I watched Pinocchio as a young child before vhs/dvd/bluerays and you either had to go to the theater or hope to see it on *Sunday Disney Movie special* and I was one of the lucky I even got to see it on a color TV as well at a movie theater "Thank you Uncle Jesse". I rented it from Blockbusters on VHS when my son was a child. I was thrilled when I bought it on Bluray and am still waiting to watch it with my grandson. This movie spans 5 generations in my family. And each time clearer than the last. Thank you Disney for sharing such a classic.

    Great Disney Classic

This is one of the best, in a cavalcade of great animated classics that Disney created. While the book itself was rather snarky and somewhat sarcastic, in the movie, Pinocchio was transformed from a sarcastic little brat into a creature who was often inveigled into large and costly errors because of his innocence. The fact that he didn't know any better was actually at times a saving grace as he and Jimminy Cricket found themselves in real danger, thanks to Honest John and his cohort, Gideon. Stromboli the puppet-master lived up to his name as the thundering conniving man who had enslaved Pinocchio into his service, and the chubby, cheerful, Coachman was a truly terrifying being that used the power of an island to turn bad boys into donkeys for profit, a clear warning that the face of evil isn't always an unpleasant one. Seeing the unfortunate Lampwick turning into a donkey was and still is a terrifying sight to this day as was the final confrontation Pinocchio had with Monstro the Whale, a huge creature capable of swallowing whole ships, in order to rescue his father, who had been looking for him, giving his all to become a real boy. This is one of the true gems in classic animation, and one not to be missed.....

Disney has restored this all-time classic to its original brilliance. The universal themes of love, family, friendship and good vs. evil make this educational and enjoyable. Yes, there are some quite scary scenes and evil is shown for what it is. However, just as in most fairy tales, good triumphs over evil in the end. The story is told by Jiminy Cricket and the start of the movie is peaceful. He arrives at Geppetto's home where there are music boxes, toys, amazing clocks and a puppet who is just "all strings and joints." Geppetto is just painting on the finishing touches before he heads off to bed. The "cutest" black and white cat named Figaro adds warmth and amusement to the story. The sassy fish Cleo is a visual delight. As the woodcarver drifts off to sleep, he says: "Wouldn't it be nice if he was a real boy?" He then sends Figaro to open the window and sees a wishing star. He makes a wish and while he sleeps, the Blue Fairy brings the Marionette Pinocchio to life. He then must learn to have a conscience, so it is decided that Jiminy Cricket will be his guide so he will know what is good and what is evil.

    Classic Disney film

This was only the second animated feature film by Walt Disney, following Snow White. I replaced my VHS copy with this new blu-ray, and what a difference in picture and sound quality. It is especially noticeable when looking at the film clips from the movie highlighted in the "classic" special features. Disney Studios pioneered many new animation techniques in the late 1930's that were spotlighted in this film, but especially their technique using wavy glass to film the underwater sequences. The music is phenomenal, winning two Oscars, including "Best Music, Original Song" for "When You Wish Upon a Star," composed by Leigh Harline, with lyrics by Ned Washington. Cliff Edwards who voices Jiminy Cricket, Christian Rub as Geppetto (whose appearance the animators actually based the character on!), and Dickie Jones as Pinocchio were such inspired casting, I can't imagine anyone else in the roles.

What can be better than the original

I sometimes question buying essentially a high definition version of a cartoon movie - recently and newly created cartoon movies, maybe not so much. But there's no doubt in my mind, as with re-mastered Blu-Ray versions of movie classics (like Casablanca), that the re-rendering of movie classis, of any kind, cartoon or not, enriches the viewing experience, not to mention extending the quality of sound. With this rendition and the addition of extra material, this makes the classic telling of this story an important addition to any movie collection and, if you're a Grandparent, a joy for your grandchildren.

Disney's Signature Collection Blu-ray release of Pinocchio is very well done: more streamlined than the previous release, attractively packaged, and priced to own. Video and audio qualities are identical to the last release -- and they're great -- and the addition of several new supplements makes this a fine overall package. Recommended to Disney completionists and to those that picked up the old release but would like the digital copy. The added supplements by themselves are fine but aren't worth the full price of admission. It's obviously a must-buy for those that don't yet own the film on Blu-ray.

I had an old version of Pinocchio on VHS and of course, no longer use VHS videos. I enjoyed Pinocchio as a child and now I have children who are at the age where they appreciate the film as well. Disney has, of course, remastered the original copies of the older films and they did an excellent job with Pinocchio! The colors are brilliant, the sound has been remastered wonderfully well. It is a joy watching a puppet come to life with young children with the clear picture and sound. Get this Platinum Edition to watch many extras about the original film and making this special edition version as well.

Disney is releasing some of its classic and best loved animated feature length films in what it calls the Signature Series, which started with Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs and includes Beauty and the Beast's 25th Anniversary edition. The content of the feature is the same, although it is beautifully digitized for almost 3-D quality on home HD equipment. The big reason for buying this series, is the abundant extras that true Disney fans want and this series delivers!

Although many people would say that "Snow White" was Disney's Masterpiece, I would love to say that Pinocchio was the true Disney Masterpiece. The art is stunning, the story keeps moving ahead fairly quickly, and the "villain" was truly a Monster. The side trips to Stromboli's Puppet show and Pleasure Island reinforce the morality within the story.. The final trip to Monstro the Whale show the depth of the art. This is a movie I would highly recommend to anyone.

Pinocchio The Signature Collection bluray and dvd is an excellent addition to any fan’s library, that is if you have not got the release from 2009, for the audio and video are identical to the previous version, and the new supplements don’t add much. But still if Pinocchio is a film very dear to your heart, I suppose another dip could be out of the question!

A great classic remastered for the modern age. I was never a big fan of this movie in particular but I enjoyed it more watching it as an adult. They did an excellent job of remastering this by giving it a fresh coat of paint. I would recommend this to any Disney fan and I own them all. My advice would be to not forget the classics. We all love Tangled, Wreck it Ralph, Frozen etc....but don't forget to show your child the classic ones too. :)

I bought this film since I hadn't seen this film in many years and I wanted to see how well this film held up. The film has a good lesson regarding morality and also the innocence of childhood. The musical pieces were instantly familiar and brought back old memories. The picture and audio quality was superb on this release and this is a beautifully animated film. The film still holds up today and i thoroughly enjoyed re-watching this after so long.

Lightning fast delivery with safe packing. Discs were in perfect shape. Factory tight & no imperfections of any kind. Blu-ray version was incredible. It had vibrant colors & incredible clarity. Digital version the same with the ability to play it anywhere. Purchased for myself & future grandkids. Didn't have to wait to long as my neighbors just had twin boys. They should love it. Thank you Best Buy for great service & a fantastic movie.

This is more or less a re-release of the previous Platinum Edition, but it drops some things, and adds others. The film is a classic, and I'm sure requires very little more to be said about how groundbreaking it was, so I'll just add that the transfer is beautiful. This is a must-have for Disney fans that still collect films on discs, and missed their opportunity to grab the last Blu-ray before it went back into the vault.

The movie itself is beyond reproach, and this set has the vast majority of the now out-of-print Platinum Edition's special features, which is a nice touch (the Cine-Explore picture-in-picture that accompanied the commentary is the only notable loss). That said, if you're looking for the exclusive slipcover that Best Buy has, consider buying it in store instead of through mail, as I've had too many covers damaged that way.
