    Broke after 1 year

I LOVED this headset until I put it on this morning and it snapped in half. I could not believe the thing broke as it had felt very durable. I started shopping for a replacement online then noticed other reviewers had theirs break too. Disappointed. I spent a good amount of money on these as I was looking for a quality headset. Yes it was tight (probably why it broke over time) but the sound quality was excellent and the fabric lining on the ear muffs were very comfortable. Now I got to go look for a replacement.

    Amazing sound, really poor durability

I never had an over-the-ear headphone that had noise-cancelling. I purchased these and was amazed at the sound quality. I used them primarily for listening to music and/or talking to friends. I didn't use them every day and took very good care of them. After nearly a year, a crack started to form right where everyone else says it does, I thought it might have been a little surface crack to begin with, then one day I dropped them on the carpet (with padding underneath) and they split into two! I tried to repair them with Super Glue and even a hot glue gun. It just doesn't work because of the stress point. I expected more durability from a pair of headphones that cost a hundred dollars (at that time). My friend had a pair of these same headphones, and she said they split in the exact same spot too. So. Plantronics must know it's a design flaw and they just don't care. I won't be getting another pair and it's a shame because they sounded great.

    Cheaply made

I like the headset, great sound quality, and I have had very few issues with it, occasionally there is a brief bit of static when changing the volume or bending the cord around the volume control (not normal bending while wearing, but when grabbing it or something). The big problem is the left side, along where the top of the mic is when it is in the body of the headset cracks and after a while completely breaks. I am not rough with it, I was actually extra careful with the second one after seeing what happened to the first, but just the slight bending when you put it on/off your head leads to it cracking (the whole side will finally come off leaving only the wire between the two sides) I have had 2 of these, the first one was replaced by Plantronics under warranty (I had to pay shipping) because it cracked as well. My second one just broke on the left, but I was able to fix it with some electrical tape and a zip tie. Overall, great headset if you plan on replacing it every year.

When I first purchased these headphones they worked out great. I have had them for just over a year and they randomly snapped. The plastic just broke. I was very careful with this pair since I did spend $100.00 on them. When I contacted Plantronics they told me it would be $48.00 plus shipping to get a REFURBISHED pair. That's half the price of a new pair. After the customer service and how easily these broke, I would not buy another pair from Platronics.

    Decent headset, but overpriced

I've had this headset for a year now and have come to like and dislike a few things about it. I do like the microphone and for two reasons. One it tucks nicely out of the way when you don't need it and two everyone that I talk to on it says it sounds great. Hardly any background or ambient noise comes through. As for the speakers, the sound comes through decent for games and movies, but it lacks volume and definition when listening to music. My brother has the lower priced 377 and to tell you the truth, I can't tell the difference in sound quality between the 777 and 377. The only differences are $50 more for the 777, it has the Dolby device with USB, and the color is slightly different. The 377 has red accents which actually look better to me. As for comfort, I don't have too much of an issue with that. It has plenty of room around my ears and the padding is adequate. I only notice discomfort if I wear them for over a couple hours, but in my experience any headset eventually gets irritating. It might have to do with break in or the size of your head, mine's about average. Overall, it's a decent headset for gaming or maybe watching some movie's. The Dolby feature wasn't worth $50, even though the USB plug was nice. I wish I would've gotten the cheaper version, but then again I didn't review it first like you are doing.

    Wow, amazing headset

This is a great headset. Install is simply plug-and-play, either by USB or normal audio jacks. When I first tried them, I thought the sound was blasting through my desktop speakers. I then took them off and realized it was actually from the headset itself. The Dolby Surround really makes things sound great. The headset itself is very well built and designed. The plastics are very thick and sturdy. I guess these are heavier than most, but it's nothing noticeable. The microphone hides away in the headset itself, making it look like a normal set of headphones. It fits very well, although the cushions can make it feel pretty tight. I've been using these for a few hours straight and there's no discomfort. It's just a little tighter than I'm used to. The open-ear design means sound WILL get through, but only if nothing is playing through your headset or during quiet parts of your game. This isn't marketed as noise-canceling, so don't expect that. If you play in very loud environments and always want to hear JUST what's coming out of your computer, then you may want to hold on to your receipt. I find that the headset does a good job at drowning out any other sounds at a comfortable sound level.

