I was looking for a receiver that would work with my home theater and cover all my HDMI devices without having a switch. This fit the bill. It was easy to set up for my home theater. Price point was the other consideration. For me this was a good buy.

Pioneer Elite VSX-LX101(open box) Review

My purchase of the Pioneer Elite VSX-LX101 was an impulse buy fueled by a too-good-to-be-true price of $299 for a received whose lowest Internet price I could find was $359 - and I couldn't be happier. I was finally able to recreate a true theater sound experience. Set-up was a breeze with the onscreen instructions.
Regrettably, this is a discontinued model that has been replaced with the LX102 - though I found out through some research is very, very similar in look and performance. Key differences: 140 watts with the 101 vs. 170 watts, 4 HDMI outputs vs. 6 with the 101 - but identical in nearly every other capacity.
It's the sound that wins here - it really is incredible! When my wife and daughter, who really could care less about my home theater upgrades, both said "wow" when we watched a popular new release, I knew this was a great upgrade.

Purchased after many days of researching. Has many of the bells and whistles and my needs were met with this receiver. My only complaint is poor customer service from Pioneer. Very basic setup manual and difficult to setup. Down loaded both apps still setting up was problematic. This wasn't my first 7.1 system and still am learning new ways of setting up. Called Pioneer for assistance and was also given minimal help. I have gotten to the point where I am happy with the sound, music sounds great and the surround sound is way better than my previous receiver. Just be aware that it does not support a 6.1 setup which is what I have. If you choose this setup you loose your center channel. Pioneer advised me to setup as 5.1 using there setup mic and then hook up rear speaker then switch it to 7.1 and re-tweak my rear back speaker. I just set it up manually,

So I would say I have first-hand experience with a lot of A/V gear on a regular basis and through everything I've seen, the Pioneer VSX-LX101 is the most fully loaded A/V reciever for the price. Not only does it do 4K pass through, decoding up to Dolby Atmos 5.2.2 (soon to upgrade to DTS:X) and have amazing sounding power and converters but it also does Component/Composit up-converting through HDMI ARC out. Housing is a little cheesy and plastic but that doesn't let this little marvel stop from being a power house of a reciever for only $499. Google Cast as well as DTS:X will be available as a firmware update mid 2016. I highly recommend checking this gem of a reciever out, you will be surprised. :)

Had a 15 year old Mitsubishi paired with an Onkyo receiver of the same vintage. Tv finally gave up and my old Onkyo had no HDMI inputs to hook up to the new Tv. Planned on buying an updated Onkyo at Best Buy after reading reviews. Went to the store and was able to compare side by side Pioneer Elite receivers with other units. Although this receiver is on the lower end of the price spectrum it is loaded with most of the cool features of the higher end models including multiple HDMI inputs enabling to hook up SAT, game systems, DVD etc. and also supports ARC technology if your coming straight out of your smart Tv. The unit sounds great with multiple surround sound options depending on what your watching. Hook up was easy and comes with Bluetooth as well to broadcast music from you phone or tablet.

Love this Pioneer AV Receiver! Easy to set-up, easy to use, and great sound quality. Got it on a great sale and sounds just as big and good as the higher level models and some more expensive receivers!

It makes my Bowers & Wilkins speakers bang! I have owned those speakers for over 10 years but never set up my movie room after I moved into my new home over 5 years ago. Last month I decided to set things back up when I realized that my other tuner was antiquated. I read several reviews on this product prior to purchasing it but once I set up the Pioneer - Elite 980W 7.2-Ch. Theater Receiver in my movie room, I was amazed at the sound quality when listening to jazz, hip hop, R & B as well as my movies. Earth Wind and Fire felt like they were playing in my home. I am very pleased with the product, you cannot go wrong with it especially for the price!

This receiver sounds great and has plenty of power. It was a little difficult to set up, but once you figure out the menus and how some settings change others, it's not too bad. I would def recommend.

This is a fantastic receiver which I got in a bundle package for a steal. Sounds fantastic and I really love the Bluetooth and Apple AirPlay along with Spotify and Pandora. Chromecast is a bit unstable, but hopefully with updates it will smooth out. The Android and iPhone apps are so cool. You can control everything from your phone or tablet. Also love the power off volume reset to 0 feature. Keeps you from blowing or stressing your speakers. Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision are awesome too. You can't go wrong with Pioneer.
