Bought this game with low expectations since I absolutely ADORED the first Red Dead Redemption, Which completely blew Red Dead Revolver out of the water. Since it was such a gem when it released I expected to be let down by the 2nd boy was I wrong; and boy is Rock Star as a company proving that they are the New England Patriots of the gaming world. This game is worth every single penny you spend on it, excellent story, excellent characters, and so much to do it might take you multiple play-through’s just to experience it all. If you’re a gamer, and you’re looking for Action & Adventure, this is it. I recommend the Special Edition simply because you get access to key horses that are REALLY nice to have; especially since 40% of the game is spent on horseback.

Simply put, this game is basically GTA V in the Wild West. While the Online portion is very immature, it's still in beta, so I won't really comment on that other than to say it's currently pretty bad.
The single player experience is excellent, though. The voice acting is top notch, the world is absolutely stunning, and the gameplay is what you'd expect out of Rockstar.
It's not without it's issues - the horse controls are a bit of a pain at times, but the map is expansive, the missions are fun, and the story is engaging. I'm really enjoying this installation of the series and I think Rockstar did a fantastic job with it. Now if they could only take a queue from GTA V with online play, this game would be legendary.

Game of the year

If you love playing games with compelling stories and great characters, this is your game. If you love open world sandbox games buy now. If you love collecting and are a completionist good luck finding everything. Red Dead Redemption 2 will satisfy all that and more. While the gunplay is admittedly geared towards a more arcade like feel it, never takes away from what makes this a game of the year contender. The ability to play white hat, bkackhat, or anything in between means more than one playthrough can still give you more of the story. Once you add the online component, which just kicked off in beta and this masterpiece is guaranteed to give you dozens if not hundreds of hours of gameplay.

There has been some truly stellar games out this year with GOW, Spider-Man and Shadow of the Tomb Raider to name a few!!! But this game is by far the best of the year by a long shot!!! And I thought the first 2 I named were truly amazing! But this is a masterpiece! The gameplay is top notch but the story and the attention to detail is unbelievable! It’ll take you around 60-70 hours to complete the main story and well over 100 to do everything! But here’s the kicker you won’t feel like it’s been that long and in fact you’ll want more cause it’s that engrossing and realistic and down right a blast to play! Easily game of the year in my mind and I’m sure most who will play!

The music, visuals, and overall atmosphere in this game are incredible. The story is the best one Rockstar has made yet. There are some really interesting, deep gameplay systems in place during the free-roam portions of the game, but unfortunately those don't come into play during the missions, which offer very little freedom in how you can approach them. If you do anything different than how Rockstar intended you to do a mission, you fail. If they could have somehow innovated on the same mission structure they've used for over the past decade, this game would have been perfect. However, the game is still a lot of fun and gave me many hours of entertainment.

Red Dead: Redemption II is a fantastic game! The world is beautiful and massive. The story and characters are well written. I wasn't sold on Arthur at first but as I progressed through the game I came to love him. Eventually I even decided that he was a better character than John Marston from the original Red Dead: Redemption.
The game does have its fair share of the usual open world bugs. My biggest issue with the game is with the automatic weapon swapping and unequiping. During missions, a lot of the time your weapons will be swapped to whatever the game thinks is the most suitable. Forcing you to either play without your favorite load out or if you're lucky, run back to your horse to select which weapons you want to carry. Also, sometimes when you get off your horse, the weapons on your back will automatically unequip. Same thing goes for when you're riding your horse for awhile. This is very annoying because sometimes you don't notice you don't have your guns until it's too late and you're in a battle equipped with only your revolvers.
Overall the game is brilliant and you can tell a lot of love went into crafting it. If you enjoy westerns or just want a game that you will spend a lot of time in, then I recommend this to you. I loved the game despite its few flaws and can't wait to see what Rockstar will do in their next game. 4 out of 5 stars

Smooth Game with Filler

RDR2 is much better than RDR1. You don't have much deadeye to work with, so combat is more challenging. The movement, however, is a bit clunky as most Rockstar games are and the controls cannot be changed. There also seems to be a lot of mechanics designed solely to act as filler. Hoping that RDR3 doesn't make you constantly eat food and such to survive. But hey, at least its better than blue-screening in BO4.

