PNY's best thumb drive. I was disappointed that the actual usable space is 461 GB. That's a full 51 gigabytes less than written on the front. While I understand there is a conversion factor between decimal and binary conversion on a Windows machine, 512BG decimal should still work out to 477~GB which leaves about 15 missing GB. After reading the PNY website I learned it's because this drive employs a special SLC cache to make it operate faster. In addition to taking up space it also causes the drive to slow down significantly when that cache is filled up. Additionally, this drive came formatted in FAT32 which won't even allow you to store files larger than 4GB. I formatted it to exFAT to allow working with larger files and it is fine. If you are planning to use this drive to store anything larger than 4GB in size, you will have to format it to exFAT first.

With 512 GB of storage space in this flash drive I can back up my entire video and photo collection no problem. And it's very fast, to boot. I love it!

I was looking for a durable flash drive and the this PNY fits that category. It is one of the few flash drives that is in a metal housing which accounts for its cost. I have previous owned PNY products and found them of high quality. Although it being metal it is stll light weight due to it sleek design. It will work as well as other devices of this type, but the draw is it stylish design and it is USB 3.0.
