Returnal Review
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't think I've ever played a game where I was so immersed in it's gameplay in such a way. The unbelievably tight controls, the incredible use of 3D audio, the fluidity in Selene's movement and the macabre atmosphere all around you. It's the kind of game I decide to put down after a long session and just keep thinking about it for the rest of my day until the next session. It's honestly the only game that genuinely feels "next gen" to me as well, with how much haptic feedback and adaptive triggers shine here. combine that with what I think is the best use of 3D audio in any game, ever, and when the game finally clicks for you, you find yourself in that Returnal zone, like a special state of mind where you're suddenly aware of everything happening around you in the game, even when it turns to an absolute bullet fireworkfest you get confident enough that you can get through this if you just stay calm and concentrate, read all the cues, listen to the sounds and react accordingly. And you eventually do react accordingly. It's like you as the player do level up along with the character. Not often do you get past that boss fight you've been stuck at for so long because you've entered that arena dozens of times and memorised every single one of his attacks, or because you found that super ultra mega rare piece of equipment that immediately trivialises him, but because you eventually got better, your reactions are faster, you're better at reading the situation and you're much more aware of your surroundings. The game certainly moves you in a way, not to mention the feeling of beating a hard area or a boss for the first time with how hard they can be could not be any more satisfying. Overall, despite there being some missed opportunities, like the lack of an adequate synergy system, it's still an absolute 10/10 for me.

Amazing arcade-like, story-driven shooter
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like this game. Returnal fully utilizes the duelsense controller's feature set. I thought this game would not have Much of a story but it really pulls you in. On top of a being a running gun shooter, it doesn't disappoint In the graphics department. I like how the PS5 Has a performance mode that bumps up the fps to 120. Once you switch the feature on, you wont want to turn it off. Highly recommended. I think I might buy the pc version as well.

Returnal: Rouge-Like Galore!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Never played any sort of Rogue-Like game before and honestly, I’ve had a complete blast with Returnal, barring the infinite amount of times I have died on so many runs, haha! Amazing visuals, haptic feedback, gameplay! Selene is a pretty cool character too, nice to have a heroine protagonist to play through a vast Sci-Fi and monster filled planet. PlayStation and Housemarque continue to deliver!

One of the best ps5 shooters
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Returnal is one of the best roguelites out there. There is some progression that carries on to every new run. It is very challenging as it is also a bullet hell or a manic shooter. You constantly have to dodge projectiles. The story is intriguing and draws you in by drip feeding you more and more.

One of the best games for the PS5!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Definitely a must have on the PS5. Loved the game and bought this copy as a gift for a friend who never played it. Worth the money. Only concern is that it doesn’t look like it shipped in games original shrink wrap. Feels too loose.

Quality Packaging
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The packaging for this item is good, with it being brand new in the box. I mention this aspect specifically, as I cannot yet judge the game itself due to me having yet to play it. However, I can safely say that this comes in a quality case. I should also mention that I got this on a good discount for around $20.

Great PS5 showcase game
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great game to play! First, the overall gameplay, sound tech (the 3D audio especially), visuals, haptic feedback, controls, all of that are awesome and very tight and adds to the overall experience and is a good showcase of the PS5. Overall story was intriguing and kept me curious as to where it was going. I'm just going to go into the gameplay a little. It's also a 3rd person view shooter game (think Uncharted, Gears of war, etc...). Now, this game actually has a pretty good auto aim system so if you like to run and gun without trying to aim directly at enemies, this is actually a very viable way of playing (actually the way I mostly played too). A lot of the time, you just don't have the time to manually and and shoot so this is something you will want to get used to if you're not. There are complaints about there being no save feature (currently) and I definitely understand the sentiment. I had times when I had to put my PS5 into Rest mode because I had to step away. BE SURE TO TURN OFF AUTO-UPDATE IF YOU GO THIS ROUTE AS IT WILL RESTART YOUR PS5 IF THERE IS AN UPDATE. If this makes you worried, make sure you have a few hours free before you start playing, or set a goal that may be shorter to achieve. I would say my longest run probably took roughly 2 hours. As you progress in the game, you gain access to be able to go to further levels faster without having to repeat boss fights. I would say no run should last more than 3 hours (unless you're just spending time to clear out everything in every biome, which isn't necessary honestly). The final thing I'll note is the difficulty. Lots of people that say the game is very difficult to beat. I personally didn't think the game was overly difficult, and I'm not trying diminishing their experiences. It could be that the game just clicked with me. Most of the deaths I had were due to my personal performance rather than cheap random kills by the game (I say MOST). I believe I had roughly 25 deaths by the time I completely finished the game. I think as long as you're paying attention to your surrounding (3D audio actually helped a lot here) and stay on your toes and don't play too defensively/passively, you'll get far. Now, there were just 3 things that marred the experience for me somewhat. First, there were a couple of run ending glitches/crashes that ended a run I was on. There are some rooms that you can't leave until killing all enemies. One of these rooms didn't open after I cleared the room so I had to restart unfortunately. A couple of times the game just crashed. Now these were very rare for me (I think 3 times total in a roughly 24hr total experience) so overall not bad but wanted to let people know that this may happen (maybe patches have fixed by now). The other 2 things I have issues with are RNG related (basically lucked based mechanics if you don't know what RNG means). Just to avoid potential spoilers, there are 2 different types of things that you collect during your play through the game. These are randomly generated as you play so there is no guarantee that you'll be able to find what you are looking for in the area you are looking in, and those kinds of mechanics always leaves a little bit of a sour note for me. I will note that most of these are optional, so it doesn't necessarily contribute to you being able to complete the game (except for 1 particular set of items). I'll probably play this game again every once in a while to try and find everything, but no rush since I've beaten the game. PSN ID jjashikeegah if you want to verify I beat the game or if you want to ask questions. Overall a very fun experience that you don't usually see too often so if you want to try something new that's somewhat challenging, I would definitely recommend this game.

