop.
I decided to try the other blade for the other half of the onion. Three more cuts to get that onion half into 4 wedges. I removed the Chopper lid, Chopper basket, and ChopDrop blade and installed the regular blade. I dropped my 4 onion pieces into the clear Chopper bowl and placed the Chopper lid on top. Then I put the motor on top of that and pressed down. This time, the blade chopped most, but not all, of the onion. I went back to using the basket and ChopDrop blade to finish it and that worked.
All of the chopped pieces were of uniform size and you can see about what size that is by looking at my photos. I could easily see that using the ChopDrop blade will always produce that size because the pieces will fall through the holes in the baskets after they reach about that size. However, with the regular blade, since the blade is in the bottom of the Chopper bowl along with the food, you can chop for longer periods of time to get the pieces smaller or you could also chop it for a shorter length of time for larger pieces.
The manual says the ChopDrop blade is designed to cut onions, garlic, cheese, raw and cooked vegetables, cooked eggs, and fruits, etc. into small and evenly sized pieces. The regular blade is designed to cut nuts, raw meat, onion, hard cheese, boiled eggs, garlic, herbs, dry bread, etc.
The Multi-Chopper also comes with a recipe book with a few recipes for salsa, guacamole, hummus, and one or two more.
Clean-up was easy. I opted not to use the dishwasher again, but I could have. I rinsed the pieces (except the motor) to get the food off of them and swished them around in a sink with warm soapy water. I could have also used a dish brush but it just didn’t need that. Just be careful not to drop your blades in a sink of soapy water because when you reach in to retrieve them, you won’t be able to see the blades and they are extremely sharp. The manual recommends that you never touch the blades. I laid mine on a drying mat to dry, but I could have hand dried them with a dish towel being careful to only run the towel along the top and bottom sides of the blades and not the sharp edges. The manual also reminds you not to put away the Multi-chopper unless all of the pieces are dry. When storing the Multi-Chopper, reassemble it with the ChopDrop blade and store the regular blade with its protective cover in place.
Summary:
This multi-chopper will definitely replace my hand chopping for onions and other time-consuming items. It does a great job and does it much more quickly than I could do. The pieces are uniform in size as well.

======= Summary =======
The Philips MultiChopper is a total win~! It has an attractive design, is easy to use & clean, has a powerful and silent motor, and chops very, very well. Brilliant.
======= Design =======
The Philips MultiChopper is an attractive and very well-designed machine. It is relatively slim, about as tall as a typical coffee brewer, light, and all its parts are well-thought out, fit together very well and easily, is easy to assemble and dissemble, and a pleasure to handle and use. The fit and finish is superb. It was also very easy to clean up afterwards. I really enjoyed using the MultiChopper.
======= Performance =======
I used the MultiChopper to finely cut the dreaded and tear-jerking Onion. :D After peeling off the skin and cutting it into smaller chunks, I was able to stuff all the onion pieces inside the purple basket. I then placed the black lid on top, placed the motor head on top of the lid, then pressed down on the motor head to begin chopping. The motor silently whirred into action and I immediately began to see chopped onion pieces being generated and collected inside the container. So easy, so fast. Awesome~!
The onion was chopped using one of its two included blades - the MultiChop Blade. It is designed for softer materilas such as raw & cooked vegetables, boiled eggs, onions, and garlic.
There is a second blade called the Regular Blade and that one is used to chop harder materials such as nuts, dry bread, and raw meat. I cut some carrots using the Regular Blade and it too got chopped up nicely and evenly.
Both blades did a fantastic job chopping and cutting through their intended "audiences."
The performance was so good and so swift, I can't imagine there being a better chopper out there.
======= Is it any good? Is it a good buy? =======
Yes, most definitely. With its powerful and quiet motor, excellent chopping performance, and its ease of use & cleanup, I highly recommended it. It will save lots of time and increase your efficiency in the kitchen.

Did it's job - one flaw

I would like to start by saying that this chopper absolutely does it's job. It chops and dices many foods so they can be used in your favorite recipe. It dices onions perfectly without all of the tears...unless you tear up when pre-cutting the onion first. That leads me to my only issue with the chopper. The compartment where you place the food to be chopped is very small. You are supposed to pre-cut the food into small pieces so that it will fit in the chopper. I know it saves you time by dicing for you, but you are already taking out a cutting board and knife. If you plan on this appliance to reduce dirty dishes then this is not for you. You will actually have more dishes as the blade and chopper bowl have to be cleaned as well. So I suppose any time you save from chopping your own foods you will put into the new dishes.
Overall the chopper works very well for what it is intended. I was able to make a salsa that tasted great with all ingredients being consistent and just gave it an overall nicer texture when eating. I also make a home made guacamole that was different than any other I had made before. It is a very high quality chopper and I would in fact recommend it to anyone who wants to consistently chop and dice very fast.

