Piece of junk. It Worked one week until the battery went dead. The solar panel adds no power. It has stopped working altogether. Even with many sunny days.

      Hi PhilipC.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

We understand how critical it is for your Ring Smart Lighting Solar Floodlight's battery life to last. With direct sunlight, the solar panel should keep your lights powered so that they can continue to light up your yard when there is motion. Rest assured, we would be happy to work with you to ensure your device is setup optimally for your home's environment.

One of the most important considerations when installing your Solar Smart Lights is placing them so that they get adequate sunlight to maintain their charge year-round. This article will help you place and maintain your Smart Solar Lights so they stay bright when you need them.

The first step in maintaining a good solar charge throughout the year is ensuring your Smart Solar Light is properly installed in a well-lit area that receives direct sunlight for several hours per day. "Direct sunlight" is when the sun hits your solar panels in a perpendicular fashion.

To ensure your solar panel receives direct sunlight, your device should be unobstructed by shade from trees or nearby structures, such as a home's shadow, overhangs, or trees. By ensuring your lights are mounted with a clear view of the sun’s rays, you will maintain a steady charge rate during the day.

      Hello PinkPanther,

Thank you for writing your review and taking the time to share your experience with us directly. We understand the importance of having your Ring Smart Floodlights withstand the outdoor elements and perform well for you in wet or dry conditions. Having them functional ensures you are able to monitor movement around your home anytime, day or night. We are here to provide you with some solutions to resolve your concerns quickly.

Condensation is a natural process in which water condenses from the air and forms small droplets within the light. This happens primarily due to the cooling effect when your lights turn off or as the light itself cools when the sun goes down. Smart Lights are engineered to resist this type of moisture and they present no threat to the operation of your light. Leaking water, on the other hand, is the result of some sort of defect or damage in the body of the light. This type of water may come from different sources, such as rain, a water sprinkler, or runoff from a hose. This type of water may present a threat to the operation of your light and you should immediately take steps to prevent damage. Please refer to this helpful article for further information: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360032163591-Condensation-in-your-Smart-Lights.

      Hi AKReviews.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is for your Ring Smart Lighting Solar Floodlight to function consistently and reliably, so you can effectively monitor your home. The features and technology provided by the Ring Smart Lighting Solar Floodlight are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We want to ensure your device is working as intended by providing you with solutions to resolve the concern you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like the device is not performing as expected with regards to setup and connection. The Ring Smart Lighting Solar Floodlight shines up to 1200 lumens of white light onto driveways, backyards and large areas when motion is detected. It connects to Ring Bridge, Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) or Echo (4th Gen) for smart controls.

We are happy to share the following information with you regarding the setup of the Ring Smart Lighting Solar Floodlight in the Ring app. If there is an update available for your Ring app, please update it before you begin. Remind any shared users to update their app too. Updating the app ensures that everyone on your account will be able to see this new device.
Be sure to install and set up your Bridge before installing and setting up your Smart Solar Lights. You will need to have a Ring Bridge installed and set up in order to connect your Smart Solar Lights to the Ring App and the rest of your Ring devices. For the best connectivity and performance, we recommend plugging the Ring Bridge in as close to the Ring Smart Lighting device as possible.

To ensure optimal performance we recommend pre-charging the battery in your Smart Lighting Solar Floodlight before use. To remove the battery for charging:
Twist your Floodlight counterclockwise and separate it from the back cover.
Press down on the metal tab and pull the battery out of the battery compartment.
Remove the two protective stickers from each end of the pack and plug in the included micro USB cord to the battery pack, then into a USB power supply.
There will be two LEDs lit on the battery while it is charging, when only one LED is lit the pack is fully charged.
Note: Charge the pack at least 12 hours before initial use.

Step One - Select Set Up a Device:

Open the side menu by tapping the three parallel lines in the upper left-hand corner of the Ring app.

      Tap “Set Up a Device.”
      Tap “Smart Lighting.”
      Select your location.
Step Two - Scan the QR Code on Your Device:

Twist your Floodlight counter-clockwise to unlock and separate it from the back cover.
Use your mobile device to scan the QR code inside of the battery compartment of your Solar Floodlight.
This code can also be found on the product packaging of your Solar Floodlight.
If your mobile device is not scanning the QR code, you can select “Set Up Without Scanning” and enter the five-digit PIN code underneath your device’s QR code to add your device.

Step Three - Insert Quick Release Battery Pack into Your Solar Floodlight:

Remove the Quick Release Battery pack by pressing in on the metal tab and pulling the battery out of the floodlight.

Carefully remove and discard the two battery strips on the included battery.
Insert the included battery into the floodlight and push until it snaps into place.
If you like, you can purchase a second battery to make your floodlight last longer during cloudy periods.
Replace the back cover and twist clockwise to lock into place.
The light will blink twice when fully powered up. When this happens, press “Continue” in your Ring app and follow the prompts on your mobile device.
Step Four - Add Your Solar Floodlight to a Light Group:
Select the light Group you’d like to add your Floodlight to.
If you’d like to create a new group that is not listed, you can select “Custom…” and type a new group name.

      Hello Joyce,

Thank you for taking the time to share your Ring Floodlight experience with us. We understand the importance of having the batteries last in your home’s environment, so these support calls are not necessary. Rest assured, we are here to provide you with information to resolve your concern.

To get the most life out of your batteries, Ring recommends at least three to four hours of direct sunlight, depending on your usage. Make sure there are no obstructions that could cast a shadow on your solar power device, such as an extended roof, tree branches, or bushes. If your installation area is frequently very cloudy or gets a lot of rain or snow, this could limit the amount of sunlight that your solar power device receives.

Here is a helpful article that elaborates on some factors that could be causing the unnecessary battery drainage: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041789191-Troubleshooting-Unexpected-Battery-Drain-in-Ring-Solar-Smart-Lights. Customers can expect about a year of battery life when they keep the brightness at 50% and have the lights activate in 30 second intervals.

We invite you to reach out at https://community.ring.com/if any additional information is needed regarding the Floodlight. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences with Ring.

Big fat waste of time and money

You do need some kind of device to control this unit, it will not work on its own. Even with the Bridge it still won't work the way it's supposed to. Lights off during the day...nope, they still come on. Motion sensor light comes on at night? Nope, only can have them on or off. Motion sensor did not work at night. The lights weren't very bright either. This was a waste of time. Returned it. Will be putting a hard line in for a real motion sensor light.
