The Ring Battery Doorbell is as advertised. The battery is easy to install when needed. The picture quality is perfect. When there is action, I can clearly see what is happening. I live in a more rural area. I like to view the animals which come to visit. It gives me joy to see them in my front yard. This camera lights up the area and gives me a safe view of my visitors. No regrets!

This is fantastic. What problem I have with it is that I keep looking at my phone! Although I have to say it’s much bigger than I thought, and I had to mount it with a swivel bracket on the front door of my apartment and it does look rather huge, but as long as no one complains, I’m good to go!

I like the way it shows real time actions however once the free trial ends it seems like nothing works anymore. If you have a subscription you're all good but there's little to none support if you don't buy the subscription.

    Better whole body image

I have been sing Ring products for our home for over a year now, and our new home has multiple areas that require camera coverage. Having the Battery Doorbell Smart has been such a great relief for us, knowing that I can see that half of our property with very clear image and video quality. When opening the package, I was met with the standard Ring camera design. I noticed that this was much slimmer to my other Ring door camera. Setting up was very simple and easy since I already have the app and other devices. I like that you can have all of your devices on the app show multiple coverages and the ability to see the live feed or real time notifications. What really set me over the moon was the battery charges via usb-c! Other Ring devices still use the microsd charging cable and I was very happy now that this has been upgraded. Mounting the plate to my fence was a little concerning for me. I began screwing it on each corner with the included screws when I noticed that after just one screw, the plat began to bend. I quickly screwed in the opposite corner and then the rest so now it was flushed with the gate. Due to the momentary warp, the camera did not slide in as easy. It did with little moving around and now it was connected to the plate. To remove it, you are given a small orange key pin that wedges inside in order to open it. The image and video quality is great. It records video in 2k quality which is great. This has an enhanced camera so now you get more whole body capturing, not just the upper torso of someone, also, the night vision quality is up to 19ft which takes it all the way to my sidewalk. Having it on the door it gets plenty hot here, thankfully it can withstand up to 122 degrees Fahrenheit (so far not that hot). Battery life has been really excellent, having it installed and running for the past two weeks, battery life is currently at 85%. A great addition to the Ring family. I do wish the little key hook would have been something more larger, but at least it can hook to your keys so you would not lose it.

Peace-of-mind visibility for your front door.

Ring - Battery Doorbell Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell Summary: Peace-of-mind visibility for your front door. Use: We recently sold our home which I had installed a vast set of Ring ecosystem products including but not limited to Ring Doorbell (wired), Ring Base Station and keypad with security service subscription, Floodlight Cam, Cameras (wired), Cameras (battery). These products proved to be more reliable than any other brand I tried. So, when we moved into an apartment in another state, we needed something that would be allowed and that would work without being wired. The Ring Battery Doorbell fit that need to a T. We have the device mounted across from our front-door to allow us clear visibility of our front-door without having it view more than needed (i.e. into the courtyard where neighboring unit's windows and balconies are visible). Had we mounted the unit directly on our front-door, we would have used the black out privacy feature (which worked well in other implementations). Why did I get a Ring Doorbell for my apartment? Mainly for packages! Also, given the unique walk-up/courtyard, there shouldn't ever be any persons other than ourselves, or our dogs come into view. This allows us to get notifications when that space is entered - this grants us time to stow the doggies and accept packages. Being alerted to packaged delivery would be the second reason. Pros: * Portability. The form factor is reasonable, and it is extremely portable. The mounting/dismounting bracket tool makes it easy to snap the unit off and on for charging. * Battery Life. Though I've only had the unit about a week, in that time only a percentage point or two of battery has dropped. We've increased some sensitivity to register more movement and to allow live snapshots, but it was a recent change and so it is unclear just how much of a drain those features will be. Two days configured like this and the combined battery life since install is 96%. I'm anticipating having to recharge this every few months at this rate. * Volume. The speaker volume for two-way and notifications (doorbell press) is more than adequate. Though this isn't a feature we anticipate needing often. * Video Quality. As is often the case with battery units, the video quality is mostly stable and detailed enough. For monitoring activity like package delivery and identification, I feel it does fine. * App. There is a single app to manage all of your Ring devices. It even integrates with Amazon Prime deliveries, if enabled. It even enables the management of user codes for compatible door locks. * Ecosystem. The ecosystem is rich with a product to cover virtually any need. Definitely a good buy if you're interested in expanding the system. * Mounting Bracket. The mounting bracket is different than the ones I've seen with other models. Instead of a special star tip driver to remove the faceplate/device, you need a special tool that is curved. This tool reaches up into the device to release a latch that allows the unit to be removed from the mounting bracket. This makes potential theft a bit more tricky (though obviously not impossible). Cons: * Lag. I've noticed some lag in video display when clicking Live-View. This is typical of all wireless doorbells, though, and common for battery powered ones, in particular. * Outdoor placement. The first day, I thought I'd just prop the unit inside my windowsill to see how it did with detection. Sure, no one would be able to press the doorbell, but I just wanted to get it going to see how it did until I had time to mount it the next day (it arrived late afternoon). Well... it doesn't work from inside a window. It wouldn't detect any motion through single-paned glass. It would record and visibility was great when manually viewing the camera, but it simply won't detect any movement from behind glass. I figured the IR sensor might be to blame. Obviously, not a deal breaker and I realize that their regular stick-up cams would be purpose built - but I guess I was still surprised! * Local Storage. I know the Base Station can now support local processing of videos. A local storage option would be great for people with less reliable connections, or that aren't interested in the security offering, or that don't want to pay a monthly subscription for features they might not use. I had reservations about a battery powered doorbell. I've tested several other major brand competitor products and while there are some common pitfalls (latency/lag for battery devices), Ring products are superior and more reliable than any of the others. I'm pleased to say that this version is a marked upgrade from other battery powered doorbells offered by Ring and its competitors. I definitely recommend it if you can't install a wired unit.