Value vs Easy of Use

I want to start off saying I'm not much of a cooker but the few things I do this does help.
Now saying that let's start with what you get. The base station, the two container compartment system, add two blades and a topper to seal it up. From my above statement the one and only problem I ran into was ease of use. Someone like me who has never used something to cut up my onions etc. before I spent a good amount of time trying to figure out how to change the blades and their purpose. This should be the case, I would have greatly appreciate a simple pamphlet that said oh by the way here's how you build your lego creation. It made me feel dumb but once I got past that I was thanking my lucky stars that I got this. Performance is strong but it just makes things that normally would take me a few minutes with my hand feeling abused after to a few seconds and me singing songs while I'm cutting them up.
I would say for the price of this unit it's easily a wonderful addition to the collection. Even cleaning it was simple which if you can't tell I enjoy simplicity.
Thanks for reading my review and hope it helped.

Quick and Consistent Countertop Chopping

We tried to put our countertop on a diet. Then we started using this Philips Multi-chopper, and found it was in such continuous use, we assigned it a precious counter spot. It’s really a nifty design. The clear receiving cup can be configured to accept just the chopper blade. Place the black cap that aligns the blade, and go. Place the motor assembly on top of the cup and press down. The chopper yields VERY small bits, just larger than a mince. If instead you want a slightly larger sized product, swap out the chopper, and swap in the multi-chopper. Place the multi-chopper blade first into the basket, and place both into the clear cup. We use it to prep carrots, onions, peppers and some other veggies for our salads. The multi-chopper with the basket yields a consistently sized, 1/4” or so small sized pieces.
You know that pained look you get when you ask someone to “prep the veggies, and the smaller the better”? It’s a thing of the past. And the time it takes is seconds, not 10-15 minutes. Even adding the cleanup, the Multi Chopper is much faster than most of us. Because the motor assembly has no contact with food, it needs no more than a wipe down. The Philips Multi Chopper is a nice addition to our kitchen gadgets.

Great chopper for small quantities...

I love this chopper. The ChopDrop technology is really cool. In the past, I have used choppers from other brands like Black & Decker etc. But with all of them I never got this kind of results (I have mostly used it to chop onions so far). The other choppers either chopped onions almost into a paste or didn't cut them evenly i.e. leaving some pieces too big while some were chopped to pulp. In this case, as the pieces keep dropping, it cuts them pretty much evenly and does not over cut at all.
The motor is pretty powerful and I enjoy the time saving that I get with it (and no-tears :)). It's very easy to clean and dishwasher safe. It comes with two different blades and can cut cheese and meet.
The other thing that I have also tried it for is to make paste and Guac and it has produced excellent results for both of these activities.
I haven't given it 5 stars because I still need to cut most of the vegetables to smaller pieces before I can throw them in there. As a result, the time savings are not all that great and sometimes when I have already cut veggies to small pieces, I just go ahead and cut them further (rather than taking the chopper out, plugging it in and later washing it etc).
Overall, I like this chopper a lot because of the above reasons. It would have been great if could have handled a bit bigger size veggies.

I got this to replace my old mini chopper and I am very happy with how well it chops and how easy it was to use. Easy to clean and set up. In the past, I have often used an automatic chopper to make my own salsa and cut vegetables for a stir fry or salad. After a few uses, I really like this multi-chopper by Philips. It is very easy to set up and use right out of the package, and you can cut ingredients quickly and effortlessly. As is fairly common such unit, this chopper comes with a dual chopping blade and an automatic speed function. Once you put food inside the chopper all you do is push down and the blade starts to cut.
The unique feature of this unit is the “ChopDrop” technology. Essentially, the chopper has two sections separated by a honeycomb-pattern shield. This shield holds ingredients in the top chamber while three blades start cutting. Once the ingredients are cut down sufficiently, they drop down into the bottom section away from the blades. This is a simple but effective mechanism that helps prevent over chopping and results in more evenly sized pieces.
So far, I have used this chopper for tomatoes, cheese, carrots, onions, and bell peppers. All have come out perfectly cut, so I am definitely pleased with the results. This is worth a try if you do a lot of cooking as it can really cut down and simply your preparation time in the kitchen.

I couldn't be happier with this chopper and it outdoes my Ninja in terms of chopping up things like onions, carrots, potatoes, fruit or other veggies/fruits so they're chopped just right and even while not too much. This to me is probably the best part of this chopper. How this one is different is that it has a basket to drop pieces in to the cup once they are chopped the right size, which is awesome as it chops just right every time. Then switch out the blades easy to get a fine chop like any other chopper can do. Has plenty of power to quickly chop up whatever you throw at it too!
The cup features a measure on the side so it's easy to measure to exactly what you need. I'd say this is an essential kitchen accessory and especially for anyone (like me) that finds chopping up ingredients time consuming and inconvenient.
Pros:
Sharp blades
Easy to use
Versatile
Lots of power
Looks great
Measure marks on the cup
Size is just right

The Ultimate Chopper!

