Great Tool For Cutting the Tether to Cable

We decided to cancel cable and to explore Netflix, Hulu Plus etc but totally neglected to consider buying an old school antenna to watch the network channels. We were shocked at the quality of digital broadcasts via the antenna. The geek in me wanted to buy the more expensive models but ultimately I wanted to give this model a try first. In a word, wow. Great picture, super easy to set up and nice to remember that they are giving it away free on the airwaves. The downside, rabbit ears are totally ugly but if you want great reception, easy setup and little cost, this is the ticket.

Got this for my son in his first apartment , what a deal! I like this model because you can fine tune it , we actually ended up with a setting with fewer channels but the ones that he would watch which is what is important . Pair it up with an internet based tv if you can and you will have all you need

    Really Amazed!!!

I've tried just about all the expensive ones and returned them and gotten my money back. I decided upon looking at reviews just just get a cheaper one and see what happens. Went and got it in store and got home and hooked it up and did a re-scan on my channels. WOW! There is stuff there I had no idea was even there! Let me tell you that I live in Dallas, Texas in a house and I'm about 5 miles from the downtown area. There are tons of trees around my neighborhood and behind my house the railroad tracks run. This was a huge problem for me. Everytime the trains would go by then I got no signal before. Now its like there is nothing even going by and no trees around. All the stations are at around 95-97% signal strength which before they were around 50-60% on good days. Now I've got very high signal strength on all channels. This is plugged directly into the back of a 55 inch LED Sony and its crystal clear. I'm very impressed with this little beast. It's very plain and simple no frills. Be sure and re-scan your channels and then the knob adjust it for better strength too. I noticed when I would turn the knob around the signal would go up and down. Once I found my setting I left it there and it didnt require any further adjustments on any channels. I just have it sitting on a table beside the TV. I'm going to get another one for the bedroom TV now. Definately worth the money if youre in the Dallas, Texas area.

We just took this guy out of the box a few hours ago and could not be more pleased with the purchase. We were able to locate a total of 26 channels (24 of them being digital). Of the 26 all but two came in perfectly without any modifications or tweaking to the antenna. After no more than a minute tweaking the antenna the other two came in perfectly as well. We are now able to get all of the channels that we had been getting with the Comcast Basic Cable package plus a few extra. We get 3 different versions of PBS plus the option to listen to our local npr station or our local npr stations all music channel. At least one variation of all of the major networks comes in, a few local stations that have some great programing and play reruns of some of our favorite shows, the 'ion' network and several other channels that I have not had time to explore further yet come in. The picture quality is definitely what is blowing me away. We really thought that we would have to spend a minimum of $60 on antenna to get anywhere near this quality. Full Disclosure: We are located approximately 10 miles from downtown Portland Or and are no doubt next to many towers. We hooked this up to a 32" Sony Bravia 720p. We are cancelling our cable subscription first thing tomorrow. I highly recommend this product.

    Good For Suburbs

I live about 10 miles from all of the major broadcast stations just outside of Pittsburgh (so lots of hills/mountains to interfere). I just got a new HD tv and haven't had time to run the necessary cable lines to the TV, so in the mean time I picked up this inexpensive antenna (I can't not watch my new TV). All of the digital and HD channels are crystal clear with very few issues. There are rare occasions where there is a small 'hicup' but it seems very comparable to what I have seen at friends houses with cable. The picture is very sharp and sound is also good. The reason for 4 starts and not 5 is simply because if you want this for analog TV, then I would not recommend this. I cannot pick up a single station with it that would be suitable to watch. Overall, I am very happy with it and it will suit my needs for a few weeks until I can get my cabling installed.

This antenna is pretty decent for the price. In my area of west burbs of chicago, I am able to receive 5 nbc 9 wgn 32 fox 11 50 26 From what i've read fine tuning any lower digit channels is very finicky and picky, higher digit channels are much easier to receive. I'm able to get channel 5 very clear, but 2 has not been successful even after hours of fine tuning. Most channels that come in are very clear and also have dolby digital sound if that channel is pushing it. Overall, its a good buy for the price, are there better antenna out there? Yeah, definitely... but for way more $.

For $19.99 or less, start with this one

This one is tough because you’re basically using old school tech. It reminds me more of adjusting for your wireless access because you have to consider line of sight and interference to get the best signal. My parents actually had an 80’s television from Service Merchandise and a digital converter and they got all the channels. I purchased a 32” Samsung LED TV for them. The furthest channel they need to get is the one they want the most and is 10.9 miles as you drive. I originally bought the basic rabbit ear style RCA for $19.99 and all the channels came in except for one so I went back and rather than try repeatedly I simply bought the most expensive, $99 antenna with a booster and reflector. Well, the 2 channels that are the furthest away would not come in at all. So, in my case, the $19.99 antenna actually worked better than the most expensive one. Go figure. I have walked away from this feeling that all antennas are the same and it’s all about the placement. It’s hard to find actual advice in this area. No one at a store will know anything about it. The TV I am dealing with is older than all the people working at your average Best Buy :) The reviews are of little help simply because everyone loves, or hates, each antenna based on their location and how well they can get a signal from where their TV is. I hope my experience in this helps someone else. Start with the $19.99 antenna. If you're thinking the cheapest one is the worst, it's not.

