This speaker bar was designed by renowned audio engineer Andrew Jones to deliver the best sound possible in the price range/form factor. It definitely succeeds. Sounds amazing. Crystal clear dialogue, that was once hard to hear. Tight bass, extends fairly deep. Midrange is good, not too bright. Works great with TV shows, movies and especially music streaming through the Bluetooth feature. **FYI- I read so many reviews and reports about bugs with this unit, I have had zero problems. I would not let it hold you back from purchasing it. I listened to practically every sound bar and this sounded WAY better.

Great sound, but died 2 weeks later.

The system was easy to set up, and sounded fantastic. I never was able to get the system to register other remotes which was frustrating (and there weren't any extra helpful instructions online to help pair TV remote with the soundbar), but I was able to look over it because we loved the sound. The second time we turned the system on, we noticed that the bar made a very loud pop sound. Every time we turned the system on, the system started up with the same pop sound. 2 weeks later, the loud sound was missing at start up, and then the speaker never had sound again. Luckily it was within 30 days (and we purchased the warranty) and we exchanged it for a different system.

    Failure out of the box

Although this sound bar has received a lot of positive reviews, my experience is 180 degs opposite. First off, I could not get the sound bar and sub-woofer to sync. After a hand full of tries by following the Owners Manual I went on line and found an instructional video at Pioneer's site narrated by Andrew Jones. He shows that the power stand-by button needs to be pushed before syncing can occur. This was not covered in the manual. OK, so I do that and the bar eventually gets the steady blue light. However, the sub-woof light never stopped blinking. I then went through a number of powering downs, unplugging the devices, etc. with still no sync but there was sound from the bar. Until the final attempt when, after turning the bar on, a small "pop" was heard and then only a "thumping" noise. That's when I packed it back up and returned it to the store. Perhaps it was just a faulty unit, but with the reported Bluetooth issues, which Pioneer has acknowledged, this unit is more trouble than it's worth.

Poor quality and did not function

Bought this sound bar and subwoofer for a media room that does not require much power or surround. The system was easy to connect out of the box, instructions were clear, and the Bluetooth streaming media feature was quite neat. However, from the beginning the subwoofer did not work correctly. It synced with the bar okay, and if turned up it provided nice quality sound. But in the background and when the system was muted the subwoofer emitted a "popping" and "crackling" sound. I expected a lot more from this highly acclaimed system, despite its early problems decoding both left and right channels of sound over Bluetooth streaming media (see Pioneer tech support notices regarding this problem). I called Pioneer for support and they quickly determined it was defective. I took it back and exchanged it for a Vizio 2.1 Soundbar and Subwoofer. I hope to be able to rate that system much better. Ironically, while I was at the store returning this system, another customer walked in to return the exact same model for the same issue. He had planned to do a straight exchange until he found out mine was broken too. He ended up with the Sony HTCT260. Either the Vizio or Sony should be good choices better than this one and in the same price point.

    Good sound but difective

Pioneer SP-SB23W - I tried 3 units within 2 weeks and I found all of them DEFECTIVE. The sound was good but the 3 of them had problem with the Bluetooth. 2 of then made nice when I turned them on. The sub woofer has a very strong blue light on the back and it stays on all the time even when the sound bar is turned off. The last one I bought and tried was on January 19, 2014 and the units sticker on the back said that the product was made on November 2014. The guys at the best buy ensured me that this unit (the third one) was a new product, They had sent back the defective ones and got new sandbars, fixed after the recall pinier had. So they said they got new sound bars in January. I was confident that this unit will stay home. But no. Same as the first ones. back to the store. It was DEFECTIVE- Bluetooth would disconnected every 10 minutes and distorted the songs very often while playing. as if I had a bad CD. In fact I was playing using I tunes library. The other problem was during the turn on I would hear a noise. I did not want to write a bad review since the sound is good but I gave it three chances and the three of them were defective.

Bluetooth issue compounded by poor cust service

We purchased this unit from Best Buy, and it worked very well using the optical connection, but once we tried Bluetooth we had the same experience as others. Called Pioneer several times and we were even willing to buy a new (fixed) speaker bar system, have them ship it with a return label and then box up the old one and return for a credit, but after being hung up on twice, left on hold forever two more times, and no response from customer support email we just decided it was too much work for us to bother. This is going back and we will be buying someone else's speaker system. If you only plan to use optical you will enjoy the system. If you ever think you may use Bluetooth wait for the discounted "refurbs" to come as I think there are going to be a lot of them soon. We also posted this review on Amazon so others are in the know.