I didn't expect much from the Philips Multi Chopper, thinking it was simply an ordinary vegetable chopper, and that it wouldn't do any better than using a knife and chopping board, but boy was I proven wrong. This one kitchen appliance truly impressed me! It turned chopping vegetables into fine pieces from what was once considered a time consuming event into a simple few seconds of effortless wonder.
The first thing I tried chopping was a carrot. It was the hardest vegetable in my kitchen at the time I was testing the chopper. I cut the carrot into smaller pieces and placed them into the purple colored chopping basket with the “chopdrop” blade inserted. Then I plugged in the power to the black colored motor unit and pressed it on top of the container. The chopper instantaneously went to work and cut the carrot into fine pieces in a matter of seconds. The bits were perfectly sized as the basket has holes which allow the chopped bits to fall through when they reach a certain size. This would have taken me a very long time to accomplish with a traditional knife and cutting board and I wouldn't have been able to cut it as fine as the Philips Multi Chopper did.
Next, I wanted to see what the second blade could do. Philips calls this blade the “regular” chopper blade. Well, let me tell you this is no regular blade. I thought the carrot was finely chopped using the chopdrop blade. The regular blade cut the pieces into even finer bits. Any finer would be pulverized carrot powder.
I had a lot of fun just chopping up nuts, dicing onions without shedding tears (except tears of joy!), and even grinding down meats. It really does chop all sorts of vegetables, fruits, nuts, cheeses, and meats. Philips even includes a small recipe booklet that shows you how to prepare salsa, guacamole, hummus, pesto, and mint chutney as starter recipes.
Clean up is a breeze. Wipe down the motor unit. Wash the container, basket, and blades in your dishwasher or simply hand wash with some soap and water. Be careful though as the blades are sharp.
The Philips Multi Chopper belongs to the Philips Viva Collection of kitchen appliances. I have never heard of this line before, but if they are anything like the quality and ease of use like the Multi Chopper, I would definitely start paying attention to what else they have to offer.
In summary, I think that if you spend a lot of time in your kitchen chopping food into small pieces, this Philips Multi Chopper will make your job much easier and faster than you could possibly imagine. I highly recommend it. Easily a 5 star product.

Finally I got one of these electric choppers, I was tired of crying when I would chop up onions and cilantro! This chops everything up in seconds and is very handy in the kitchen. Makes cooking more fun since it chops everything really quick. My only complains is that it doesn’t come with accessories for the price.
Pros:
Chops quick
No more tears
Holds a lot of product
Easy to clean
Cons:
No extra accessories
Heavy
Takes up a lot of counter top space

I really like this chopper. It's fast and easy to set up and does a great job. I've used similar choppers in the past and really like this style. It has a huge number of uses.
First off, the size is really nice. A lot of this style chopper is just too small to be of much use. This one has a good size collection cup. It has two ways of chopping, a blade accessory, and a separate blade and basket accessory. The simple blade spins at the bottom of cup and allows you to pretty much fill the cup and blast through whatever you fill the cup with. The second method utilizes a special basket insert with a different blade attachment. The blades sit inside the basket and chop whatever is inside. When the pieces are small enough to fit through the holes in the basket, they drop down into the collection cup. Very uniform sized pieces, and it all takes only seconds. I was able to cut a large onion into six pieces and fit three at a time in the basket. Again, it only takes seconds to chop up whatever is in the basket.
The motor is housed in the top section and when everything is assembled, all you have to do is press down on the motor assembly to activate it. This makes it nice for pulsing your chops. You can hold it down if you just want the motor to run continuously. Everything disassembles quickly without having to unscrew any of the parts, they just lift apart. Rinse everything off and put it in the dishwasher on the top rack and you're done. This chopper did a really nice job on anything I threw in it. Really well made and a good solid feel. Nicely done Phillips!

This chopper has some interesting functions - While it chops and dices vegetables as expected, we've also used its specialty blade to chop up block cheese for recipes.
This chopper does a great job, is marginally noisy (a product of its size and materials used to manufacture it), and requires that any vegetables or objects going in for chopping/dicing/mincing be cubed up into 2"x2" pieces before prep. To some, that means pre-chopping then the machine's just doing the fine work - Seems duplicative, but that's what larger food processors are for. This is for getting vegetables and other ingredients fined down to appropriate size for mixing, soups, etc. It does this job well. I was delighted that it worked for cheeses as we recently broke our trusty cheese grater and a recipe called for shredded block sharp cheddar. We weren't ready. The Viva saved the day.
Overall this is a great processor with lots of uses for its size and very simple cleanup. Definitely a good addition to the kitchen arsenal in the mid-range.
