I've had multiple Denons for about 25 years. This is my first Pioneer Elite and I have to say that I am impressed. Don't hesitate to buy this, especially for the money.

    Great Receiver

I bought this back in Feb 2016. My toddlers destroyed my Samsung HT so I was researching for Receivers and decided that this was the one for the price. Lucky me, Best Buy had a openbox for $339. I couldn't pass this up so I snatched it up and works great!! It was brand new, nothing wrong. The app makes it easy to setup. I still have 3 speakers from my Samsung unit and they sound way better with this receiver then the original. It's 4K, 3D, compatible, 7.2, 2 zone, ipod, etc. Best investment yet. I see that its on sale now for $449. For that price, it's worth grabbing. You won't be disappointed.

This is my 3rd Pioneer Elite receivers. I had no issues with the previous two I owned. Only upgraded to keep up with technology. I upgraded my last one when I purchased a 3D tv 4 years ago, now I just purchased a new 4K tv and that's the reason for my upgrade now. I just love the way these receives work, very easy to use. and love the new build in wifi on the new receivers.

    Overshadowed By Yamaha RX-A760BL

This receiver has many very cool features. The most notable is the GUI style setting menu and the way the volume (in DBs) shows up on your TV when you adjust the receiver's volume. Very nice when you are used to having to divert your eyes to the receiver when adjusting the volume. I bought this receiver because it was the most feature-rich unit for the least amount of money due to the sale price, roughly $250 below MSRP. I was building a new speaker system from scratch for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X using the Definitive Technology BP-9040 series speakers, which by the way are amazing. I have traditionally used Yamaha receivers, for no particular reason other than that Yamaha was my first receiver purchase ages ago and I've never had much motivation to switch to a different brand before now. Once I installed this Pioneer receiver, I immediately got to work putting it through the extensive testing that is to be expected of any audiophile such as myself. I was impressed for about the first half of my testing, but slowly started noticing things that were slightly disappointing me progressively more and more. The smallest among them being that when this unit says, "Bluetooth", it does not mean you can pair your phone/tablet with the receiver and directly play music. It means (as far as I can tell since I did not try it) that the receiver will connect to other Bluetooth-enabled speakers for playing music in other areas. The biggest and most notable disappointment, the one that in my humble opinion completely overshadows all of the positives of this receiver, is something that only owners of a Yamaha receiver would notice. That is the absence of a feature present on Yamaha receivers known as "Compressed Music Enhancer". This feature takes any and all input that is not inherently 5.1/7.1 channel audio, and VERY NICELY plays that audio over all the speakers. This IS NOT the same thing as simply broadcasting stereo or mono sound to all 5 speakers. This Pioneer receiver does do that, and it frankly just sucks. The Compressed Music Enhancer on the Yamahas makes listening to music or movies not recorded for 5.1/7.1 playback sound almost as good as, and sometimes even better, than if it had been recorded for surround playback. In addition to this, when I tried the exact same setup on the new Yamaha RX-A760BL receiver, everything seemed more immersive. From games (Titanfall 2), to Music (Michael Buble's Christmas Album or Taio Cruz's Dynamite), to Movies (John Wick or Mad Max), every single media sounded better on the Yamaha than this Pioneer. All of it was due to audio features built into the Yamaha receivers. In Summary, If you are never going to care about listening to music in surround sound, you're never going to be overly-obsessive over the overall immersiveness of sound coming out of your surround setup, and you don't need or want higher-than-normal directional awareness within your games without simply pumping up the volume to actually hear the back speakers well enough, this receiver will work wonders for you (not sarcasm. Compared to most things in it's price range, it is a very nice receiver.) But if you are an audiophile like me who is a consumer of all types of media and are okay with spending slightly more for better quality, I would suggest taking a look at other options. I hope that my waxing eloquent has been more informative than it has just plain annoying due to length. And with that, I say, "Happy shopping"

Sound quality, etc are excellent and the avr performs quite well. However my receiver's infrared detector broke down at 3 weeks and has been at the service center since. The price also dropped sharply since I bought it suggesting that this model might commonly have these types of issues
