This film is probably best to watch without knowing anything before hand. But the blue ray brings out the cinematography and makes the film gorgeous!

A Fincher-esque Mystery/Thriller

Canadian auteur Denis Villeneuve (Incendies. Polytechnique) gets his chance at big Hollywood filmmaking with a dark crime thriller that weaves itself with enough mystery to keep you guessing until the end. Dark and brooding, the story tells the tale of a young girl and her friend that have gone missing and the only prospects of finding them lie within a young man, and possible perpetrator, who is appears to be nothing more than a simpleton. Whether this is true or not is all a part of the mystery, Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano are the main players in the ordeal, though Paul Dano's role puts him in a position with little dialogue and just as much screen time, but this doesn't stop him from performing with the same gusto as his counterparts, and all three actors do a fantastic job of putting the entire plot into a pressure cooker of emotions that rings throughout the entire film. Supported by a cast of equally excellent actors: Terrance Howard, Viola Davis, Maria Bello and Melissa Leo - none of which go to waste. Each supporting player has their place in the story to add balance to the plot and each individual plays their part perfectly. This film has a Fincher-esque feel to it all, dark and very well paced, this film makes its mark in the Crime/Mystery genre with the likes of David Fincher's Seven and Zodiac. Recommended for those who enjoy their mysteries cloaked in the shadows and never really in control, as everything spirals out of control.

GRIPPING DRAMA AT ITS BEST

Prisoners is a more eclectic, divisive film than I was anticipating, and not for the reasons its trailers suggest. Waxing between intimate drama and complex procedural, it's nearly ripped in two. Villenevue forges a gripping balance, though, and doesn't take the easy road, even when traveling winding, twisting paths with which cinephiles will be most familiar. Jackman, Gyllenhaal and their co-stars are uniformly excellent as well, Deakins' cinematography is a character in and of itself, and the story of the Kellers and the Birches is the stuff of every parent's worst nightmares. Which brings us to Warner's Blu-ray release. Slim supplemental package aside, the Blu-ray edition of Prisoners is a strong one, with a striking video presentation and immerssive DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track.

I love this movie! Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman are fantastic as Detective Loki and Keller Dover as well as Paul Dano, Terence Howard and Viola Davis in their respective roles. Such a dark tone and subject matter make this thriller one I've seen multiple times and it's still enjoyable!

Thanksgiving Day! Celebration turns to horror when two young girls are kidnapped with few clues to follow. Slowly, mother sinks into depression and gives up; father does not. Enlists help of neighbor (father of one missing girl) to track down and 'interrogate harshly' one of the few possible clues to return of kids. Police slowly find one father to be person of interest.

Oscar nominated and acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve is one of the best working directors today. Prisoners is the story of a man who takes matters into his own hands, and the detective who is searching for the man's daughter and her best friend. Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal give excellent performances in these roles. With the Blu-Ray, the cinematography by Roger Deakins stands out more than it did in theaters in 2013.

This movie is fantastic! It was very suspenseful. I wasn't sure what to expect when I went into the theater but when I walked out I knew that I had witness a terrific story line. I liked it so much that I decided to buy it. It is well worth your time to watch. A kidnapping story that revolves itself around the Thanksgiving holiday in a damp and dreary setting to allow it to be more eerie. I hope everyone who watches it enjoys it as much as I did.

This movie is an intriguing, fast-paced thriller with very good acting and storylines. Hugh Jackman, gives staggering performance that's unlike anything he has done before, acts with an unbridled rage, and he invests every snarl and rasp of that anger with meaning. The movie keeps you on the edge of your seat right up until the end. Check out this movie and you will not be disappointed!

If you love suspenseful trillers. This is a must watch, Jake Gyllenhaal and High Jackman do an amazing job portraying their characters. Denis Villanueve has proven again to be an exceptional director. If you enjoy any of his other work, this is highly recommended!

I first saw this movie on one of the pay channels and really liked it and wanted to add it to my Blu Ray collection. Bought a copy of it also for a friend of mine and he loved it too. Very absorbing movie. When you start watching it you won't want to stop because you got to find out what happens next. A bit creepy.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman are excellent in this film. The movie gives you a sense of dread throughout and is quite an emotional rollercoaster. It is a very dark and creepy thriller that defines just how scary the world we live in today is. Definitely worth seeing and owning for anyone's collection.
