Customer Ratings & Reviews

I received the new Rexing Universal OBD II Scanner a week ago and was anxious to try it out on my Toyota Prius V. Refer to your car's owner manual to locate the OBD port. Plug it in, and it's ready to read your diagnostic codes. The user interface is good, though it has a learning curve for locating a specific test. The screen quality is very good and easy to read. I'm not a mechanic, but this helped me locate a problem with my car. Over the past month, the 12-volt battery was draining quickly, and I couldn't figure out what was running after the car was shut off. I took it to my local Toyota dealer, who ran their tests and unplugged several wires from the fuse box. Suspected my dash cam. It ran fine for a couple of days, but was dead in 48 hours again. So I returned to Toyota for more diagnostics. They couldn't find anything else wrong. I would charge up the battery, drive a day, and then it would be dead again. Thankfully, the Rexing OBD arrived, so I tried it. Guess what? The diagnostics reported a weak battery. I returned to Toyota and asked to have the battery replaced. Everything is working great now. Toyota reimbursed me for the previous visits. Thank you, Rexing.

I already own a more expensive BlueDriver Pro scanner and use it regularly. Most of the time it stays in our RV since that's the vehicle most likely to throw a check engine light. I bought this Rexing scanner to keep in our truck for those times we're away from home and don't have reliable internet access. What I've come to appreciate most is that this scanner has its own built-in display. Unlike Bluetooth scanners that require pairing with a phone and opening an app, I can simply plug it into the OBD II port and immediately read the codes. It's fast, convenient, and doesn't depend on my phone or a data connection. The BlueDriver provides more detailed diagnostics and additional information, so if I need to do in-depth troubleshooting, it's still my go-to tool. But in the field, that's usually not what I'm looking for. Most of the time I simply want to know what code was triggered and what it means so I can decide whether it's safe to continue driving or if the vehicle needs immediate attention. This scanner does that very well. I'm honestly surprised by how much I enjoy using this little tool. Having a dedicated screen turns out to be more convenient than pairing my phone to a Bluetooth OBD II device every time I need to read a code. It's simple, reliable, and exactly the kind of tool I like to keep in the glove box for peace of mind. If you're looking for an affordable code reader that quickly identifies engine codes without the hassle of using your phone and downloading an app, this is an excellent choice.

This product has paid for itself just after the first use only. I had my check engine light come on and every mechanic near me wanted at least $100 just to read the code. I bought this to see if it would read it for me and it did, I was already saving. It read the code without issue, it was a small EVAP leak, read online about it and got a new gas cap. I erased the code with this scanner and it has not come back at all. So this thing has saved me a bunch already and now will use it in the future to see what code pops up so I know what is wrong before I bring it in for service so I know they are not trying to do work that does not need to be done. I also read the manual and tried out the other functions, the battery voltage works fine, that will come in handy in the winter for sure. Also, I like how it has a code dictionary on it as well, so that way I can at least look it up without having to pull out my cellphone. The screen is easy to read and bright. I also like the Live Data option, it lets you see a ton of stats. Overall I am very happy with this and would for sure recommend it.

This Rexing scanner works incredibly well for basic diagnoses. The tool is very user friendly, not at all hard to navigate, pretty generous screen for those who prefer cleaner visual, and a big plus not needing some additional application to make it work. Would definitely recommend for this price. Tool does all the basics that satisfy my needs

I'm not a mechanic by any means, so I was always using an elm327. However that unit required you to have an app to connect to in order to diagnose the car. Most apps were paid for if you wanted all the features as well. Then Rexing came along with this unit, which has it's own built in screen and renders the elm, for my purposes, pointless. Aside from being able to view the check engine light codes (and clearing them), you're able to see realtime live data as well (usually a paid for feature in apps. This unit also supports many other features I've no idea how to use yet, but I like that they're there, IF it came to me NEEDing to utilize them. Screen is ample large and bright enough, as well as the layout is intuitive and simple. If I were to change ONE thing, that would be to make the cable longer. It's got a good length now, but different vehicles put the OBD2 port in different locations, and that extra foot or two of cable would definitely help. Overall a solid product.

This OBDII scanner worked exactly as advertised. I tested it on my 2018 Mazda 3, and it connected to the vehicle within seconds. It quickly read the stored check engine code, and after fixing the issue, I was able to clear the code with no problems. The menu is straightforward, the screen is easy to read, and the device is simple to use even if you’re not a professional mechanic. It feels solid and doesn’t require any apps or subscriptions just plug it into the OBDII port and it’s ready to go. For the price, it’s an excellent tool to keep in your car or garage. Highly recommended.

