R88: Outstanding Dual 4K Setup from a Proven Brand

I’ve been using Rexing dash cams for about 8 years, and they’ve earned my trust. I still have a unit from over 6 years ago running strong in one of my cars, which speaks volumes about their reliability and build quality. In my opinion, Rexing remains one of the top dash cam manufacturers in the U.S., and the R88 continues that reputation. The R88’s dual 4K setup with the new SONY STARVIS sensor is exactly what I’ve been waiting for, especially finally having a true 4K rear camera. Both front and rear footage are extremely clear and sharp, day and night. Details like plates, lanes, and surrounding vehicles are crisp, which is exactly what you want from a dash cam. Built-in Wi-Fi and GPS are great quality-of-life features and work as expected. I highly recommend pairing this with a hardwire kit so you can route the cables cleanly and keep everything looking OEM. One small design tweak I’d like to see in a future revision is changing the rear camera connector from a straight plug to a right-angle/angled connector, which would make cable routing much easier and cleaner. My only real criticism: the frame rate is locked at 30fps. For most everyday driving, that’s fine. But for higher-speed highway driving, 60fps would provide smoother, more detailed footage. If Rexing adds a 60fps option at 4K, this would be as close to a “never need to upgrade” dash cam as it gets. Overall, the R88 is a fantastic, high-quality camera system that lives up to the Rexing name, with just a couple of tweaks needed to make it truly perfect.

    Large screen

I love the large screen--this is much easier to see than other, older dashcam models. The recorded image is high quality when viewed on a computer screen and that is important as that is how it will be viewed for evidence. The camera body feels hot, but I don’t know if that will affect it. I like that the memory card and hardwire kit is included with this product. I never used the app, or wifi features, I just remove the micro SD memory card and insert into my computer to with easy to use controls to view the videos on my large monitor. It’s good that I don’t need a subscription as that would add up to a lot of money over time. The included memory card and hardwire kit are great because I would have had to spend another $60 and time to buy that. One drawback to this dashcam is that it puts “Rexing” on the video. I would rather not have their company name on my footage since I’m not getting royalties for advertising for them.

    Rexing premium dash cam

This is by far the best Rexing dash cam I reviewed. This dash cam is indeed premium category build and operation wise. Rear 4k is the best part of this. I this is first one to offer 4k rear cam. The touch screen display is nice, bright, responsive. The size is bigger for my taste though. I'd prefer more discrete size, that can be hidden behind rear view mirror background. For some reason it doesn't get hidden well in my mini van, due to placement of mirror and available space behind it. Rear cam quality is remarkably good, 4k really shines. I think the description on BB is wrong. I got 128Gb microsd card as opposed to 64GB mentioned on BB. It might not have large number of bells and whistles, but the functionality is flawless and it does feel premium indeed. One thing I need to point out is that it'll not power up if connected to USB C power sources in home. It does need either provided car cig lighter power or hardwire kit to come up. I don't use parking mode as I think it consumes more battery than I would like. Apart from that, this is a phenomenal pair of front and rear cams.

A very solid upgrade from the Rexing V1P

I bought the R88 to replace my Rexing V1P that I'd been using in my Honda CR-V for the last 3-4 years. I really liked the V1P, but I really wanted the 4K rear-camera resolution and a built-in GPS (V1P required a separate GPS accessory) so I decided to upgrade. I've been using the R88 for about a week now and am blown away by the video quality from both the front and back camera. With my old dashcam I usually could not read license plates of the cars behind me, but with the 4K rear camera of the R88 that's no longer an issue. The GPS works great, and I love that I can transfer recordings to my phone via WiFi - no more having to take the SD card out of the camera and plug it into my phone or computer to transfer files. The R88 is an excellent choice for dash camera that packs a ton of features into a very competitive price.

I purchased the Rexing R88 dash cam from Best Buy and have been very impressed so far. The installation was straightforward, and the camera feels solid and well-built. Video quality is sharp both during the day and at night, and it gives me a lot more peace of mind while driving. The app and features are easy to use, and it records reliably every time I start the car. Professional camera for a Professional Driver

I'm a long haul truck driver and I've had a few dash cameras. Including two others from Rexing, which have been great. This new model though, is a huge leap forward! Right out of the box you can tell it's quality made, it's got some weight to it, but it's small and sleek looking. All the wiring is well made too and it comes with a hard wire kit to bypass 12v plugs that lose power when the ignition is off. Plus they even include the SD card, very thoughtful additions that I haven't seen before. The picture quality on my two previous Rexing cameras was good but this new one is amazing! The touch screen is a huge upgrade, making it faster and easier to access the features I'm looking for. My favorite part of this new model is the second camera intended for the rear of the vehicle. I have mine mounted on the passenger side of my semi truck, looking out the side window at my blindspot area. This is where most accidents can start in a big vehicle from cars merging onto the highway and forward looking cameras just don't capture it. Along with the GPS and speed recording, I know this will be a great "witness" if I ever have to rely on it. The parking sensor feature gives me peace of mind when I park my truck in a truck stop to get a shower. It's common to get a bump and run in those tight parking spaces. So it's nice to know the footage will be there if I need it. I haven't tried the app as the reviews for it are mixed, so I can't speak to that part. I'm old school, so I prefer to just pop the SD card out.