I only put the packaging as not so great because it can be a pain to cut open the plastic. Overall this headset is really good. I used it for the first time last night while playing a game with my dad and using Skype and it sounded like he was right beside me the whole time. This is my second set (my girlfriend stepped on my other set and broke the left earpiece off) and it's just as comfortable and easy to use as the first. I love having the usb option because my soundcard can't handle direct mic inputs (yes, I need to upgrad). I like how much padding is used both on the earpieces and on the crown part. I sometimes forget I even have headphones on. I was talking with my dad and mid sentence I realized I was almost yelling in my room. It was excitement, nothing to do with the headset. It was like the world melted and the only thing around me was him and the game. I highly recommend this product. The price is kind of high but it's well worth it.

    VERY GOOD HEADSET

This is a great headset for gaming, and music. It sounds amazing when i just use my computer's sound card.(i have realtek High def) I don't really like the dobly digital, its sounds crummy. But its not that bad, i just like my sound card better. The pads on this headset are so nice and soft. They are nice and warm when have them on for like 10 minutes(not to hot) They are adjustable and will fit any head. I have a small head, and they fit me fine. The ear cup its perfect size, it goes right around your ear, and not on your ear. So it doesn't hurt after an hour of gaming. If anyone is looking for a great headset i would recommend these for anyone. Thanks Plantronics!!

    GREAT gaming headset.

This headset is a great headset for any gamer. The 5.1 surround sound isn't really 5.1 but more of a simulated 5.1 like the Bose 3-2-1 system. Having said that there is a very noticeable difference between having the headphone jack plugged directly into your computer vs running it through the Dolby decoder first into the USB port. Everything sounds better in surround sound, even if it is simulated. This headset is a little on the pricey side although it has come down to $90 (when I bough it, it cost $100) It is well built, sturdy and in doing that it is bulky. Not made for the gamer on a laptop moving around a lot but sitting in front of a desktop at home it's great. As big as this headset is, it is surprisingly comfortable to wear even for long periods. I have played COD4 for 6+ hours straight and did not experience any headaches or ear fatigue from wearing this headset. The only problem I have come across with it is that when you plug the microphone jack into the Dolby decoder box the microphone does not seem to pick up your voice as well. Having said that, you do not have to run the earphones and the microphone both through the decoder at the same time for them to both work. You could plug the earphones into the decoder and into the usb port and the microphone into your computers microphone jack and they will both work. One issue that may arise when you first plug this headset into the usb port is that your computer may not automatically change your sound over to the headset (like it would if you had just plugged in the headphone jack) There is a simple solution to fix this for Vista. Plug in the Dolby decoder box, with the earphones jack plugged into it, into the usb port. Next go to your audio properties and click on "Playback" You should see your Speakers/Headphones decoder there with whatever audio decoder your computer uses as a default. It will probably have a green check mark next to it. You should also see another little icon that says "Speakers" and under that "USB Audio Device" Right click on that and click on where it says "Set as Default Device" and then click "Apply" and "Ok". From that point forward whenever you plug in the Dolby decoder into the usb port Windows should automatically switch to use your headphones as the default device. As soon as you unplug the decoder Windows will revert to the next default which should be your normal computer speakers. I say all that because it took me awhile to figure out what was going on and why I couldn't hear anything from my nice new $100 pair of headphones and the documentation that came with the headset was not helpful at all. All in all a awesome set of headphones and worth the money but would be nice if they were a little cheaper.

    Mediocre Headset for High-End Pricing

I'm a gamer and play online games for hours on end so I need a headset that is comfortable and gives great quality sound and records good sound so my team can hear me clearly. I recently had to use my product replacement plan on my old Razer Barracuda 5.1 headsets because the microphone was cutting in and out, sad times indeed as Razer has discontinued this particular product. I was looking for a headset to replace that would give 5.1 surround sound and I thought I had found it here with the Gamecon 777. The microphone is outstanding, great quality, not too low, not too loud. The sound quality however was terrible for a headset that costs $100. The sound was a bit tinny and felt a little distorted at times. These are 2 channel headsets with an attachment that is supposed to mimic 5.1 surround sound, but Vista 64-bit users beware, it is not recognized and Plantronics does not seem to care about developing any 64-bit drivers for this product, so I was never able to test it out fully. The headset, while comfy, did feel like it was pressing right below my ears, and I wouldn't recommend wearing them for long fragging sessions. I consider myself computer savvy so I was upset to find I could not get the sound quality from these headsets, even in a 2 channel settings, to match what a $100 headset should be putting out. Sad times indeed.