    As good as cable

I hooked this unit up to my new LG 37" LCD and it worked like a charm! Signals as clear as cable TV. There were a few glitches, but those were easily overcome. First, I initially set up the antenna on a small stand just beneath my wall-mounted TV monitor, with the antennae fully extended in a v shape behind the monitor. While aesthetically pleasing, I believe this caused some interference with reception as a couple of channels were not sometimes not coming in and channel 9 would not come in at all, no matter how many times I changed the signal knob on the top of the unit. I switched the antenna to on top of the TV (it actually balances very well on top with the wall behind providing support). Although the antennae sticking up don't look as nice, it doesn't look horrible either. I still had problems with channel 9, but now, turning the knob, it comes in clearly. I get all the standard channels and their digital extras (7-1, 7-2, 7-3, 5-1, 5-2, 5-3, 30-1, 30-2, etc.) . And for purposes of comparison, my TV is located in the middle of the house- in my case, there was no need to mount the antenna near a window.

I recently cancelled my cable television subscription that I've had for years not only because of rising costs but also because I just didn't watch television as much anymore. Nevertheless, I still wanted basic channels for watching events like the local news and some shows. I did purchase several tv antennas including the more expensive non-rabbit ear tv antennas, which unfortunately did not work very well in my apartment. Of all the antennas I tried, I have to say that this model and model #ANT111 (the other rabbit-ear RCA antenna without the dial or movable ring) had the best reception. I also purchased a new HDTV and the HD signals on the channels come in very clearly. NBC is the only channel I am having some trouble with and seeing a lot of distortion. The antenna should be next to a window for best reception quality.

I have been without broadcast/Cable TV since May of last year. It's been awesome. But I've finally caved in to getting some basic channels in addition to my vast DVD collection. There's no assembly. I plugged it in, scanned for channels with the TV, and I was all set. The picture and sound is phenomenal considering, and I rarely encounter a stutter due to weather or distance from broadcasting tower. Am I really going to complain? No. For $15, you can't go wrong.

This anntena is fabulous and it picks up lots of channels but the HD signal breaks upsometimes. And it is somewhat weird, this anntena doesnt pick up the HD channel for NBC and the station is right near my house but it picks up the analog version pretty desently. But when the HD channels are clear the picture quality is amazing and i would recommend this 100%.

Purchased to get channels in Memphis, TN. Had been using another antenna that would bring in only one channel clear and a few others fuzzy. This antenna allowed me to bring in a few more channels clear. I decided to keep it (especially for the price) and continue to research if another antenna that would be more expensive might be my next step. However, looking at the reviews of other antennas, even the more expensive ones do not get high ratings. One nice thing is that Best Buy said that I could try the antenna and if it did not perform well, I could return it.

I went into Best Buy looking for an antenna that would get good reception but not cost me too much money. An employee showed me some of the more expensive ones but then recommended this RCA antenna for it's low price and positive feedback on reception. I took it home and plugged it in and in less than 10 minutes I had all available channels on my TV.

I purchased one of these antennas about 4 years ago and I ended up not needing it so I gave it to a friend. She says it works just fine. I recently had to pick up another antenna to replace the one I gave away and I had no problem purchasing the same model by RCA. They aren't exactly the "LG" of brand names but the antenna does a decent job for only $14.99.

Better than the less expensive RCA ANT111

This antenna is for a kitchen TV where no cable outlet is available. It must receive digital transmissions over UHF and also VHF for a couple of local stations. The RCA ANT111 could pick up the UHF stations with no problem but had lots of trouble with VHF channels 7 and 9. (These are the actual carrier frequencies, not just the apparent channel numbers.) The RCA ANT121 still gets the UHF channels well but also picks up the VHF channels much more easily. The tuning knob on the antenna actually does make a difference. The ANT111 would constantly lose reception as we moved around the kitchen, but this has not been a problem with the ANT121. If you are in an area where a super cheap antenna is not quite good enough you might want to try this one. P.S. - the black color of the VHF dipoles make it less ugly than silver-colored antennas.

This was the 4th antenna I tried. Prices ranging from $15-$80 and believe it or not we received the best reception from this one. Beautiful picture and we do not live close to the towers. Distance for most is 28.8 miles. I am amazed at how well these work. Try it, what do you have to lose.

I purchased this antenna instead of one of the more expensive omnidirectional based on the recommendation of a Best buy employee. He said he sees a decent number of the more expensive returned, but rarely sees the model. I have to agree. I hooked it up and a channel scan and I got all of the broadcast channels from my area and a some from the nearby area as well. I haven't have to fuss with antennas.

This antenna works pretty well and was much cheaper than other options. It does exactly what the salesperson said it would as his recommendation comparing the others. It is easy to assemble and use. I picked it up to move it while I was dusting and accidentally knocked it against the wall. One of the ears bent slightly and when I tried to straighten it, it broke in half. I have taped it together and it still works. Be careful because the ears are very flimsy. It works well for the price.