This is my second video doorbell from Ring. This latest model has an internal battery and can be used wirelessly or hardwired versus my hardwire-only unit. The unit comes with a USB-C charging cable, release tool, wall mounting bracket, security sticker and installation hardware. Note that it doesn’t come with a USB wall adapter, but you can plug it into any powered USB port for charging. There are screw terminals adjacent to the charging port giving you the option to hardwire the doorbell for permanent power instead. This is convenient if you already have existing wiring and a compatible transformer, so you won’t have to take the doorbell down to charge it. The doorbell unhooks from its mount with a simple press of the tab on the underside, which doesn’t specifically require the included release tool; a flathead screwdriver would work just fine, but that means it isn’t secured well against theft or tampering. The amount of time the batteries last will depend on your settings, ambient temperature, and how often video is recorded or the camera is accessed and for how long; on average the battery life of mine decreases by about 2% each day. You’ll need to download and install the Ring mobile app to a smart device in order to setup the doorbell. App setup takes around 5 minutes and requires you to create or log in to a Ring account, while installing and mounting of the camera took me an additional 5 minutes to complete. You can optionally link your Ring and Amazon accounts, which enables features like Alexa voice commands and Amazon Key In-Garage Delivery. The purchase and setup of a new Ring camera includes a 30-day free trial of a Ring Protect Plan, regardless of whether or not you’ve had a trial in the past (current subscribers excluded). The plan offers video history up to 180 days for every Ring camera in your home, 24-hour event summaries, discounts on other Ring products, and multi-cam live view. You’ll also be able to enable smart alerts that detect people, packages, or general motion with the option to record and/or send an alert for these events; every live view session will also automatically be recorded. Videos and snapshots within your history interval will be stored on the cloud where you can download them at any time while you have an active subscription. Without a plan, you’ll only be able to watch live view of the doorbell and respond to motion and doorbell notifications when they happen in real-time, but video is not recorded or saved. The integrated camera features a head-to-toe, wide field of view with 1440p HD video, color night vision, and 2-way talk. The video is square and its frame size is 1440 x 1440 pixels. The visible image is circular with vignetting of the corners (blacked out) and a slight fisheye effect that causes distortion of proportions as you move outward from the center of the image. This, however, is an acceptable trade-off in order to view nearly straight down to the area beneath the doorbell, making it more likely that packages placed there will be visible on camera. There are wedges for the mount, sold separately, that you can use to tilt the camera to face a different angle, if needed. When someone is standing in front of the doorbell camera, in live view you can use 2-way talk to communicate through the app and the unit’s built-in microphone. Audio quality is good, and you can generally hear and understand conversations in front of and directed at the doorbell. The speaker quality on the doorbell is also pretty loud and clear so your visitor should have no trouble hearing you. When the doorbell button is pressed, I receive push notifications on my phone, and the Alexa speakers throughout my home "ring" and make an announcement. Announcements can be enabled for person or motion detection, though you can customize detection zones separately for motion, people, and packages to lower the incidence of nuisance alerts. At night, the night vision infrared lights create a black and white image that is as bright, detailed, and clear as daytime footage. Optionally, you can enable color night vision which adds color to the image, though note that this will not retroactively add color to previously recorded nighttime video with the setting turned off. Overall, the Ring Battery Doorbell (2024) is a decent smart doorbell camera with good audio and video quality but requires a subscription to get the most out of it. As a doorbell, all of my Alexa speakers become chimes, and I don’t have to run any wires. However, I can always convert it to be permanently powered by wire if I don’t want to keep taking the doorbell down to charge the battery every few months. With a subscription I can rest assured that I'll be notified of events like motion, people, and packages and have recordings going back 6 months.