These headphones are great. They have great sound and really immerse you into the game or your ventrillo for that matter. However, the only thing I really do not like very much about these headphones is that the USB is extremely touchy. If you barely touch it you can lose connection. This is a huge problem for any computer that does not have USB ports out of the way (the case with my toshiba). I have 1 USB on the left side of my laptop and 2 on the right side. I am right handed so I like to use the left one for my mouse so that the cord does not get in the way. However now I have to put the headset in there so I have less of a chance to hit it but when I lean down I lean on my left elbow so I tend to hit the cable. This can cause Ventrillo to freeze up and cause some issue with the headset temporarily. I believe however, on my desktop these would be great as the USB ports are out of the way. So overall, Great features, Great sound and everyone can hear me great with the mic. The noise reduction is at a perfect level. I can hear people in my home talking to me but its not so loud that I can't hear what is going on in a raid. The headset is the most comfortable headset I have every had on my ears. However I think the USB could use a little work so it is not as touchy. I ended up just plugging it directly into my headset/mic ports on the computer, I lose the 5.1 surround sound effect but they work fine.

Great sound & design, but same as 377.

I bought these and was very happy with them. Great sound quality, very comfortable, nice design. I initially used the provided usb "5.1 surround" connector. I soon realized that this thing was a gimmick. It does add a different type of sound, but it does not somehow magically turn your stereo signal into surround sound. Plus, if you have any audio software, i.e. creative mediasource, you won't be able to use any of the nice features. Your are stuck with a very basic sound control panel. So I ditched the usb connector and ran the analog cables directly to my soundcard. Now I could use all the cool things in my sound card software. Don't get me wrong, if you don't have a sound card then the usb connector is a great thing. But here is the real kicker......the Gamecom 777 is EXACTLY the same as the Gamcom 377 except for the additional usb dolby gimmick. I called Plantronics and they confirmed that. 777 retails for $99, 377 retails for $49. No brainer for me, exchanged the 777 for the 377. Very happy with them. No way your gonna find better sound and design without spending a lot more. No, they are not surround sound, but try finding a "surround sound" headset that truly is surround and is any good at reproducing music.

    Headaches & broken mute button

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Before I tried this GameCom 777 I had a Logitech set and the only problem I had with it was the light on the mic went out after a few months use. The Logitech itself lasted a year and a half so I figured I'd go for something of a higher quality that would last longer. I was very wrong. If I was just looking for a headset to listen with this would have been great but I was looking for a gaming headset with mic. I happily got the GameCon 777 home and set it up quite easily and then found the first problem as soon as I put it on. I'm sure the thick plastic headband makes it a more durable set but it also caused the earpieces to squeeze uncomfortably. Also the earpieces are so large they were literally at the bottom of my jaw; so the combination gave me a headache within 30 minutes of use. I figured that maybe it would loosen up after use but over a week and a half later I'm still having problems. Another problem that appeared was that after 3 days of use I found to my embarrassment that the mute feature was not reliable. I had turned on the mute to have a conversation with someone else in the room and soon had people from WoW saying they could hear me. I checked the switch and sure enough it still showed that the mute was Supposed to be on. I had the mute work on and off to the point where I had to resort to turning the mic feature off and just listen to people and type my answers. That is Not what I bought this for. I was also afraid I was going to break the mic after repeated use since it was so flimsy. The mic slides in and out of a casing that you pull down from the headset and is just a thin plastic piece that can easily break. Over all I was very disappointed in what I thought was a good headset. Value for Price: fair since I'm sure the thick plastic would have let it survive a few beatings. Sound Quality: Was very good and hearing things come up behind me was a bonus (and creepy). Comfort: Headaches within 30 minutes to an hour of wearing is not very comfortable. Durability: The headset is very solid but the mic is very flimsy.