I’m very happy with the Rexing R88 dual dash cam so far. The 4K front and 4K rear cameras produce extremely clear video, and the Sony STARVIS sensors handle both daytime and nighttime driving really well. The built‑in GPS and 5.8GHz Wi‑Fi are super convenient for reviewing and saving clips without having to remove the memory card, and the app connection has been smooth and quick. Installation was straightforward, the unit feels solid and discreet on the windshield, and features like loop recording, G‑sensor impact detection, and parking mode give me a lot of peace of mind whenever the car is on the road or parked. Overall, it’s a high‑quality, user‑friendly dash cam that has exceeded my expectations and feels well worth the price

I’ve been really impressed with the Rexing R88 dashcam—it feels like one of those products that just makes driving a little less stressful. The dual 4K cameras capture super clear video from both the front and back, and even at night the Sony STARVIS sensors pick up license plates and details I didn’t expect. I like how easy it is to use: the touchscreen is simple to navigate, the GPS tracks speed and routes automatically, and the Wi-Fi makes grabbing clips on my phone quick and painless. It also has handy safety features like loop recording, parking mode, and a G-sensor that locks footage if something happens. The camera itself feels solid and well-built, and since it comes with a 128GB card and hardwire kit, setup was pretty straightforward. Overall, it’s a little pricier than some others, but the peace of mind and quality definitely make it worth it.

    Decent Dash Cam

I've owned several rexing dash cams before. Namely the V1 and V1p which are the early dash cams. After those two, I tried different brands of dash cam. First impression on the Rexing R88 is that its a bit bulky. I personally review my footages in my computer or on my phone. Upon opening, I notice that the picture on the box is close to actual size of the unit which helps determine its size without having to open the box. This kit comes complete with everything you need to mount it on your vehicle. It also comes with a hardwire kit. However, it only comes with one fuse adapter which luckily works for the vehicle I'll be installing it on. The adapter won't work for my other vehicle as it uses a different type of fuse. Set up is fairly straightforward, however, both front and rear camera only has adjustment to go up and down. The front camera lens is already protruding, and would be good to be able to adjust it a bit to go left and right to easily center the camera view. Wifi connection is fairly quick in either 2.4 or 5.8. But seems the app loads a bit slow especially when switching between windows. I would have to restart the app just to resume what I'm doing. What I like about the app is when Im reviewing the videos, I don't have to exit the video I'm currently watching to check another video as the file title is on the left side already. For the important stuff, video quality. I compared this to my other dash cam thats advertised as 4k as well. For night driving, video quality is not as good. Following cars around me in a safe distance, their license plate does not register on the screen. It requires me to be about a car length for 3 seconds until the license plate becomes visible on the video. Daylight driving is similar results. I tested this when the sun is directly in front of me. The glare is too much at time. But the video quality is good. License plate does not register if you're over 2 cars away despite being on screen for long period of time. Parking mode works as described. Overall, this is a good complete kit as it comes everything you need in one purchase.

I received the R88 very fast after purchasing. I took it with me over the weekend to a trip far out into Nevada and overall, I’m very happy with the upgrade. I have Rexing dash cams in all of my vehicles and this one specifically replaced my trusty V1P Pro. I will say that the video quality at 4k was absolutely breathtaking compared to my 1080p cam before. Usually, when sensors are advertised, they are a bit of an overstatement; but I can confirm that whatever the upgraded Starvis 2 sensor provides, it is fantastic. I was able to watch back footage from the middle of nowhere and see almost everything in view. I didn't get to test how the sensors work when someone is behind you in the middle of nowhere though (the only light source). In populated areas, it cuts through the headlights and taillights to present clear video though. License plates were indeed still hard to read, as another reviewer pointed out. Setup was pretty straightforward. I already had manually hardwired my previous cam, so installation was a breeze, as I just had to follow the line to replace it with the newer USB-C kit. I do appreciate that with the higher cost, we also get the installation kit and the 128GB SD card, as these are often overlooked and must be purchased separately. Routing the rear camera cable took a bit of time, and I found the extension to be way too long for my Xterra, but that is a very good problem to have in my mind. I just ziptied the excess under the dash. The touchscreen was responsive enough. You don't spend much time on these messing with them after installation anyways though, so I am still happy that the screen is so good for the price. The size for viewing is definitely welcome as it is much bigger than anything I've used previously, and the built-in GPS and parking sensor is awesome. I've never had these features before so it's nice in case I need to use them! I've always disliked not having the G-sensor included in other cameras. I did have issues with transferring video to my phone, but I take it as more of an app issue and not with the actual connection to the camera. I've had previous issues with the V1P Pro as well, but it's never been too bad because I just take the sd card out if I want some recordings. I also dislike the mounting method being only adhesive simply because my V1P Pro often came off when traveling to high desert type climates where it's frigid at night and extremely hot during the day. Time will tell if this adhesive is better, but for now it seems much stronger than previous camera mounting pads. This is a very expensive dash cam, but you get pretty much everything you need in one, tightly condensed package. I appreciate the quality that comes with the price, and I don't feel anything is necessarily skimped out on. Over time, I hope that the app improves more, but that's a very minor gripe!

