Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the Utopia 360° Virtual Reality Headset's price and the virtual reality experience it provides, also noting its ease of use. However, negative feedback frequently cites issues with phone compatibility and controller functionality, with some users also reporting problems with the remote and headset fit. Many found the VR experience enjoyable for the price. The headset's compatibility with various phone models appears to be a significant concern.

Great for a Novice User and want to save some $$

This VR unit is pretty good. If you are someone like myself who is using it for recreation purposes you can't go wrong with this one. I got it on black friday for $20, which isn't a bad price at all of course you get what you pay for, the Oculus and Samsung VR are better units but this one is a good one to play around with if you are undecided about getting a VR. I've been using it for about a week and so far so good, it works as it should but remember a VR is only as good as the phone you are using with it, so if you have a good phone with a nice high res screen it should be fine. I've found 360 videos on youtube and downloaded some apps. Haven't used the remote that came with it as of yet but will try it out soon. It has a action button at the top so if you watching a video you could pause it and play again without having to open the unit up. Switching apps or vids is annoying as you have to take off the unit and open it up and do it on your phone. Hoping the remote helps with some of that.

Nicely made but letdown by the controller

Fit and finish is nice. Well made, fit my phone well and adjusted as expected. QR code immediately recognized by cardboard. So far so good. The included bluetooth controller is worthless, refused to stay connected to my G3 and when it did it didn't work properly. Because this unit includes the bluetooth controller it lacks a physical capacitive button on the headset so you can't really control much of anything. For that reason this is good for watching a movie only unless you are willing to pay out for a bluetooth controller that works and if you do that you may as well save up front and get the headset without the controller.

    I glimpse of possibilities

Android phones do not have the hardware necessary for an truly immersive VR experience. However, there are a number of interesting programs (NYTimes VR for example) that will give you an experience well worth the price of admission. There are plenty of free VR experiences available, so the price of this viewer is well what you receive in entertainment. If you don't have a controller, use a Bluetooth mouse to control your phone while inside the viewer, otherwise it gets awkward.

    Poor Design and Quality

I bought two of these as gifts but ended up keeping one for myself. I had reasonable hopes given the price, but I found the product to be poorly designed and low in quality. It was initially useless because it had been assembled with the gear set for adjusting the distance between eyes offset so much that I couldn't use the end of the range (I needed it spread fairly far apart for my use). I had to spend considerable time taking it apart to try to properly reassemble it, which proved to be quite difficult (at least it wasn't hermetically welded or glued, and they used small Phillips screws which at least made it possible to try to repair). Eventually I prevailed, only to find light leakage so severe that it lit up the face of my phone such that I could easily see it's Samsung label, home button, and the edges when trying to play a VR game. The problem could have been easily solved if the designers weren't trying to be artsy by making part of the housing out of translucent blue plastic (it's less of an issue if you adjust the focus all the way in, as much of that piece is enshrouded by the part of the case against your face; but if you need to dial the focus wheels out, you'll get this problem in spades). On the plus side, Bluetooth pairing was simple and the mechanism for holding the phone, while a bit cheesy, is easy to use and works fine. Overall the idea was good and there are nice adjustments to try to accommodate a larger customer base's variability in eyesight, but the execution is bad and with all the light leakage, it's only enjoyable to use in a very dark environment.

    Ugh... Wanted to like them

Quick and dirty review - Fit is great, comfortable to wear. Lenses are decent. Button to open the phone holder doesn't work half the time. NO BUTTON on headset to perform the most common Google Cardboard tasks... Buttons/Remote are garbage, useless. Thumbstick was STUCK right out of the box. This item is missing most common features for VR, and the remote is useless. Wanted to like it, but took it back next day

didn't work with iphone 6 plus

The toggle on the headset that you push to tap the phone did not reach the phone, so it does not work with iphone 6plus, as advertised, and asrecommended by a store tech. Even had son in law who is IT person work on it for hours. Little extra pads (included) didn't make it work either. Putting back plate from otter box on it did not work, because then it was too fat to close. Will have to return. Now after reviewing I see that vr headsets for iphones as well as programs don't match the quality of the Samsung, so I think I'll wait a year and see if things improve. Surely Apple will get it's act together for a decent price!

Good headset for someone like me who’s curious about VR, but not ready to throw down for a Gear or Oculus. The headset with the controller made sense for me because it was just a few bucks more than the stand alone. It’s comfortable, easy to use and compatible with a wide range of apps (not just for gaming). Would recommend.

    Kinda works with iPhone 7plus....

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this as an entry level device just to try out VR. I liked the ability to focus and adjust the distance between your eyes. The iPhone 7 plus technically "fits" BUT the Action Button does not work because, I assume, the phone is too thin. They provide extra foam pads but they didn't help. Here is why I gave it only 2 stars though - I have called the Support number multiple times - each time I had to leave voicemail because "they are very busy after the holidays due to the popularity of their products" but I have yet to receive a call back over a period of more than 2 weeks when they state they will respond within 24-48 hours). Their online support is also nearly non-existent. BTW, I haven't been able to get the remote controller working either (yet? ... time will tell...). So, bottom line is that the VR functionality "works" but don't expect to interact (via Action button or remote control) with any VR app on an iPhone 7 plus that requires the Action button or remote. If anyone has any suggestions on getting the iPhone 7 plus (and the remote controller) to work reliably, please let me know!!

Cheap! that is true...but does not worth $1. Button does not work, maybe with a hammer.... the controller does pair with IOS but does not work like the instructions, actually does not work at all, no matter which mode you setup

Used some of my friends more expensive headsets and found that this one does all the same for alot less $$. For simple apps this is a great deal.

While it isn't big enough to accommodate my eye glasses, the headset focus can be adjusted to see clearly and is fairly comfortable to wear. It's a little warm to wear for longer periods but the instructions suggest you take a break every so often.

Can confirm that a Nexus 6p with Spigen case will fit. It will be tight but it fits. The BT remote is finicky at best. Lots of VR apps in Google play store and VR videos on YouTube channel.

I was very skeptical about any VR, but after using this, now I'm hooked. It brings hours of fun, but you do need to take it off & give your eyes a break after about 20 minutes.
