Good but not great
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Quicken for Mac is one of the more comprehensive personal finance apps available but if you’re transitioning from the Windows version, you may be disappointed as the Mac version is less robust in terms of features and friendliness of the user interface. The user is likely to feel that the Mac version is less intuitive than the Windows version. So, it’s essential that you understand your personal use case and select the Windows or Mac version on that basis. If you’ve already transitioned to a Mac and need the features offered by the Windows version, you’ll need to run an emulator and opt for the Windows version. It's not inexpensive. For a few years and since being acquired by a PE firm, the cost of ownership has increased. Like most software these days, Quicken is subscription based with versions ranging from $42 to $72 per year. At the end of that year, the company prevents you from downloading data directly from your financial institutions. Further, the system prevents you from importing data to the program. You’re left with a crippled app which allows you manually input every transaction, something I don’t recommend if you value your time. The most notable changes from the 2020 version were that which related to speed of the app. including: • Faster start-up • Faster loading of charts and graphs • Faster backups One of the more annoying shortcomings is the apps inability to handle warrants and stock options. If you receive either, the software doesn’t track expiry dates, exercise prices and, eventually, the cost basis of an exercise. You’ll have to track those securities on an Excel spreadsheet.

The Only Game In Town
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using current versions of this software for years. It's the only game in town. Speaking of which... Back when I was a software engineer I worked on early versions of Microsoft Money. Either I wasn't good enough, or forces that were beyond my control, de-funded that project and we're all left with this. I wish I could fix all the little things that are wrong with it, but that's not my life anymore. It works well enough for me, and should work well enough for you.

Don't like the Yearly Subscription
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product is good, but I used to be able to buy the software and use it for multiple years. Now there's a time limit. At the end of the subscription, you are unable to download from the banks and you get a flash screen stating you are expired.

Good price
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. With this version I was able to add 1 year on to my previous subscription which made it much cheaper than from purchasing at quickens website. Most other cheap versions being sold require a new subscription to use Quicken.

Mac version so much better than it was years ago
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I switched from a PC to. Mac in 2011, but kept using Quicken for Windows in a VM on he Mac for at least 5 years because the Mac product was so pitiful. As Quicken split from Intuit and moved to a subscription model the product significantly improved and continues to because of the iterative approach to improvement, I.e. frequent updates just like apps on your phone. They have a submission process for bugs and improvements, that get this, they actually READ and RESPOND to. Who woulda thought! If you’ve tried Quicken in Mac years ago and laughed at its stupidity give it a try again. If you still don’t like subscription software keep in mind it enables and supports automated downloading of data from your financial providers, even free apps charge a fee for that. On sale this should cost you $2-3/month. After all that, I feel like I shoulda been paid for this endorsement! ;)

Great product but wish it wasn't a subscription
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using Quicken for almost 20 years. It is a great product to use to keep your finances organized and up to date. Using the automatic download feature saves a lot of time keying transactions. My only complaint is that I wish it hadn't been changed to a yearly subscription. It was much better when you only needed to purchase it every few years.

Best Buy Has Best Price
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product is fine, and the activation code in the package gave me another year of use. BestBuy's price was better than any other I have found. However, I was not pleased when Quicken became subscription only; that is the reason for 4 stars rather than 5.

Good overall, but subscription model sucks.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Used for years, good product overall, product is really 4 stars, -1 star for the subscription model. Frankly the updates aren't worth the yearly cost, used to be able to upgrade every 2-3 years. Now have to pay yearly subscription

I love Quicken, but despise the subscription model
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will continue to buy Quicken only because there is no viable alternative, and I have 27 years of data. The subscription model is unconscionable. Having said that, three cheers to Best Buy for delivering it the next day!

Still sluggish, but usable
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having used Quicken for 30+ years, it's hard to see how the the annual subscription at the non-sale price is worth it. The bug fixes (especially, losing sync to accounts) that lingered for many years seem to have finally been fixed and are welcome, but the software still feels sluggish even on a PC built in 2014 with high-end SSD, GPU, and CPU. Maybe it's due to 20+ years of transactions, but clicking on things should be snappy and redraw on-screen quickly, but it doesn't. It's semi-slow motion, tolerable, but definitely needs to be optimized much more. Maybe they need to start over with a newer file format for Quicken, again. Since Quicken doesn't really have any competition, it's still good enough to use.

Good Money Management Software
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don’t particularly like that they went to subscription based but I find that it meets my needs better than the alternatives. Then again, I have been using Quicken since 1995 so I have 25 years of data in it. Bought this during the December sale and it saved me over $20 vs. the autorenew price.

It's Quicken
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my yearly (or bi-yearly) upgrade to Quicken. Undoubtedly, they've added a few features and taken away others but it's a steady application. Support has been a little better lately since the split from Intuit. I probably no longer need this version but I couldn't pass it up at the price.