So far, I'm enjoying this OBD2 sensor a lot. I recently upgraded from a bluetooth-only sensor (no screen, need to pair with an app), and it's really nice that this sensor has a screen, giving you an all-in-one interface to your car. Successfully diagnosed my wife's evap code with ease! Prob most unique feature IMO however is the dictionary lookup of codes (picture attached) - this lets you self-diagnose your issue when you don't your cell phone handy (or cell service) to tell you what your particular CEL code means!

Happy with the product. Does what it says and has a nice screen to display the info. Fairly intuitive to get through the menus.

The Rexing Universal OBD II Scanner is an affordable scanner for basic diagnostics and check engine lights. You just plug it into the OBD port and it works immediately without needing to install an app or Bluetooth. The interface is easy to navigate, and it quickly reads and clears codes while also showing useful live data and emissions monitor info. This device is great for regular drivers, but I'm sure mechanics would find this very useful. Overall, it’s a reliable and beginner-friendly scanner that does exactly what most people need for the price.

Product came quick. I was looking to add an OBD scanner to my DIY drawer and this is exactly what I was looking for. It is simple to set up and use right out of the box. Screen us large enough to read and it's clear. It helped me instantly check & clear an engine light on my wife's vehicle. Local repair shop wanted $100 just to check the code and clear it. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to check codes to see if it can be cleared or an easy replacement part that can be done at home.

I've been buying Rexing dash cam products and they are all reliable. Now, they are into the OBD-II scanner field and I'm sure this product will be reliable too! This product is very user-friendly. The display and texts are very legible. I was able to scan and check my battery's voltage when engine is off and when engine is on! It also shows me my car's VIN, O2 sensor readings, etc. Hopefully, I won't be using this device for CEL in the future!

This is my first OBD reader. For years, I felt blind about what was happening with my cars—whether a code didn't show up on the dashboard or when a check engine light actually came on. I couldn't be happier with this fantastic tool. As a first-time user, I am really impressed with all the data I can see and understand. Thanks to its simplicity and intuitive user interface, menus navigation, it is user-friendly, and the screen quality is excellent for its 2.8in LCD size. I also really appreciate that it comes with a physical instruction manual instead of forcing you to download a PDF file like other brands do. I have three cars: a 2013 Subaru Forester, a 2023 Subaru Crosstrek, and a 2020 Kia Sportage. I was eager to try this reader on all three and ended up learning a lot. For example, I discovered the Sportage had been having low voltage issues for quite a while, which I wasn't aware of because there was no dashboard error. It turns out that the LoJack tracking device installed on the vehicle was draining too much power from the battery while the engine was off. I was able to fix this immediately by extending the unit's polling time! Meanwhile, the Forester reported a 10-degree higher engine temperature than normal, which is something I now know to address by replacing the coolant or checking the fans. I dare say that thanks to the Rexing OBD II, I saved myself from potentially getting stranded on the highway. This reader is truly plug-and-play. There is no setup required—you just connect it to the car’s OBD port and that’s it. It doesn't require internet access, creating a user account, or the process of gathering data first and then connect to a computer in order to read the codes. You don't have to deal with Bluetooth pairing or installing a smartphone app just to access your data like you do with other units. Thanks to the built-in display, I can see live data. Best of all, it doesn’t need batteries, and I can easily clear check engine light or emission codes without having to disconnect the car battery to clear error codes as I used to do before getting this reader. I already own a few other Rexing devices (a dashcam and a wireless car adapter), and all of them work great. It is a reputable brand with quality products, and this reader is no exception. The Rexing OBD II is a very affordable, useful tool that you can easily keep in your car or truck to quickly diagnose issues on the fly. I am incredibly pleased with this reader!

This a nice little tool to keep around for troubleshooting those pesky DTC codes. It plugs right in, powers on instantly, and you can quickly scan and delete codes. There is a pretty simple onscreen menu, and was easy enough to find my way around to check out the different modes. I'll definitely keep this on hand for the next time a code pops up and save myself a trip to Autozone.

