I love this game. I walked into Prey with such a reluctance to play it. Nothing I had seen really sold me on it and the gameplay I'd seen wasn't anything that overly impressed me. But once I started it up and began learning this sci-fi world on Talos 1, I began seeing why this was something special.
Make no mistake, this is an RPG. Between leveling up, crafting and resource management, accommodating different play styles and Bioshock-like combat, Prey is a perfect mix of gameplay elements. I mention Bioshock but there's an element of Deus Ex as well. You'll spend quite a while combing through the environment and former belongings of those that lived on Talos 1 before the outbreak. This game demands exploration from you, but it's so much fun to do that it doesn't ever feel like a chore. If you enjoy crafting and collecting resources, there's plenty of that too. I've spent many hours collecting and breaking down materials to craft my next weapon upgrade kit or neuromod. Love it.
This game is difficult, especially in the beginning. It's a gamer's game, but the payoff is there. There's intrigue, good combat and stealth, an element or horror, and lots and lots to explore. I'm 50 hours in and still wanting more.

In the era of few single player focused games I am appreciative and happy to support developers putting out quality stories and gameplay. The weapons and mobility of your character makes this game addictive. It was easy to get sucked in from the beginning and the difficulty level is spot on. This game flew under most people's radar but should be taken seriously. It came together well but I dont believe they need another one in the same franchise.

I rage quit this game like 3 times in the beginning. It's tough because you are weak and the enemies are very difficult. I was also doing a bunch of side quests to boost up the character. However, if you stick with the main story line first for a while, you'll gain access to great abilities that make survival MUCH more bearable and actually tells a very intriguing story. I really like it because it gets under your skin. Well worth getting if you have a bit of patience in the beginning and expect to die a bunch of times. But use your smarts and you'll be fine. Ultimately, it's a very fun game. I took a star off because the game doesn't really tell you what to do or how anything works, which can be frustrating for the more casual gamer. If you invest a little time and thought, though, it's very rewarding.

This game reminds me of Half-life with a touch of Bioshock. The action is good and the story is compelling. Graphics are good, but not amazing. No real 4K patch support for PS PRO yet, but here's hoping.

As a fan of other Bethesda and Arkane games, this game should be for me. I really love the atmosphere, the characters and the entire concept of the plot. Unfortunately it falls apart in execution. I wish the gameplay felt a little less stiff. The exploration and the investigation of what happens to this mysterious space station infected with aliens is awesome, but when it comes time to fight said aliens, the game feels like it shoots itself in the foot.
I'd recommend this game to people who like exploratory games like Dishonored, Hitman, Fallout, or Deus Ex. It's probably not for people outside of that genre though.

Prey means deep space and deep gameplay. A huge space station hides thousands of game mechanics and dynamics ready to be explored by the solitary player. Its warfare is not infinite nor predestined, but makes up part of a bigger picture, a bigger game, where gameplay means much more than gunplay.

I read some reviews of the demo online before purchasing. Some mentioned the similarities of this game to Bioshock and Dishonored and I absolutely agree. I enjoyed both of those games and I am enjoying Prey as well (still working on it). I would have liked a sequel to the original but this is an excellent new game. I have been frustrated at times in that I may have gotten ahead of myself and entered areas I might not have had the abilities to handle yet (proper weapons for the job, hacking abilities, etc), but it's a challenge and you have to keep trying. I am playing on normal difficulty and have been playing FPS games pretty much since there have been FPS games. I am glad I purchased this game and I know I will replay it as there are a number of different ways to go about things.

This is a game that was released without much fanfare and even some backlash as they cancelled Prey 2 for this. I never played or even heard of the original Prey game but here I am with this reimagining I suppose. This is a really interesting mix of RPG and FPS. I think if you are a fan of either genre there is something here for you. The story and world immersion is really strong here. There are jump scares, be warned.
I think this is a pretty underrated game and it is one you should give a chance. Also of note, it has an Asian protagonist! This is a nice breath of fresh air especially coming from a Western company like Bethesda. I'm kind of tired of the middle aged white male protagonists that generically plague games today.

I admittedly bought Prey for a friend who is having a great time with it. This is one for fans of Skyrim and Fallout, albeit maybe Prey is in more of a linear method of storytelling than those games. But it's beautiful, graphically, and gameplay is solid.

Cool futuristic setting with good graphics and decent story. You can recycle materials and craft items. It has its horrific tense moments but isn’t nearly as scary as other games in the genre. It now has a vr dlc which is paid dlc but still worth checkin out if you like the base game. I had moderate expectations when i bought it but can say it is better than i expected especially once you get better gadgets and weapons. Overall a good game by the dev that created Dishonored series.

I enjoyed the latest two Deus Ex games and immediately saw parallels when playing this game. The inventory management is very similar, as is the game play. The game emphasizes stealth, where ammo is very limited in supply. There's also a "0451" passcode early in the game as well.
Yes this game has some Deus Ex parallels, however the atmosphere in the game is very tense. If you love games focusing on single player exploration, make sure to give this game a try. Ignore the reviews which admonished the game for late save-state breaking bugs, the developer will patch those out in due course.

I bought this game just because I have faith in Bethesda...and should have waited.
Game play: the combat system is decent however I feel like they made combat more challenging than it needed to be. I understand that they may have done this so you would be scared of what is around the corner, but ultimately it turned into a shooter that was easier that run from everything than fight it.
Load times: This is what made a 4 star game into a 3 star. When it takes longer to load a level than cross over to the next area and wait for a load again you have a problem. High end PC users may not have this difficulty but it was an issue on the PS4.
Story: Some nice moments (4 of 5 rating) but the lack of any significant intro (by design) pushed all of the story elements to later in the game or things you had to discover by reading email and clues left behind to discover. You getting very little in the way of interaction with other characters.
Graphics: Perhaps the best part about the game is the graphics, still the levels offer only mild changes of environment as nice as they are.
Leveling system: Not bad for a break from the traditional exp system...goes with the run from everything style of play it encourages.
Crafting system: Good and well balanced for different play styles.
Knowing what I know now I would only play this game on a high end PC or perhaps the PS4 Pro...the load times on the PS4 are brutal and keep what should be a 4 out of 5 game just average and to frustrating to enjoy.

There was a certain level of disappointment by many when this new Prey was announced and confirmed to not connect to the original franchise.
But, with that in mind, Arkane has proven with its Dishonored series that they have an impressive vision and unique handle on first person fare. They've also continued to commit to this game with new DLC just recently released, so they haven't allowed any sort of consumer hesitancy prevent them from continued support.
The enemies have a bit of lackluster diversity in their alien form, but the fact that many can shapeshift to hide in plain sight will keep you on your toes and paying attention to the action. Allowing yourself to focus on one in a group of three will almost certainly guarantee the others will transform into everyday objects out of sight and get the drop on you the moment you go looking for them. (Unless you get an augment that allows you to scan objects).
And, much like the Deus Ex series, you'll have some hard choices to make, largely on how you want to play. You'll never collect enough augments to MAX every category, so careful planning will be needed when you head into the game, and multiple playthroughs if you want to see how different each playstyle can be.
If you enjoyed Deus Ex's spin on FPS with augmented abilities, Arkane's beautiful art style, and an enjoyable story-driven campaign full of choices, don't allow the lack of "true Prey" dissuade you any longer, now that the price has dropped significantly. Grab this reboot and take the time to enjoy this new vision.
