I bought this to replace my old Pioneer 7900 that I loved and had since the end of 2007. That unit decided it was time to say bye-bye. I loved that one, so I looked for a comparable Pioneer. This was half the price but with as many features and more. Easier and more dependable Bluetooth hook up for both phone and music, nice clean sound and EQ, failry easy to use remote, and decent HDRadio reception.
The rocker tuning dial is easier than the old units tune and ouns knob.
Definitely worth the price and purchase.

Hi,
Not too long ago I was looking for a stereo head-unit to replace one that I already had in my car. I was looking for a quality stereo head-unit that had Bluetooth connectivity, hd radio, preamp outputs, and would match my car's interior illumination (currently I am driving a 2001 Ford Mustang GT). I started off wanting to buy another Pioneer head-unit, because I have owned about five of them previously. I felt as if I was biased, since I have only ever bought Pioneer head-units. I never had a problem with any of them. They have always worked just as I wanted them to. They typically had attractive designs, desired features and capabilities, and came at a great price. I feel that Pioneer head-units are underrated. There is a small learning curve with Pioneer head units, but I have never had an issue.
Still, after all of my positive experiences with Pioneer units, I wanted to see what else was out there. After my extensive research, I found that my desire for Pioneer head-units is definitely justified. I watched and read many reviews and looked at a lot of data sheets.
This Pioneer unit performs great. It quickly connects via Bluetooth every time I turn on my car. The Bluetooth microphone may be fed under the dash, up the a-pillar, and then onto the visor. Music and phone call quality is great. The advanced sound retriever settings on this unit and other Pioneer head units is fantastic! The music really comes alive. The advanced sound retriever restores your compressed audio files (mp3s and what not) to near CD quality.
I could go on, but I won't.
I ended up taking back this unit because of 4 things. I believe that the USB port on the back of the unit is inconvenient. There are no physical preset buttons for the radio on the front of the unit. The design (appearance) of the unit was unattractive to me. Screen was too small and the animations were annoying/tacky (in my opinion).
Instead of this head-unit I would STRONGLY recommend the Pioneer DEH-X6500BT. It does NOT have HD radio, but it DOES have Bluetooth (HD radio was not important to me after having it for a little while). It has a front facing USB port, physical radio preset buttons on front, a larger screen, and a very attractive design (in my opinion). The audio quality is fantastic when connected to my iPhone5 via USB or Bluetooth. All of my Pioneer units have charged my iPhones/iPods.

My vehicle was set up for shows and had an older Pioneer DVD/Navigation touch screen as a deck. After about 7 years it finally gave out. Didn't want to spend any more money into the gold digger but needed a decent deck to accommodate 3 high powered amps. First thing I looked for was 3 sets of pre-amp outs at 4 volts each. This will give the cleanest signal out. Next was Bluetooth connectivity for cleaner interface with my iPhone. Auxiliary out sound is horrible and very low voltage so thats where the Bluetooth audio transmission excels. This model had the features I wanted and more. This was my first experience with HD radio and it makes a huge difference in radio sound quality. Just compare it like analogue cable versus digital. There is an icon that shows when it is receiving digital versus analogue signal and you can hear the difference when it changes over. I don't use the Mixtrax at all. I usually use the seamless Pandora interface over BT. All the features work as intended but I believe Pioneer could include a better external microphone for the phone calls. Sound quality is great, this deck was designed for high powered multiple amp set ups. I haven't used the decks built in amp yet so can't review sound coming from there. 4 volt pre-outs is a must for external amps though.
A few cons are;
-OEM Microphone isn't very clear
-Sometimes my phone needs to manually sync BT. 90% automatic though.
-Detachable face gets stuck sometimes. Have to fiddle with it to get it off.
-Wish they made a version without the CD player and just a media or phone interface at this price.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my daughter's car as a package deal with (2) 6X9's. I also purchased a set of door speakers and had the geek squad install it. I haven't bought the amp or subs yet (will be buying at a later date), but the sound quality is excellent. It's already pretty loud and has decent bass. Adding the subs and amp will make it a thumper, for sure, and as a package deal the value was outstanding. I especially like the bluetooth. I feel much better knowing that she is safer being less distracted by calls while she is driving. Calls are very clear, and she said the setup was a breeze.