Bought this product because I'm a pioneer fan, worked great the first year, has been popping when you turn it on for the last 3 months, now today it's dead, with a little online reading I have found dozens and dozens of people that have just thrown them away because of the same issue. Still waiting for Pioneer to respond to an email I sent...Save yourselves buy a different soundbar

    Real good power bar

I have a real hearing problem. Music is no longer a joy to listen to. I have an inexpensive soundboard that just did not do it for me any longer. Bought one online for store pickup. While I was there, I tried the various soundboard. The Pioneer sounded quite a bit richer than the others at that price range, and that was without the subwoofer. I can hear again!!!

    Back to the drawing board

The sound is good - when the sub works. Basically I had three issues with my unit. 1. The sub would cut out. Sometimes it would work for days. Other times it would constantly lose connectivity. Each time I had to jump through hoops to get it connected again. 2. While researching the Bluetooth connectivity problems with the sub, I read online about an inherent problem with all units that the left channel won't work when streaming music from your Bluetooth device. I tried mine and sure enough - no left channel. I had to go into the accessibility settings on my iPhone to even figure out how to adjust the balance, but when I did, the problem was obvious. 3. The unit would not learn from my Samsung TV remote. Three strikes and you're out. I took it back to Best Buy and they were very nice and gave me a refund. For the heck of it, I paired my iPhone with the display unit in the store and it too had the problem with the left channel. Disappointing to say the least. I purchased a Sony HT-CT660 and it sounds just as good and works great to boot. Sorry Pioneer, back to the drawing board.

Sounded great for the first couple of weeks. Then subwoofer would no longer pair. Tried everything, but it didn't work. Thankfully I had Best Buys protection plan so I could eventually exchange it. (they had to send it in first, couldn't fix it, gave me credit for a new one.) Instead of going with my gut and trying a different sound bar, I figured "one faulty product, chances are the second one will be fine." Nope. one week later, same problem. Multiple reviews confirmed the issue.

    Failed in a hurry

I give it 3 stars on sound quality. The sub is clean but slow and a loose. The blue led light on the front failed after about a week, but I didn't really care because everything else worked fine. Now, 9 months later the sub is dead. The soundbar still works, but it's the equivalent of a $50 Vizio soundbar. Wish I had returned it to the store when the blue light went out. Overall its pretty poor quality and performance. Definitely not worth the money.

    Lasted 2 Weeks

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased on 12/29/13 and set up same day. Worked perfectly at first and sounded amazing. After about a week the sub started dropping out and going onto stand-by mode while still in use. At first I could "reconnect" it by increasing volume, then only by power cycling the entire system with the switch on the sound bar. As of 1/17/14 (2 days after becoming ineligible to return to store) the sub is in permanent "stand-by" mode. Tried everything. Still just sits there. Called Pioneer and am now waiting on a call tag to ship the unit back to them. When they receive it they will ship me a replacement. I'll go 2 weeks or so with no speakers at all, but don't have much choice at this point. Did a little online research and found out Pioneer has had mucho problemo with this unit. I'll update when I get the new one, but for now avoid this product.

    Sounds great but remote sucks!!

Bought at Best Buy 3 weeks ago and was impressed by the appearance and sound of the system but within a week, the remote stopped working. I thought maybe for some freak reason the battery was dead so I replaced it and still doesn't work... in the process of finding a universal remote that will work.

    Volume controls unresponsive.

Volume controls stopped working after the first 3 months of ownership. Sent the soundbar to pioneer on two separate occasions for repairs. The first time they sent it back to me without repairing the problem. The second time they repaired the problem and the sound bar worked fine for 2 weeks. Then the volume controls no longer were responsive once again! I have owned the product for 10 months but because of constant shipping and repair problems have only used it for 3 months. Wondering what pioneer is going to do next. At this point, I want a replacement -unsure if that will happen. Too bad because the product worked really well and sounded great out of the box. Next time I'll spend a little more and buy a Bose. Have owned a Vizio sound bar as well which quit working after one year.

My optical audio is not working intermittently, when asked Pioneer on warranty, they said me to ship it to California from Atlanta which costs me additional. Just using for bluetooth audio sometimes. Great sound but poor reliability or support.

I really wanted to keep this sound bar due to the good sound but it's getting returned today due to its many bugs. The subwoofer keeps losing sync with the sound bar although they are only at most 3 feet apart, and I can't get the bluetooth to connect to my Ipad. A power-cycle would usually fix the subwoofer sync issue, but not always and I'm sick of doing it at this point, so back it goes.