This is a nice headset, although it is quite big, however does not feel heavy and on the contrary they are very comfortable. I usually do not buy Plantronics due to bad experiences in the past, but this headset was plug and play and works just fine and is much more comfortable than my logitech headsets, which all end up breaking up into little pieces, because they are not made with good materials (they crumble). This headset has a plush fabric so non of that faux leather, but the material feels nice and does not seem to bother me like other such materials. The price is extremely steep and these things should not cost 100 bucks and I don't like the fact that you can pull the stereo plugs out of an USB adapter. i bought these for a computer not a phone or a stereo. If I needed something for a stereo I would probably go really high end. People have told me that I sound completely different in game, but everyone comes through crystal clear. The mic is hidden when you first open the box and may not be big enough, but it seems to pick up my voice fine, although some people have said I was a little bit quiet, had to adjust it a few times, but the logitech is even smaller and the laser if not directed right at your mouth no one hears anythings, so this seems to be a bit better. Only other complaint is that the boxes are tough plastic and are really hard to open and unless you are the samurai John Belushi character mode common fellas, you are going overboard, be a little more green and less wasteful. Well hopefully this headset will last longer and won't crumble like my logitech headsets and maybe then I will offset the waste from the box with holding on to this headset for more than a couple of years.

Very Impressed. I bought these headphones for $40 on sale. I'm starting to think that it was a mistake, the sale, I mean. With the virtual surround sound USB adapter it makes it almost a steal. The ear cups are very comfy, almost too large at times. People with larger ears will be pleased. If your ears stick out, however, you are in for a bit of a painful ordeal. If placed in the wrong spot on your head, the inner speaker cup will gouge into the top of your ear. The padding could almost stand to be a bit thicker, if that's at all possible. The sound quality melts the brain, frankly. I wear these around my neck between classes, and I get a lot of people asking to try them. I think I should stop, because the amount of Brain-Meltings on campus is a bit conspicuous. Very impressive. I would have even paid full price!

Well i have bought a couple of these head sets, the first one part of the jack plug came out in my computer when i unpluged it, This is something i had never seen happen before , i was never able to get it out either. The second headset i bought split in half at the left extention where it meets with the top part that sits on your head, then the mic broke as well, I am not a person that is rough with my things i and typically take good care of my things both headsets broke within 6 monts for the money you spend on them you might be better off getting some cheap logitec that dont normally break like this one. The sound is great and the mic is very sensative. Makes your ears a little hot sometimes but i could live with that .

I bought these headphone for the sole purpose of gaming and it's almost been over a year since I have bought then and I am having 0 problems. The little USB Adapter makes everything sound so much better and without it and the mic is so clear unlike some other mics I have seen out there. The only problem I have ever had with it isn't even a problem the cords gets a little twisted but not in other things but since it's a fixed position and I take my headphones on and off the wires just get twisted, but since they're the best head phones I have ever gotten I get over than easily

This is all out the best headset for the price. The flexablity to either plug up USB or Stereo is really nice. The dolby 5.1 actually works really well, despite what other reviewers say. On games like Battlefield 2, and the Call of Duty series, it puts you right in the action. I've had to take them off and make sure my speakers weren't on! I never knew that sound could make such a difference. I've tried countless headsets and all of them fail to stand up to the quality of this headset. If you don't need the 5.1 surround then go for the GAMECOM 377. Phenominal headset.

Loved the sound (albeit not as good as my current G930's) but they only lasted a few months. Within the 1st couple weeks the main housing cracked from putting them on and taking them off (poor quality there). And after a short while the cord began to loosen out of the housing. They gotta know that headphones go thru heavy use when gaming. Certainly wouldn't recommend unless the price dropped drastically. My LogiTech G930's take a beating and come back for more...and all with the convenience of wireless!!

I recently got this headset because my headphones had just broken and I needed new ones. Also I do a lot of online gaming and I wanted a better mic than what was on my web cam. So far I like this headset although I am not impressed for the price. They sound quality seems a bit bad when listening to music and it can be a little iffy when plugged in directly to my iphone. Although everything is perfect for hardcore gaming, I don't et the music quality I was hoping for.
