Beyond Expectations

This unit blew my expectations. Not only the unit is clear, but packs a punch in power. Many applications can benefit from this 4 channel amplifier. Amplifier is paired with 2 pairs of Polk Audio component speakers and the sound is beyond expectations. Blows my other car's set up by Kicker.
The only drawback is that my unit gets hot thinking it will shut down on me, however the unit has a thermal protections system to avoid damage to the unit. Polk's version of the mono amp is not to be over looked either.

I just recently installed 4 6.5 Polks in a newer model Civic Coupe for the front and rear. I am/was debating whether to throw a sub in the back. I primarily listen to rock, alternative, classical rock, etc.
I figured I would go ahead and throw the 4 Polks in to keep my trunk clean and see how it sounded through this amp with each getting a 150 Watts (Speakers can handle 200). This amp is great because you can run a tri-mode and throw a single sub or two subs off in a bridged mode and still run 4 speakers inside. For technically great staging there is no need to have the rears but for the price of the 6.5 and not knowing if a sub would be required with my musical tastes I figured if I go subs in the back I have two replacements in the future. I also kept my factory head because the Civic has a dash that would look really goofy with a kit and a single head unit. Anyway it is ran into the speaker line levels. No need to do any type of Line Out Converters. Major bonus in my opinion.
Let me just say...THIS THING ROCKS!! You get great control of highs and lows for both the front and rear channels. You get gain controls obviously for the 4 channels. You basically have an equalizer built in. I pump up the bass and lows in the back...kill the highs...crank the highs in the front. Man..it sounds like I am at a concert. The rears give a nice fullness although I will probably at some point throw a couple 10's in the back and just use rear channels. I am not a bass junky. I am a music junky!! My car sounds as good as any I have ever been. I can hear guitar picks to the strings and drum crashes ringing out to the very last second. Amazing. Great Amp. If you like it loud and clear BUY THIS AMP. If you like just beautiful music get Polks all the way around. They are making killer car audio right now. I have Bose equipment (receiver and headphones) and my car puts those devices straight to shame.
Lastly, those 6.5's absolutely thump! People complaining about bass on a 6.5 first have to realize you need a good amp but also they will never replicate the lowest of frequencies, however mine thump and have zero distortion. The highs and mids though are absolutely beautiful. I don't know a better than that to describe them.

PA660 car audio amp

I got this amp today to replace my slightly older 4 channel 50 watt per channel Alpine amp that people say is awesome. I always thought it was down on performance but I went on using it for about 2 years. Last week I finally decided that I needed to upgrade the factory head unit to a more feature rich unit because of all the limitations of the 2004 technology so I tore back into the system. Anyways replaced the Alpine MRP-F300 amp today with the PA660 and what a difference in sound. I am now starting to agree with the local stereo shops that the basic Alpine car audio stuff is not up to the standards of some of the other products and is way over priced for what it is. This Polk Audio amp sounds much cleaner and more inviting where I had a hard time imaging in the beginning that a power source (with in my price range) could really deliver different qualities of power. Current seems like current when its coming through a wire right? Anyways, I guess its just like anything else (most of the time) you get what you pay for but in the case of the more expensive Alpine stuff that saying doesn't go hand in hand. I have all Polk Audio speakers in my car from before so they really came alive now. I'm so happy with this purchase I turned around tonight, went back to Best Buy and bought the Polk Audio PA880 amp for my two 10" Orion subs. I'm sure the PA880 will put the Alpine MRP-M500 to shame as well. Haven't hooked this one up yet but I am expecting the same results as the PA660.

660 w Polk amp

this amp seems like one of the better quality amps i have purchased/seen in a while for the price. easy to install but i already installed the cords a year ago. i purchased this to replace my rockford 300w amp.. it powers a fosgate 12 in sub and two pioneer 6x9's in box's also. i plan to hook up the rest of my speakers/ tweeters to it to power the tweeters in the back of my suv.(no his in the rear of my car to much bass in the back.......... the sound quality is very clear and has very deep lows and makes the car shake. i would recommend putting on some dynomat for the doors and rear tailgate/trunk depending on the vehicle and year of the vehicle.. mine has a little gap from the split window in my jimmy.
this product has very good connectors for all of your speaker wire and power/ground cables. havent had to re put the wires back in the sockets/ the screws to change the different frequencys are also very well produced. no complaints about the amp and would buy another if i were to put in more subs. but there are four channels to use so it might be a while before that happens.

So I purchased this amp along with all other Polk Audio Car products to put a nice system in. I put 6500 component dxi's in the front and reor doors. Then added a PA880 amp running a dxi112 12" in the back (2011 Kia Sportage). I kept the stick head unit and used the line level inputs of the pa660. Then as it turns out the rumors are true even though Polk support and documentation so otherwise. The pa660 will output via the front auxiliary Porte if using line level inputs. So I have an auxiliary cable running from my pa660 to send signal to my pa880. Sounds fantastic. However I do have a complaint. The line level inputs seem messed up. Because my front right channel is acting like a send all. If I fade there it plays from every speaker... However all of the fade/balances to doors works fine. This has to be the harness... I know everything else is correct.
But yes this amp is amazing. Very very loud, clean, powerful, detailed. Both amps tend to run very hot, but this hasn't caused issues.