I don’t use that word lightly either. It seems oftentimes people misuse and oversimplify words meant to carry great meaning such as; hilarious, incredible, spectacular, and of course masterpiece. This game is an incredible journey through a masterfully detailed olden times western story. The characters you meet along the way feel alive and they actually have, surprise, CHARACTER. The gameplay is intuitive and smooth. Your interaction within the game matters to the story and to the characters within. I could go on for pages here... just do yourself a favor, and if you’ve got some money to spend, spend it here and spend some time in a masterpiece.

Best Game Out There Right Now

This game is hands down the best game out there right now. I wanted something new and exciting. I couldn't believe Call of Duty went back to the future with Black Ops 4 with no campaign. I feel like that was a total rip off. This game has huge and immersive world with a story mode fit for a full length motion picture. You can rifle through the game (literally) but I recommend that you just take your time and explore the world, solve some mysteries and hunt/fish to your wildest content. Trust me, you won't be disappointed! If you played the first Red Dead Redemption, you will be in for a surprise at the end of this game...

One of the deepest, most beautiful video games ever made. The level of detail in all facets of the game is nothing short of astonishing. All that being said, I wouldn't exactly call it a "fun" game. It seems to have crossed the threshold from video game to life in a digital form. For some that may be the zenith of video gaming but for me I'll take a little less realism and a touch more pure entertainment. I would recommend it to fans of most types of video games as this has something for everyone. It is also an enormous and very long video game, so people with jobs and family responsibilities may want to think twice.

I did not play the original RDR from back in 2010, so I was not really sure what to expect. For me, the initial pace of the game and clunky controls were difficult to overcome. I did not immediately fall in love with this game. However, after spending hours and hours in the open world, adapting to the shooting mechanics and some of the quirks to the controls, I am in absolute love with this game. The story and character depth is amazing and makes me want to get back home and explore some more. I highly recommend that you give this game a good shot. I am confident if you stick with it you will love it too!

This is the best open world game available right now. The amount of work put in to the little details in this world and all time spent on creating amazing lifelike and compelling characters along with great gunplay and varied side missions makes this the best game out right now. You’d be well served to make this your next purchase. It will consume you with all there is to do! Just prepare to ride your horse... a lot. *by the way, the graphics overall, including frame rate, textures, lighting and draw distance are all better on Xbox One X. I know, I bought both.

Typically, this isn't my type of game, but I have to say, I am more than pleased. RDR2 is amazing visually, and the attention to detail is without peer. While not "open world," the map is substantial, and there are more than enough side missions and distractions all over the place to keep you busy for hours. Lastly, it's a great story, and having options as to how the story progresses has been one of my favorite parts by far. It's definitely the closest I'll ever get to starring in my own western, so this game is certainly a winner in my book!

I loved RDR on the Xbox 360. I don't game as much, but I still go this game on release day because of how good the last one was years ago. This one did not disappoint. The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is awesome, the AI is great and it feels like a movie at times. The way the environment was created makes it look so good I can almost smell the morning, afternoon, and evenings in the game. The only thing I wished was better refined are the controls which are a bit heavy. other than that it's an amazing game and they did a very good job.

In the realm of open-world games that make the player feel a part of the world, this one is top of the heap. There's so much random actions going on that you'll be fulfilled just wandering the map and stumbling across events. The story is Rockstar at their best, however, it's still a Rockstar game, so most of the characters aren't nice/good people. If you're looking for an optimistic or feel-good experience, look elsewhere. But if you want a cynical or "realistic" feeling game set in the old west, look no further.

I loved the first RDR, but there's something about number 2 that far surpasses the fun factor of the first. The amount of detail, and thought put into everything is incredible, and it really encourages you to slow down, and take it all in. I typically spend most of my time in games playing through the story, and ignoring most of the side stuff, but RDR 2 is such an easy world to lose yourself in, that there are sometimes I'll forget that there is a mission I can be doing. Do yourself a favor and get this game.
