This is definitely not your direct book to movie situation, but it is a great story to watch. It is visually stunning and the dialogue definitely keeps pace with the wit found in the book. Must watch if you enjoyed the book just remember to go in knowing it wont be the book exactly.

I have always been a fan of Steven Spielberg, However I am surprised at how refreshingly new, hip, and entertaining this was. The animation was ridiculously rich and detailed ... And it is a film brimming with eighties nostalgia. 4K is the way to go for this one ...

Do yourself a favor and see this movie. It is fun for everyone. The references to older films and pop culture is great. Every time I watch it I catch something new. The storytelling is fun and enticing. This movie will totally immerse you in it and you won't want it to end.

Quite an eye popping visual sort of film and to me the Blu Ray presents things in full detail. I'd strongly recommend reading the book if you have any interest in this story. Especially if you really did grow up in the 80's. Aside from that, a very nice Blu Ray production

I'm a bit biased on this one because I saw the world premiere at SXSW but the visual effects of this movie are insane. If you're into 80s nostalgia you'll love this and if not, well it's still a Spielberg film so you can expect great camerawork, editing, and a lot of heart.

This is a neat movie and an game that has the winner taking charge of the company they can win. Lots of people trying to accomplish this task. When you see how the story is told, then you will like the movie. 4k makes the picture all that much beyter!

Ready Player One is a fun fantasy movie that could be a glimpse at the actual future. But it is also a great look at the past for any Gen Xers. Being part of generation X it brought back a lot of happy memories. But I think it can be a fun movie for anyone of any age.

Steven Spielberg's imagination explodes across the screen in this adaptation of author Ernst Cline's bestselling novel of the same name. This sci-fi action adventure could have easily hinged too heavily on the premise of utilizing pop culture references in its narrative.

I know this isn't quite like the book, but I am one to separate that fact for the sake of entertainment. Just a fun and visually stunning movie. Really enjoy all the pop culture references too, fun just watching trying to pinpoint those you may have missed previously.

This movie was a lot more enjoyable then I thought it would be. Never a doll moment and action packed. Lots of fun finding the easter eggs and see some old things in the back ground. The movie was so good I bought my parents one too. Great picture and sound quality!

I been wanting to get this in 4k ever since I watched it in theaters. So I got the bluray in 3D and now the 4K version. Love this movie and eventhough it is not as good as the book (it never is), it's still very well done and a great scifi movie

An Exceptional Example of Spielberg Wonder

Director Steven Spielberg has a way with not only bringing the viewer into the spectacle, but making them appreciate the aura of the spectacle he has concocted on screen. We're not just in awe of what we're seeing on screen, but we're in awe of how it makes us feel. Spielberg is a master of this kind of spellbinding visual storytelling, but as the filmmaker has grown older his filmography has naturally become more serious. That is to say, it's been a decade since that fourth Indiana Jones movie and while Spielberg has co-directed a motion-capture Tintin movie here and an adaptation of The BFG there the majority of Spielberg's latter filmography consists of more "adult" projects. With his latest, Ready Player One, Spielberg returns to that era he helped define with films like Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jurassic Park, and even Hook as Ready Player One mines the kind of wonder each of those films elicited as they were all, in some fashion, told from the point of view of a child who was allowed to run wild with and fully indulge in their imagination. Some may state that this is the very thing wrong with Ready Player One in that it is a little too indulgent in such imagination; reveling in the nostalgia of pop culture rather than relying on its own inventiveness to make it stand apart yet feel familiar. And yet, the way in which Ready Player One utilizes these aspects to tell a brand new story is so creative and so striking in its relatability-especially to an movie-goer-that it feels rooted in a truth that movies were afraid to discuss until now. It may be due to the fact that I came of age in an era where the site of that T-Rex in Jurassic Park was something that couldn't have been realized in such life-like fashion prior or because I grew up re-watching Hook to the point those lost boys became an integral part of my childhood, but the fact of the matter is Ready Player One doesn't just utilize the same tone and a barrage of references to trick audience members who might have an affection for any one of the many cameos this thing trots out in order to make them feel an affinity for this new product, but rather it takes the real world into account, advances it into a hyper, but all too probable reality, and then comments on how it's nice to indulge in our imaginations and appreciate what others have given us with theirs, but that-as with everything-balance is key and it requires real world interactions and relationships and experiences to allow those imaginations to grow. It's not a groundbreaking thesis, but it's executed so well and is such a fun journey to go on the fact its ideas aren't brand-spanking new isn't a deal-breaker. If nothing else, it's a comforting reminder told from the perspective of a filmmaker with fresh (or at least re-invigorated) eyes.

Spielberg created a great world with so many references to classic sci-fi movies and tv shows and classic video games. The movie is excellent and the end is even better than the one in the book. Top notch picture and sound make the UHD release the one to get.

I really enjoyed the retro aspect of this movie. There are so many references to pop culture at the time. It was a bit like reliving my childhood. The docking of the star is for the lack of faithfulness to the book. While it certainly followed the basic tenets of the story, there were some missing elements that I would have liked to have seen. Good entertainment value, though.

this film is just full of easter eggs and video game fan service. Sometimes its message feels heavy handed and a fair amount of the book was changed to make the movie. I think the movie came out quite well personally but I can see a persons enjoyment of this film being pretty heavily tied into if they can just enjoy the ride without trying to pick holes in the movies plot.
