When the remote on our Orbit timer died I read reviews and decided to try Rachio. It is a little expensive, but we had a couple of gift cards, so that helped. As other reviews state, it is easy to install and setup, but I do not find the app intuitive. One of the things I loved about the Orbit unit is that it was so easy to quickly turn zones on/off for sprinkler repairs and I've done it a couple of times with the Rachio unit, but it took me a minute to figure it out both times.
It recently rained here and Rachio sent a notification that it was skipping the normally scheduled watering...pretty cool. I've been saying for years that sprinkler timers were in the dark ages, so it is about time we have some options that utilize tech. Look forward to improvements in the app.
In the event Rachio reads reviews, I'd also like to add 2 suggestions for aesthetics: white plastic in my experience does not age well and it doesn't look great in our garage (which is where the sprinkler wire is) and having all cords (power & valve) come from the same side would make for a cleaner look.

Finally got around to getting part of our sprinkler system fixed. Our gardener recommended getting a new sprinkler timer since ours looked like a trap from an Indiana Jones movie. I have read good things on the Rachio and it had WIFI capability so I was in. Setup was a breeze once I figured out the wiring from the old unit. My wife even figured out how to control the sprinkler system from her iPhone. Another good feature is that you can setup the watering zones types of grass, shrubs, soil, and flowers. The smart feature will auto adjust for seasonal weather and or rain.

I was debating this purchase for months. It was the last piece of my smart home that I was lacking. It is a little pricey for a sprinkler controller, but I finally jumped in.
From the moment I unpacked it I realized this is a well-designed and thought out piece of tech. The installation was super easy and setup with the blink feature captured my wifi settings from my iPhone quickly. Then I connected to the website with a new account and was walked through configuring my sprinkler zones. It then assigned a watering schedule to fit my yard. So far it looks like it's working. One of the best features is that I can control and monitor it from anywhere.

As a self-proclaimed "techy" I have made a pledge to turn my new home into a smart home. Oddly enough, there was my first task after doing some research on the options out there. I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with this unit. Although I haven't had much time with usage, since I had to shut the irrigation down for the winter, I can say, the ability to control it from you smartphone makes the product beyond worth it! Only con I can for-see for the future, is that you have to be present if you ever have to have service done on your system, no ability to manual control the system at the control panel location like before.

I love this system. I can not find what is there to really complain about. I wish it had a few other options as far as features. But I think it will evolve with more options in the near future. Great product and awesome tech support.

A good choice in irrigation control

There have been a few startup stumbles with our installation. First it took an apple device to "blink up" the controller. Then it could not handle the password length for our primary WIFI id. Neither were serious issues and both were know issues so I was not surprised.
Once installed everything in the setup was a breeze. The controller works wonderfully and is easy to use. The bonus is that SoCal Water$mart is almost paying for the Iro with the irrigation rebate. (All but the taxes.)

home automation as it should be

Better quality, less work. That's what home automation is about, and that's what Rachio Iro delivers. Hardware install is 15 minutes. Software is about another 15 minutes. Then Rachio does the rest. It budgets your water like a top-ranked landscaper, making your grass greener and thicker but also conserving water. And you don't have to worry about turning it on or off or adjusting it as the seasons change. Rachio does that for you. Excellent customer service and community support. And it will save me money in the long run, as it won't run the sprinklers if it's raining or just rained. Smart.

I like that the Rachio Iro checks the weather and only waters when it's needed. I also like that I can control it remotely using my smartphone. It's similar to Nest for thermostats. Extremely convenient if you travel a lot or have a second home. Their support is second to none, as well.

This is the first purchase I've ever hated enough to leave a review about (as far as I remember). Anyway, I installed a new irrigation system in my yard and was looking forward to using my new Rachio Iro and hoping no unforeseen issued would arise with my new-age controller. Unfortunately for me, it's been a non-stop disaster. Turns out it wasn't compatible with my iPhone's iOS, so I had to upgrade my iOS, which of course froze up, caused me to lose phone service for 2 days, and permanently erased ALL of our family photos, since I don't back up to iCloud or iTunes. They were priceless to us and irreplaceable. Not directly their fault, but it sucked nevertheless. Then I had to upgrade my Mac's operating system. It says it works with various wireless rain sensors, so I bought a $70 one they recommended, only to realize there was no electrical outlet close enough to make it usable. Not their fault, but I wish I would've known to look out for this stuff beforehand. I would exchange it but the irrigation place doesn't give refunds or exchanges where I bought it, so more money wasted. Then the antenna on the Rachio Iro was weak and couldn't pick up my wi-fi signal, which was strange since it was strong on my iphone and ipad. So I had to buy a $65 range-extender...which didn't work, so now I have to return it and hope the next one does. I'm having to miss work to do this as all of my expense new landscaping is dying as we speak. They didn't bother putting any buttons on it, so there is no way around this nightmare. I now hate Rachio, I've wasted my money, my yard is half-dead, and I've lost way more than an irrigation controller would ever be worth. My irrigation helper gave up and left me to handle it on my own as it was way too time-consuming and too much of a hassle. Nice idea but everything definitely can go wrong.

I'm an early adopter of this product since day one. I love it and this is the best tech gear of the year 2014. Easy to setup an easy to use. System won't run if there is a rain prediction for your area. I was surprised several times how accurate it is.
