after multiple viewing, this film can have different meaning. the love between father and son is one meaning you'll get off top but didn't expect interstellar meaning out of this film. love transcending time.

It was erroneous of me to expect a film experience similar to "Drive" and the experience was very mixed. On the one hand, I cannot deny the effectiveness and depth of the storyline - robber who wants to provide for a lover with his child and the altercation with some corrupt police officers - especially when it was made one run through generations and how by killing off the main character soon in the film proved a risk worth taking. Despite the promise, this project did not bring home the exhilaration one has come to expect from the great crime movies. It felt as we saw the end titles in anticipation mode and asked ourselves "was that it?" Much as Gosling carried the film with great skill, Cooper was just swimming out of his waters; just because he got noticed for utilising his good looking boy persona in the "silver linings" does not make him a good choice for a crime/drama film. Concluding, I would call this a film of promise but not of fulfilment.

    Ryan Gosling's Career-Defining Performance

The Place Beyond the Pines is one of those movies that is completely different from what the trailers lead you to believe, and I mean that in the best way possible. If you go into this movie expecting an edge of your seat crime thriller, you'll probably be disappointed. The Place Beyond the Pines is a drama about fathers and sons, and how a man's actions can have a ripple effect across generations. Despite being almost three hours long, this movie is so well-paced and yes, it does have some thrilling action scenes including some excellently-shot chase sequences. Every single actor is so on point in this movie, and I can honestly say this is one of Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper's best performances. The Place Beyond the Pines is such a beautiful and powerful movie that you would be doing yourself a disservice by not seeing it.

    Powerful Filmmaking

This is a rare film. After the director's previous film (Blue Valentine) it's hard to image he could create another amazing piece of art. Well he succeeds and does so effortlessly. Beautiful cinematography, top notch acting and a tense pacing. The story is unique and offers many surprises which at first may seem disappointing but in retrospect just make the film more distinctive and original. Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper are two of the great actors of cinema of this generation which is rare in a society with internet stars, and idiotic reality personalities becoming "famous". Can't wait to see what the director (Cianfrance) does next. Highly recommended!!

    Riveting Crime Drama

This movie stars Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Rose Byrne, Eva Mendes and others. This is a really good movie that I think flew under the radar last year. The acting and story are both top notch and kept me interested from beginning to end. This version comes with a Blu-Ray, DVD, and an HD Digital Copy that can be redeemed on CinemaNow, Vudu, Flixster, or others. This is one of the more underrated movies or recent memory in my opinion and was on sale for $5 so pick it up.

I remember catching this at the movie theaters when it came out not sure whether it was going to be worth it but as stated in my review summary it is a sleeper of the movie worth watching. Got some good twist to it and the acting is quite interesting as well. It's also nice to know that you can find movies like this with great discount at Best Buy. It pays to walk through the isles people LOL

I have to say that I love Ryan Gosling in anything, he's a brilliant actor. This is one of my favorite movies that he's starred in, not only that Bradly Cooper joins him. A corrupt police department is involved, I don't want to give away much, but will tell you that the film shows some of the most beautiful scenes I've seen in a film in quite some time.

The Place Beyond the Pines is a twisting crime drama that revolves around a bank robber and his family and a cop and his family, both of which seem to be tangled together by destiny. It's a beautifully directed movie, with stunning cinematography, and fantastic performances by it's actors. I recommend it to anyone who really loves the cinema.

You can feel every minute of this movie like you wouldn't believe. It doesn't fly by. It moves slowly, very slowly. But there are some excellent performances here, and it's unlike most movies out there where there's actually a plot and not stuff blowing up every five seconds. It's worthwhile if you're looking for a great drama.

First act is amazing, second and third are still really good but don't quite live up to how I felt about the first hour. The movie is pretty long, although it didn't feel that way to me. I haven't listened to the audio commentary yet, but I still wanted more even after the deleted/extended scenes and the too-brief making of. I would recommend this to fans of the director's previous film, "Blue Valentine", and people who can get into a lengthy drama.

I loved this movie. I think they picked great actors for the lead roles,,,ones that really stretched them and it turned out great. I love seeing Gosling as a darker character than just being portrayed as a hot blonde. This was more like his role in Drive. And then seeing Cooper in that role...gave me the chills. He was so good! Loved it all the way around.

    A Novel-less Adaptation

While Ryan Gosling fans might want to look around for reviews (possibly ones with spoilers) before purchasing this, the sprawling narrative grabs audiences and pulls you in for nearly two and a half hours. I picked this up on Blu-Ray because at this price, you really can't go wrong. Highly recommended.

There are three separate stories in this movie. By the third, the movie seems to be reaching a bit which is evident through it's 2:21 length. If you don't mind a movie where characters are thrown away and new characters and issues are introduced throughout, then you will like it.

This is one of the best modern day drama movies I've seen. It was just a great setup from start to end and the director did a very nice job at mixing up years without it getting confusing which could have been very easy to do. Great direction, great story, great acting by the entire cast. This is Ryan Gosling at his best and he reminded me why he's a terrific actor. Just a solid movie

I picked this up because I has been really impressed with Goslings work in Drive and even Crazy, stupid, Love. This was another solid performance in a film that was often tense and dramatic, but still told an interesting story, that didn't follow directly where it was expected to.

One of the better dramas i've seen in the last few years. Gosling demands the screen as always, really enjoyed the father-son story thread as well. Definitely overlong, but not to the point of tiring the movie out. If you want to see a great acting film, watch this.

This is a slow movie and Chris doesn't have a large enough part, this is mainly a Bradley Cooper vehicle, however great acting all the way around. I've watched it several times. Awesome 1st half and decent 2nd half, almost 2 stories rolled into 1 movie.

I loved this movie start to finish. I may have balled my eyes out, but it was well worth it. I loved how it wasn't a typical movie, in how it was set up and how the stories weaved together. I thought it was a great story, and the actors were phenomenal! I had been wanting to see it for a while before I bought it, and regret waiting as long as I did!

All the cast is great in this movie and the story is different than other crime thrillers. Gosling was great in this movie although, I wish I could have seen more of his character throughout the film.

When I watch a movie that has that "I didn't see that coming" quality, I usually enjoy it if the acting, music, and directing are well done. This movie was no exception, props to all involved.