I bought this single din to replace a double din in my ford focus. I have a complete system. I was in search of a unit with all the adjustments i needed to fine tune the sound. This was my pick for value and features for the price. You can never go wrong with the Pioneer brand. The sounds comes out refined and uncut.

I replaced the stock system in my '03 Chevy Silverado Ext. Cab with this unit. I am pleased with the sound, but navigating the different functions can be a bit difficult/confusing. It has a dimmer on it to lower the display at night, but unfortunately it does not seem to make a difference in brightness. Somewhat of a headache in nighttime driving conditions. Had Geek Squad install the unit and the tech was helpful in instructing me on how to use the unit. He corrected the wiring harness that was recommended online and actually saved me some money. It took less time to install than originally estimated, which sped up my day for other errands I needed to accomplish that day.

This deck has been pretty nice so far. I only have a few gripes about the deck. I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma with standard dash. The deck sits too low for proper viewing of the screen. There are a few colors that aren't as bad, but the viewing angle ruins many of the colors. It is like trying to watch a projection TV to the side. Instead of darkness though, the light is too bright. Angling yourself to the deck and it looks decent.
Coming from a Kenwood Excelon with an angling face, it's a same they stopped making them for vehicles like mine. A customer shop may be able to modify the angle at which the deck sits for a better viewing angle.
On the plus side, the bluetooth is fantastic. It is supposed to capture song information and duration, however, a Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) does not seem to work for the metadata and only allows very simple playback. The Samsung Galaxy S4 does display some of the data expected though.

I bought this stereo to replace a Mazda's stock stereo for my teenage daughter's Tribute. She loves the sound and visual display. I like the Bluetooth capability so she can be hands free when on the phone:) She has not experienced any problems.

This stereo replaced my Dual XD7714 that had the same basic features but the display failed. This Pioneer has a great display even in direct sun light. The BT is much better than the Dual. Very easy BT connect. The phone quality is good and the external mic makes it work even for my convertible. Placing phone calls is very easy from the search menu. The HD tuner seems to be more stable than my Dual. The color choice menu is nice.

Easy to install. Has wired mic and usb extension cable but mic needs some serious noise cancellation. Very hard for other end to hear you with included mic if driving. Pandora app fails to connect frequently but the bluetooth audio is flawless and will play pandora with no problems. Not a deal breaker but irritatimg. The pixel screen has some serious potential for mini videos etc but the default included options are pretty much all static except for two. Why they didn't highlight this feature I will never know as its pretty much the only reason to get this headunit over any other single headunit offerings.

This deck was a replacement for my old Pioneer. I have been a fan of Pioneer music this receiver is a great addition in the line of products from pioneer. It provides a crisp sound with plenty of power. I love the Bluetooth clarity for the music however, I have not figured out how to stop it from auto playing every time I get in my car. The Pandora feature is great also. I would recommend this deck to any avid music listener.

So, all in all, this has been a great head unit, and I'm really glad I made the switch - being able to answer phone calls while driving with a push of a button is great, as is being able to stream my MP3 collection from my phone through the stereo. It has a built in crossover with a high pass filter for the mains and a low pass filter for the sub, with adjustable crossover point and gain, it has a 5 band semi-graphic EQ, and it has pretty animated dolphins and fully adjustable front panel color. Some of the menus are a little clunky - to pair to a bluetooth phone, you push the phone button - and to set channel memory, you push the center of the volume knob, then select from a list using left-right, then push the center of the volume knob again. A little nonintuitive ;-) But overall, it's a good stereo.

All in all, this stereo is great. It has Bluetooth, HD radio, USB stick access and ipod/iphone direct control built in. I have so many options to listen to different music sources. I can also listen to my Amazon cloud player through the Bluetooth connect from my iPhone. Install at the Almaden location was aces too.

Bluetooth audio is awesome. No more Aux cord or USB to connect to my iPhone. Just get in and drive and my music syncs in right away. Bluetooth hands free set is a bonus. The sound from my stick speakers are enhanced dramatically and the bass is powerful.