I’ve been using Rexing since I came back to the US. I tend to buy a new Rexing camera each time I obtain a new car, so this is my 5th Rexing in 10yrs. The camera itself is really nice. Visually, the best Rexing I’ve had. The screen easily splits both front and rear camera feeds. Downside, is it’s a bit larger than my other Rexing (about the size of my wallet), so hiding it behind/under the rear-view mirror without seeing the screen is virtually non-existent (while driving, I don’t necessarily like to see the screen – especially at night), but this is a personal preference and not really a hit on the camera itself. The camera can see beyond the sides of the car, which is very nice. With the slope of my windshield, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get it all. The rear camera is small and compact, tucked in the upper edge of the back window; I can barely see it in my rear view mirror. When the camera connects to the app, the app is great. Videos are clear. Sound is clear. All good. However, it keeps disconnecting from the app. (Now I am not sure if that is my phone disconnecting from the camera’s wifi or the camera itself; the fact I haven’t seen much for comments about the app/wifi makes me believe it’s my Android phone) My issues: -Cables. By now, I would think they could make use of 90deg connectors to minimize what protrudes out of the sides; or top side connectors. Instead, due to install, there are these connectors sticking out of the side by about 2in (which may not seem like much, but anything extra in a windshield can be distracting). Now mine is hard wired in, so the cables come out of the sides and up through the top (which I don’t see as they follow the stem of the rear-view mirror), so no extra wires hanging off the dash into the center console. -Mounting. Previous models had a bracket that you stick on the window and the camera slides on/off. Not the case here (unless I am greatly doing something wrong here). So this means the camera doesn’t come back off the windshield. Bit of an issue for people like me who likes to set the camera up in hand (I usually connect to an adapter in the wall). Now you’re forced to before install, or forced to do it while it’s hanging in the window. Also, if you’re a bit inept like me, getting the SD card out isn’t the easiest thing to do without removing the camera from the windshield. The only thing I can’t provide experience on yet is longevity. Now, Rexing has done well with cameras in the FL heat. However, what seems to fail are the memory cards (typically I have to buy a new card every 2yrs). I can only assume this Rexing is built to last. I can only hope the card that came with the camera is also built to last. Honestly, for the price, I am not sure I’m sold. My wife’s car still has the V55, for which we paid less than ½ of the R88, which is an amazing camera. (although after 4yrs, the onboard screen stopped working, but it’s recording just fine still, so I am not super worried). Comparing the two today, I have a hard time believing the R88 is worth the extra $250 over the V55. Overall, it’s a great camera, albeit very expensive compared to some of Rexing other great cameras. For the camera itself, I give 4* (loses a star for the fact it’s a 1-piece and not a bracket/camera set and the cables sticking out both sides). But when adding the price, I give it 3*, as Rexing has cheaper models that do just as well.

The Rexing R88 Dash Cam stands out as an impressive choice for drivers seeking reliable and high-quality recording equipment. Its installation, particularly with a hard wire setup, results in a neat appearance that closely resembles original equipment. There are no dangling or unsightly wires, which enhances both its aesthetics and practicality. The device feels solid in hand, indicative of its quality construction and durable build. This dash cam excels in video quality, thanks to its Sony STARVIS sensors. Both the front and rear cameras capture sharp, detailed footage, regardless of whether it is day or night. The clarity is notable, with license plates remaining easy to read even in low light conditions. Importantly, the camera’s image processing ensures that headlights or shadows do not wash out the recorded image, maintaining crucial visibility and detail in all lighting scenarios. The Rexing R88 includes GPS logging, which automatically stamps speed, location, and time onto each recording. This feature is particularly valuable as it provides clear, objective evidence in case of an accident, supporting claims with accurate data. The dash cam’s dual 4K capability and thoughtful features make it a comprehensive solution for those who want both performance and dependability. In summary, the Rexing R88 Dash Cam is a high-performing, dual 4K device that checks all the boxes for image quality, useful features, and a durable build. Its blend of functionality and robust design make it a top choice for anyone looking to enhance their vehicle’s recording capabilities.