Returnal is here
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Returnal is an awesome game for people who enjoys roguelike genre and very hard challenges, because defiantly it won't hold your hand. I wanted to deduct a some points for the items and weapons luck randomness system, also no check points in case you had to leave or stop in the middle of a long run like going to sleep, but no you lose everything and you have to start over. Hence, looking at everything after beating the game twice it was overwhelming positive, I saw all the endings and I don't think I will every forget the story, music, environments, art and the fast base combat.

Frustrating, but awesome
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love, love, love this game. The mechanics of gameplay are great and the environment is stunning. Gameplay is slightly repetitive because you restart every time you die, but the environment (to a degree), changes each time you reset. The fact that you reset is the frustrating part. Grinding for over an hour to gear up just to die a few minutes into the next zone sucks. As you get through zones and fight the bosses, the game gets harder as would be expected. Some of the intermediate fights leading to boss are difficult, and you will die....A LOT. The fact that you die and reset is a mechanic built in the game so it is unavoidable, but that is part of the story progression. The story is incredible and leaves room for various interpretations. I truly enjoyed this game and sometime in the future I will likely start fresh and play through again. The co-op mode isn't a typical two player experience. You can join a friends "instance" of the game, but all progression and unlocks are only given to the first player (not the player who joined). For example, you start a game and your friend joins you. You fight and kill Phrike (the first boss). Only you get credit for the fight, your friend doesn't. So when your friend goes back to their own game, they will be back at the point they left off - without the boss win. I enjoyed playing with a buddy and really didn't mind playing through some of the boss fights twice so we both could progress. The boss fights are tough, but sometimes getting to the boss is the biggest challenge in the game.

Get your dancing shoes on and grab the guns!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Far from perfect, but so beautiful in it’s successes that it comes closer to perfection than it should. At this point, it’s not much of a secret that Returnal can be somewhat of a difficult game - and in that, I believe it’s not as hard as some others have had with it, but the game is challenging in its fireworks and fodder arcade-style combat - mostly due to the long, save-less, runs that requires a level of flawlessness that takes some time to perfect. At least for most, including myself. As said before, the save points are few and far between, and what lies between will cause you to live, die, repeat while losing weapons and items, only to put you back to the beginning for an attempt at a deathless run. Each cycle bringing a new layout of the land, or biome. It’s at the end of these biomes where the save points exist, but only after defeating a boss that will challenge every tool and twitch one has learned in the hours leading up to these encounters. While all of this may sound stressful, or even time-wasting, it falls far from misery, throwing some of the best feeling shooter mechanics I’ve felt in a long time, very similar to the fluid chaos of Control. Jumping and dodging are rarely unfair, if ever, always zipping you around like a well-controlled human pinball. Some tools, like the melee sword, stick with the player though runs, and provide even more power to conquer the strange life-forms of the wonderful worlds in Returnal. This is Control by way of a souls-like, but never lacking the arcade elements the production team made their name in perfecting. Strap in and get ready to dance!

All about the Loop
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great Third Person Rogue-like Shooter with a fairly enjoyable loop. You play, you die, you level up, you go again. It can get repetitive but at least this one is done to a far higher standard than the usual Rogue-Lite/Rogue-Like. Still, do your research and know what you're getting into. Amazing setting, story, controls, graphics, but still a Rogue-like at heart.
