I wanted a Dolby Atmos receiver for a while, so when this one went one sale I took the plunge. I was really surprised that this receiver has been great for music with great clarity and presence but I have not been overwhelmed by the Dolby Atmos. Don't take me wrong, this is a good receiver. Movie sound is good but not dramatic. I guess my expectations were too high. Still, for the price a good receiver with nice features.

My Pioneer AV receiver 7.2 Channel surround sound system sounds great has almost enough power, but not quite enough to biamp my Bowers & Wilkins floor standing speakers. The LED display freezes up occasionally and I have to reset my surge protector. Turn power off then back on to reset and seems to work fine after that for a while. Other than that it's a nice unit. I needed more power and sound quality so I gave this receiver to a friend and I upgraded to a Denon AVR x3400h.

I was skeptical about Pioneer until I read the reviews. Plus you get so much bang for your buck. I only paid $385. Hard to beat for a receiver with 2 HDMI outputs which was very important for my set up - my patio tv is based upon all my equipment in my family room. The set up took a little navigation as you need to make all your settings via the menu. Simple things like having the 2 HDMI outputs to be both on took me a minute.

The Pioneer Elite model VSX-LX301 provides the functions that I was seeking. 7.1 Channel System, Accepts WAV and MP3 files from my local network, FM (and AM) tuner, More HDMI inputs than I need, Traditional Audio Input Connections. The back panel connectors have outstanding quality. Setting the initial configuration is a little involved and the manual shipped with the receiver is inadequate, but the manual on the Pioneer website is good.
