This is the perfect device for entry level and run and gun audio recordings. The audio is better than a phone or your camera’s built in preamps, but I don’t recommend for professional’s/prosumers unless you can control the environment you’re in and also have a backup source of audio. Base on my personal experience, I bought the wrong mic for the job, but it definitely won’t go to waste. Additional details listed below.
My gear rental was delayed, so I bought this mic last minute for a run and run rooftop promo video I was recording same day. It was windy and the audio was horribly distorted, but I learned some valuable lessons. Get the right mic for the job!
Pros: lightweight, easy to use, no phantom power needed, great sound when recording subjects directly in front of the microphone in a controlled environment.
Cons: You can’t adjust the gain on this mic; There’s practically, no wind resistance with the windscreen that comes in the box (so you must buy a furry windshield protector to obtain best sound quality if wind is present)

Microphone performs as much as I shouldn't be. So this microphone is one of those microphones that works best as a 'voice-over' mic first. (Just my opinion). I would say it would be a great microphone as a vlog Microphone BUT if you are using it as a mic for a camera that has a pretty powerful pre-amp or very good gain adjustment setting for a plugged in mic. I could see this working very very well if used with any audio recorder.
So this microphone can connect to any device via Usb-C or 3.5mm plug. It is said this microphone could plug into a device with the RODE CENTRAL app/program installed onto it. With that app you can change a few settings for how this microphone performs. What you need to know when it comes to that is this microphone doesn't save these settings within itself. The settings you change for this microphone only changes for that device...not this mic itself.....within itself.
For example.... You have a laptop and a computer with the rode Central app freshly installed. You plug this microphone into your laptop and go into the RODE CENTRAL program to make some adjustments. This adjustments will only work on this microphone when you plug it into your laptop.
Now.....
You take your computer and plug this microphone into it. You will notice those settings you've adjusted on your laptop did not translate to your computer. You'll have to make those settings again on that computer.
Now... I'll
You have a GoPro that you want to use this microphone with to vlog. Those settings you've made with your computer and laptop will not be the microphone's settings. When this microphone is plugged into any device that doesn't have that RODE CENTRAL app/program installed onto it, this camera will function as a basic microphone that sounds really really good. I haven't used this camera with any mic settings change yet and it sounds really good. I'll probably make a very short video just letting you guys hear this microphone without any setting changes. I definitely recommend it. It can be slid forward and back allowing you to better your chances to keep this mic out of frame if you need to. This Rode Video NTG mount is very study also and keeps your audio quiet from shaking sounds when you are using this for vlogging or anything else that will make a camera/microphone shake.
The more I write the more I want to make a video on this. I guess I'll make a video on it....
In the meantime......
But it if you like everything I wrote here about it!

I recently got my hands on the RØDE VIDEOMIC GO II, and I must say it exceeded my expectations as a lightweight directional microphone. This microphone is perfect for content creators, vloggers, and anyone looking to elevate their audio recording quality without compromising portability.
One of the standout features of the VIDEOMIC GO II is its compact and lightweight design. It’s incredibly easy to carry around, making it ideal for on-the-go shooting. I appreciated how it didn’t add any unnecessary weight to my setup, allowing me to focus on capturing the perfect shot.
The audio quality delivered by this microphone is exceptional. Its directional pickup pattern effectively isolates the sound source and reduces unwanted background noise, resulting in clean and professional-sounding recordings. Whether I was filming interviews, outdoor scenes, or even in noisy environments, the VIDEOMIC GO II consistently captured clear and crisp audio.
I found the plug-and-play functionality of this microphone to be incredibly convenient. It connects directly to my camera or smartphone without the need for any additional batteries or complicated setup processes. The built-in shock mount also helps minimize handling noise, ensuring smoother and more professional audio recordings.
Another feature that impressed me was the VIDEOMIC GO II’s versatility. It offers both a 3.5mm analog output and a USB-C digital output, allowing me to connect it to a wide range of devices. The inclusion of a headphone output with volume control further enhances the monitoring experience, enabling me to ensure the audio levels are perfect during recording.
In conclusion, the RØDE VIDEOMIC GO II is an outstanding lightweight directional microphone that delivers exceptional audio quality in a portable package. Its compact design, ease of use, and versatility make it a valuable tool for content creators on the move. If you’re looking to enhance your audio recording capabilities with a microphone that’s both reliable and convenient, the VIDEOMIC GO II is a top-notch choice.

I love this microphone. It does an amazing job picking up the audio you want, in a way that is easily editable for background noise. I've used this mic outside, in a busy bar, and it all sounds amazing! Highly reccomend for the price and ease of use. Truly plug n play which is just spectacular.

A really great mic small and not cumbersome. It pics up sound wonderfully but for the price I wish it had the function to control gain. There are plenty of other mics at this price point or cheaper that give you more sound control with just as good or better sound quality. You are definitely paying for quality but you're paying a little bit more for the RODE name as well. I suggest you ask around, research your options before you buy this, unless you're a RODE type of person, then it's a great upgrade or replacement option.

The reason I bought this was the multi function aspect. The fact that I can connect it to my camera with the trs cable and than connect it to my phone or computer via USB-C makes my workflow easy and seamless.
Excellent mic if you use it for content creation and switch between different devices or cameras and want a do it all solution for audio.

This is a solid microphone for the price. I work with mics that pack a ton of punch and this Rode gives you a decent bang for you buck. I'm happy with it, mostly for really solid scratch audio.

So far this mic has exceeded my expectations. I have used it for interviews with very good results. I know there are higher quality mics like the Rode NTG or VideoMicPro, but for just $100 this serves my needs well.

This is my zoom/Teams/Discord mic. I love it. It’s got a really tight polar pattern and decent sensitivity, which means I can have it back a bit and actually focus on my computer rather than a cardiod mic right in my face. It’s not quite as rich of a sound as if you were up-close and personal with a nice large-diaphragm cardiod, but it’s close enough for someone like me who isn’t a professional streamer. Not having it in the camera frame is a nice bonus.