Whenever your check engine light comes on, you usually need to drive to an auto store and have them check it out and sometimes reset the code. And what does the code even mean? Well with this handy gadget, you can keep it in your vehicle, and when something goes wrong in the computer or check engine light, you can check and see what the issue is. You can even clear common codes like the hood is unlatched or the gas cap was not tight enough. Having the ability to look up the codes is a great way to check on minor things and keep your vehicle running smoothly. What I love about this one, is that it's full color, has icons, and a menu, and seems very in-depth. I used a similar one before that cost the same, but it was hard to understand the symbols and I had to look them up to understand. Rexing always makes great products! 5 Stars for this as well!

I recently picked up the Rexing OBDII-R1 and so far it’s been a solid little scanner. Setup was simple — just plug it into the OBD2 port and it powers on right away. The interface is easy to navigate and it quickly reads codes and vehicle information without any hassle. One thing I really like is the amount of information it gives you beyond just reading engine codes. Features like voltage monitoring, the built-in code library, live data view, vehicle information display, and freeze frame playback make it feel more useful than a basic scanner. I also like that the freeze frame feature lets you go back and look at stored data afterward instead of trying to catch everything in real time. One small issue I noticed is when reading DTCs, the screen says “press any key” to continue, but pressing the OK button keeps it reading instead of moving forward. You have to press a different button for it to continue, which was a little confusing at first.

The Rexing Universal OBD2 Scanner is straightforward and does exactly what you need it to do. It’s easy to connect, easy to navigate, and makes checking trouble codes simple without a lot of unnecessary features getting in the way. The biggest benefit is being able to diagnose basic check-engine-light issues yourself before paying a shop just to tell you what’s wrong. For simple problems that you can fix on your own, this scanner can easily save you money in diagnostic fees. It also gives you a better idea of what you’re dealing with before taking the car to a mechanic, which is useful even if you don’t plan on doing the repair yourself. The main limitation is that it’s still a basic OBD2 scanner, so don’t expect the advanced diagnostics, programming, or manufacturer-specific functions you’d get from a professional scan tool. Also, a trouble code doesn’t always tell you exactly which part needs replacing—you may still need to do some additional troubleshooting. Overall, it’s a handy, straightforward tool to keep around if you do basic maintenance or repairs on your own. For the price, it can pay for itself pretty quickly.

I own a 2018 Honda CR-V and a 2006 Honda CR-V and often work on the car myself to avoid going to a mechanics shop when possible. This is a very useful OBD II scanner since its very easy to use and the UI is pretty easy to understand. Having an OBD II scanner is useful and if you are like me and like to work on your own cars this tool can save you from having to take your car to a mechanic shop. The entire unit is self-contained meaning there is no bluetooth or app you have to download or have to signup for. You just plug the unit into your car and you are good to go. It does quite a bit more than just display an engine code. You can clear codes, view live data, check battery voltage, and use the built-in code lookup to get a better idea of what a code actually means. That's especially useful if you just want some basic information before deciding whether something is an easy fix or needs to go to a mechanic. Overall, it's simple, convenient, and a great tool to keep in the garage or even in the vehicle. Definitely useful for taking some of the mystery out of a check engine light. The Rexing OBD II scanner did not find anything wrong with my vehicle.

This is my missing piece for tuning. I have a tuning tablet that has a display but drains my battery if I forget to turn it off. I have a bluetooth OBD2 adapter but I have to manually connect a phone and dedicate the phone as a display. This unit is very simple and just works. I have a OBD2 splitter and it works perfectly with another device plugged in at the same time. I can leave this connected and always have a live display. I have been able to use it on a fe different cars with no problems. You can quickly read and clear engine codes, check emissions, and read live data, This thing is dead simple and just works. You don't need to set it up with a phone or a computer. You can just plug this in ad be on your way with the built in screen and physical buttons. This is a pro when working on a car and you have dirty hands. I would definitely recommend this unit as a good value for amateurs and pros.

I used the Rexing Universal OBD II Scanner on my 2018 Toyota Camry, and it paid for itself right away. The OBD II port on my Camry is under the dash near the driver's knee, was easy to plugin. The scanner powers up from the car, so no batteries needed. The screen is easy to read, and the physical buttons make the menus simple to follow. It helped me spot a battery issue. The voltage reading was lower and allowed me to catch it, before I was stranded. Without this scanner I wouldn't have known until the car failed to start. The built-in code library also explains what each code means. It's focused mainly on engine and emissions diagnostics, so it won't read ABS or airbag codes. Still, its extremely useful to catch early issues and avoiding a surprise breakdown, it's a great value and easy to keep in the car.

Scanner is compact and feels great. Super easy to use, has instructions in case you never used a scanner before. Screen looks great. Would recomend to have in your trunk in case you need it.
