4k upscaling is a top end feature and this has it, I was surprised because it's not in the spec list.
I am a basic home audio user. I started with the Sony 770 and liked it. I found this one for $160 more and feel as if it is worth much more.
I setup both with the included mics. The difference of the pioneer was instantly noticeably better. I have 5 satellite speakers but no sub yet and the Sony didn't produce any bass this one somehow is producing a little bass. Also has more wattage.
It has wifi and music apps, 2 HDMI outs, newest Dolby features, and dual zones.
This Pioneer is actually an Onyko. During set up you have to accept a user agreement and the title is Onyko. Not sure if good or bad.
Amazing value and easy to setup. The Sony is being returned...

Purchased at BB at a big discount, but even at the regular price it's a good buy. Offers a lot of power, lot of inputs, a good remote and icon-driven setup. And this model, VSX-1131, does have Pandora and AirPlay via an update and other options. It should work well with any brands of AV equipment.

Replacing an 8-yr old Pioneer. The multiple throughputs on this receiver make it easy to switch from one source to another, as well as route signals to two TV's and/or my projection TV system. Replaced a Rube Goldberg-type arrangement of switches as splitters which worked most of the time, but not all the time. Everything works like it's supposed to, now. Really glad I got this. Excellent specs.

Fatal Flaw in an otherwise good Receiver

This receiver has a serious flaw. There is a 1-2 second delay in audio for any PCM source. The first bit of the audio is dropped.
That doesn't sound too serious until you realize that you won't hear menu system sounds on devices like Roku, PS4, PCs and AppleTV as well as losing the first few seconds of any music or shows that playback, even after just pausing the source.
Further, their support is horrible. Twice I was promised call backs that never occurred. On my third call to them I was told that it was the HDMI cables, needed a full reset and when those proved wrong was told that an audio delay in playing PCM is expected behaviour. I call BS as there are plenty of other receiver that do NOT have this problem. It is either a software or hardware design problem in these Pioneer models.
DO NOT BUY!

Can't use Pandora pioneer won't release update

I'm letting people know about pioneers latest receivers and the technical support is a joke. I have a vsx-1123 k and can no longer use Pandora because pioneer won't release a firmware update it will say server error. It's not just the 1123 model almost all the other models that been sold in the last couple years have also been affected. I have contacted pioneer a couple times in the last seven months and they don't seem to concerned. They're not sure when the update will be released.