Sounds Great With My Polk Speakers

The amp was easy to install, and it was the perfect size to fit under my seat in my car. It went along with my other polk component speakers, and it sounds very good. For the price of the amp and the speakers I would recommend it. A friend that was helping me install it was surprised when he heard it, he didn't expect it to sound as good as it does.
The only problem I am having is that there is a little bit of static when the volume is turned off, but that might be fixed by a new component cable or a different ground.

The amp has great sound and power. I have it running my 4 dxi690 and it powers them nicely. However the amp runs extremely hot. Have the gain at around 40% and the volume at about 80% for 40 minutes and the Amp will over heat. I have it mounted under my back bench seat in my truck with 5 inches of air in all directions. And running a 4 awg power wire. I do really like this amp tho. Will be fine for most setups

Ear-Splitting Loud

I have heard a number of very nice Polk Audio home theater soundstages. So, when I saw that Best Buy started carrying Polk Audio for the car, my ears perked up!
I was running a Sony Xplod 600 amplifier to power my front sound stage. But it was a little tinny for my personal liking. That was the component I decided to replace. I visited a local Best Buy store and picked up the Polk Audio PA660.4 multi-channel amp.
This was destined to be an easy install since I was wiring in to an existing amp location. Zip, zap, done. Now to turn it up.
Oh man...
The PA660.4 is powering Alpine S 2-way 6" rear and Alpine S component front speakers. This is definitely the best they have ever sounded. I can hear sounds in my music that I never heard before.
And it can get loud. Concert loud. The sound is very noticeable outside the car with the doors closed. I am going to have to remember to keep that in check. It would be easy to get a noise ordinance citation even when all closed up. So, listen responsibly. Listen Polk.

Great Amp

I had an Alpine MRX-F30 Class D amp and it was ok but it didn't have the loudness and clarity I was looking for. I decided to test out this Polk PA660 Class AB amp and it didn't disappoint. The first thing I noticed was that it was louder than the Alpine was at the same volume and also clearer at a higher volume. This amp also has all set screw connections on the back which is mainly found on high end amps. I currently have 2 Polk DXi650s up front and 2 Polk DXi690s in the rear deck and they are now screaming with clarity.
If you want an amp with solid performance without breaking the bank, this is the amp for you.

I just finished installing this amp tonight and words can not describe how great this thing sounds. There is maybe .0000.1% distortion at nearly full volume which is too be expected at those volumes. This is a great amp for $200 and if your looking for a 4 channel amp look no further, get this one.

Descent amp but not really designed for subwoofers
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I bought this amp primarily to push two 8" subwoofers I was putting in my truck. Reading the specs on the amp it sounded great. Using it in bridged mode it matched the RMS / Peak watts of my speakers at my speakers ohm load perfectly.
So I bought it and installed it. After playing with it for a few minutes I soon discovered some serious drawbacks to using this amp in bridged mode for two subwoofers (or for two normal speakers that you want more bass out of).
In bridged mode, one bridge uses the front channels, the other uses the rear channels. Thats all fine and dandy, but the front channel does not have a low pass filter on the crossover. This seriously limits it's usefulness. You'll end up having a lot more high output coming from the speaker wired to the front bridge than the speaker wired to the rear bridge if you are trying to filter it for bass. If it was not for this serious flaw I would've rated this amp at least a 4.5 star.
As it stands, I'm keeping the amp, but only because my head unit is capable of performing the filtering for me. I had to set the amp cross overs to full and let the head unit filter out the high end output so that the subwoofers only received bass and not high pitched music which sounded really bad coming out of the subs I had.

First off, this is an advanced high quality amp.
There is no denying the excellent design and power it gives,
with it's "Bi[polar' output transistors,
which make the music sound "Live",
BUT... that's where the good stops.
If you have sensitive detailed speakers, like my Infinity reference Kappas,
It makes my ears thirsty to keep turning it up to amazing ear bleeding madness, to hear more,
as it never satisfies and feels lacking,
with it's DRY HARSHNESS...
This is one of many reasons why majority of other companies use "MOSFET" transistors ONLY.
So bottom line:
If you have dull or old speakers you probably will be fine,
As they will be forced to perform better by the amp's sheer current power.
BUT.. If you have quality or detailed speakers thru-out,
you may not be happy with the sonic signature of this amp.
AS it is powerful, yet not as musical.
Remember the majority of most music is in the mids,
and power alone does not make a great amp.

Had Best Buy install this amp for me a week or so ago.
It's an amp, so not to much to say about it except it rocks!
As first poster said it can make your stuff get loud, REAL loud.
I only rated those 3 categories a 4 simply because I'm a hard head and always unwilling to give anything a top star rating because the next model to come out will be better, otherwise, why would they keep making bigger and better stuff?! In that reagard, you can consider my 4 star rating equivalent to 5 stars!!
