Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with Pokken Tournament's smooth and deep gameplay, finding it fun and easy to pick up and play. However, some feel the game is lacking in content, particularly citing a limited roster of characters and a weak story mode. The controls are generally praised as simple and intuitive.

I really wanted to enjoy this game and did put a few hours into it. But like most new Nintendo games it was definitely designed to be enjoyed a (very) little bit at a time. Once I played a few rounds there was nothing new, This game was all flash with no substance.

I was expecting so much more I guess. Something along the line of other pokemon fighting games. I hated the limited pokemon partner selection. Other than that, the game was okay.

Graphics are horrible, and space to fight is super small in the arenas... I still can't understand why Nintendo has such a terrible graphics machine...

Son does not play with this game anymore. At first it was the first thing he would play. Now it's not even on the list of games to play.

    Decent Pokemon Fighting Game

So, I was pretty excited about this game. I had wanted a genuine action style fighting game for Pokémon for a long time, even since the first days of Pokémon Stadium and Super Smash Bros. on the Nintendo 64. I'm pretty happy with how this game handles the approach to fighting. However, it can take a little while to get used to. There are two different "phases" of a battle, and a round can swap between phases any number of times. Your moves and abilities can vary quite dramatically depending on what phase you are in. It can be a little daunting to try to remember which moves are available for which phase; you may find yourself attempting to do one thing, yet something completely different happens. Once you get the hang of it, though, it's pretty good. I do wish there were more Pokémon to use. The roster seems a little thin, with one or two from most of the different seasons/regions of the Pokémon world. Also, I don't really see the need for two different Pikachu characters, or two different Mewtwos. I think they would've been better off to offer a completely different option. Hopefully they will introduce new fighters into the mix with some future updates. The story also leaves a little to be desired. You don't really buy a fighting game expecting there to be some dramatic, deep, complex story involved, but something a little more would've been nice. Also, every once in a while, some of the English translations of dialog will be a little confusing or oddly worded, and some of the voiceover acting is awful. One of the things they did very well was the unlockable content. There are plenty of different options that you can unlock through playing (some randomly, some for achievements) that allow you to customize your avatar. There's a good mix of hairstyles, outfits, special graphics, and titles. While you don't really see a 3D version of your avatar in the game, you will often see a nicely drawn, anime-style depiction for some of the dialog or match-up scenes. Overall, I am happy with the game. There are a few things that I feel could've been done a bit better, but it hits the mark for the most part.

    One Player fighting game?

This is a great looking game. Easy to play and use but I don't like that it is only one player. You can play online with friends however you cannot play 2 player which is a major fail in my opinion. Kids don't like to take turns or watch other people play for too long these days.

In 2015 when this game was first announced i was excited to hear about a Pokemon fighting game, but I honestly had pretty low expectations, it appeared as if it would be something similar to J-All stars (Button pressing with now skill required) basically just a visually fun fighter for beginners... but i was wrong: Its a unique battle engine with long ranged and close combat style fights and also incorporates the 3 C's cancels, counters, and combo options. Also has A LOT of customization and is just all around a great game. The only con i can really find is the character selection is extremely lacking, and there is no talk of any DLC coming out for this game :/

Good Pokemon fighter (with minor issues)

I've wanted a Pokemon fighting ever since I got into the franchise in the 90s, and this game delivers, for the most part. Despite the limited roster of 16 Pokemon, the selection itself is quite solid, aside from having two Pikachus and two Mewtwos. The gameplay itself is very nice, with a simple control scheme somewhat reminiscent of Smash Bros. While an interesting idea in concept, the attack triangle (counters beat attacks, grabs beat counters, and attacks beat grabs) sometimes devolves the game more into RPS than I'm comfortable with, especially when you or your opponent is knocked down. The single player mode is pretty weak, since it's just a bunch of cpu fights. There's a lot of costumes to deck your avatar in to make up for it though. The online portion is somewhat barebones, and the netcode isn't always solid. I can't tell you how many games I lost due to my inputs not registering on time, or just being dropped. Ranked is also really frustrating. Thankfully, those issues are somewhat minor, and if your a fan of Pokemon in any way, this game is still a very solid buy.

Pokken Tournament delivers that classic fighting game feel with its own spin. The transition between phases is seamless, and it keeps the game fresh. For its source material, I fully expected a larger roster, but the selection already offers very varied options as is. Online is fast and lag free. Do yourself a favor and buy this game.

Looking forward to this game . Hopefully it's as great as the Pokemon stadium for the N64 if not better. The graphics , most definitely will be . Not to mention with the first run , will include a exclusive shadow mewtwo Amiibo card. So excited !!!
