I ordered and returned a new Yamaha receiver that didn't sound nearly as good as this unit. 4k true passthrough with full HDMI support and plenty of HDMI ports to make switching between devices easy. Updating the unit is a bit tricky, but once you figure it out it's easy. Expensive, but no regrets. Beware of 4k upscaling - not the same as true 4k processing. Also, be aware that the Xbox One S erroneously reports that this unit does not support full 4k, which it does.

We already had a Pioneer receiver, but it was starting to have problems. Instead of spending money to repair, we purchased a new upgraded Pioneer receiver. Geek squad set it up which was awesome. It has awesome sound and functions. We can now enjoy our movies with great surround sound again. Didn't realize how much I missed it until we got it back.

I've been a Pioneer user since the 60's. When my old unit developed problems I decided it was time to replace it. Found this at an exceptional sale price before Black Friday. I've wanted to try an Elite model for awhile and this unit was actually affordable. It is very flexible with 7.2 sound, a phono input, 1080p to 4K up conversion, component video input and a 3 year warranty was just icing on the cake. The android app even works respectibly. I immediately ran into a problem though when I tried setting up my speakers using the MCACC function. In my 7.2 setup, I only have one rear surround speaker and the receiver expects two. When running the auto setup it recognizes the missing speaker and progresses through the complete setup normally. However when finished all the speakers disappear except the two front speakers and the sub woofer. I can manually restore the missing speakers but the sound is somewhat off. I called Pioneer and they replied that they've never heard of this problem before and suggested that it may be defective and I should return it. I did exchange the first one for another and it did the same thing. I then tried setting up the speakers again with the rear speaker disconnected and low and behold, it worked! I've been able to use the single rear speaker with 2 previous Pioneer 7.2 receivers, but this one just will not work with it. It expects two back there and even if it knows there is only one the auto setup can't compensate for it. Other than not being able to use my rear speaker I overall really like this unit, therefore my 4 star rating.

It has all of the obvious features like multi-zone, 170w/channel, auto setup features, 7.1 dts hd, etc, the amp supports a mobile app that allows nearly full access to all of the amps key features. The IPOD controls are goo. There really aren't any complaints, firmware updates are easily done via flash drive on the front panel of the unit. The pass through of HDMI signals is well done and once you graduate with your masters degree in using the damned remote with a thousand buttons you'll likely find the on screen menus and customization a real joy. If you are considering to spend a premium price for a receiver, it's the last amp you'll need for a while with the 4k up sampling and pass-through capabilities. Overall you will enjoy the receiver every day.

I had a pioneer receiver before this one and was very happy with it. I needed an upgrade and looked at all the comparable models in the price range. I've been happy with it so far and have enjoyed the auto surround sound and dual zone capabilities.

Has excellent default sound. Also has 3 different equalizer presets that can be customized as well as tone controls. It does a wonderful job with a 4KUHD video signal. Plenty of HDMI inputs as well as even a set of the old RCA plug type inputs.

Bought this to replace a ~20 year old Yamaha based on recommendation from sales person. It was on sale making it the same price as lower models. Been using for a month with my 20 year old Klipsh speakers. Sounds great.
