9 year old son loves all things Pokemon, and Rumble Blast for the 3DS doesn't disappoint. Challenging enough to keep him engaged for awhile with a lot of replayability.

    Simple, brain-numbing fun

This is one of my favorite 3DS games, which is surprising since (A) I've never enjoyed a Pokemon game before, and (B) this game seems geared toward folks 1/3rd my age. But I love it. It's simple fun. Don't expect an amazing story, nor deep strategy. You basically walk across a plane with a top-down view, attacking people with the A or B button. The difficulty isn't punishing - you can still die, but you have a pretty good chance of succeeding. The levels are short enough for me to pick up and play at small bursts, and I don't have to wait long to save my progress. The mind-numbing part is nice too - I don't have to think too hard, so I can zone out and listen to other stuff (like TV or podcasts) while I zap Pokemon. No story to hold me down, no mazes to remember my way through, and no huge penalty if I die. If you like to zone out to games like Tetris or Geometry Wars, and don't mind beating a bunch of monsters up (like Smash Bros Lite, heavy emphasis on the Lite), give it a try.
