Pros:
Great light output
Recharges well in the sun
Easy app integration with other Ring products
Easy mounting with bracket
Manual recharge option if needed
Cons:
Nothing really
I have been very happy with this solar motion light. It puts a great amount of light for something that is solar powered. Uses 2 18650 Li-Ion batteries. The mounting plate just screws in with 2 screws. The light then slides onto it. If you have them in an area that doesn't get the best sunlight, you can easily slide it off and bring it inside to recharge with a micro USB plug.
Motion range is about 20-25 feet, which is maybe a little low, but reasonable. Integrates great with the Ring app and can trigger other cameras or lights to come on when it senses motion.
I have put 2 of these up so far. One as shown on a shed that does get a good amount of sun. It gets maybe 5-10 triggers or so on average and has stayed about 80% on the batteries even over multiple cloudy days then gets up to 100% when the sun comes back out.
Second one gets maybe an hour of sun most days, but only has a few triggers each day and usually stays in the 90% for battery charge.
I really couldn't be happier with these. They are a great way to add some light to a spot you don't like running a wire to. Very much recommended. You do need the Ring bridge to use them and that is a cost if you aren't already in Ring's light platform, but it is a one time cost.

Great Product…When it Worked

Bought this light to go over our garage as we don’t have many outside lights. It worked great for about three weeks and just died. Fortunately, Best Buy has a great return policy. Hopefully the next one will work better. When it worked, though, it put out plenty of light. I also purchased about a half dozen other ring products at the same time and they haven’t had any issues. Maybe this was just one bad apple

Hello jtrippe,
We value the experience you have with Ring, and want to ensure the Ring Smart Solar Wall Light is meeting the standards it's intended to provide. It is essential to have peace of mind when it comes to your home security and the battery life in your Ring Light plays a big role in that. This device is designed to be a DIY home security solution that can be trusted to provide you with lasting coverage. The Ring Wall Light Solar has a built-in solar panel. Simply install the device in direct sunlight for consistent recharging and power storage. If there is not enough sunlight where you’d like to place the device, you can also remove the device from the wall and recharge the included rechargeable batteries with a micro-USB cable. The Ring Wall Light Solar can also be connected to an additional Ring Solar Panel. If the Wall Light Solar is in a dark area with little sunlight, the Solar Panel can be attached and installed in an area with more sunlight.
While the battery in your Ring Smart Wall Light can go months between recharges with normal use. This is dependent on a number of factors in your home's environment such as the local weather, signal strength, and the motion detection settings utilized within the Ring app. Ring Smart Lights use a technology called "passive infrared" or PIR in order to detect motion. As a result, the effectiveness of your Smart Lights at detecting motion is dependent on the way your PIR sensors are set up. This article will help you understand PIR technology and how to use it for maximum effectiveness: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360029269871-Getting-the-Most-Out-of-Your-Smart-Lights-Motion-Detectors.

Great lights solar, charges slowly even on overcast day. easy setup works great with ring bridge which it must have if you using these on the app. I like the setup feature to come on low at night and get brighter when motion is detected can either be set up to come on dusk to Dawn or going to light schedule and customize time and days for it to come on. I have mine set up to come on at 9:30 p.m. until 6:00 a.m. only uses about 6% to 8% of the battery staying on low all night recharges with sunlight the next day been using them for just over 3 weeks battery has never went below 70% had a few days of rain so they didn't charge but the next few days recharged great

Probably my fav Ring product by far. Their solar lights are fantastic- huge upgrade over the regular battery ones. I own about 10 ring pathway solar lights, and now 3 of these wall lights. These are incredibly bright, super easy to mount- just 2 screws. I absolutely love the ability to sync my devices, so that motion on any light can trigger cameras to record simultaneously in other areas. Excited for more of these great products!

Got 4 of these and all have an issue. They go into a “high temperature “ status and stop solar charging. They do this with temperature only at 85 degrees, yet they need sun to charge. By the time the high temperature drops off , it’s evening so they don’t charge. After a few days of this I have to charge each one with the USB plug in charge. They are becoming a nuisance. Ring support says they go into that status to protect them. The lights when charged light up very nice.

Hi NedC.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand how important it is for your Ring Smart Lighting Solar Wall Light to function consistently and reliably, so that you can effectively monitor your home. The features and technology provided by the Ring Smart Lighting Solar Wall Light are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concern mentioned in your review.
We are happy to hear that you are enjoying the benefits of having a Ring Smart Lighting Solar Wall Light installed at your home. While Ring devices are engineered to work in a variety of weather conditions, extreme heat conditions and exposure to direct sunlight can cause overheating and damage the internal components of your Ring device. Your devices are programmed to shut down and not ring before the heat tolerance of the device is exceeded. Note that this behavior is expected and the device should reactivate when the temperature goes down.
120°F (50°C): When the environment reaches this temperature, the device will shut down immediately to avoid damaging the internal components. 113°F (45°C): While your Ring device may operate at this temperature, prolonged exposure to this level of heat may also cause the device to shut down.
When it gets hot, we recommend that you bring the entire device inside, take out the batteries, and allow both the batteries and the unit to cool to room temperature. Do not charge the batteries until they have cooled to room temperature.
To protect your batteries from further damage, Ring puts some devices in Sleep Mode. Only newer solar devices will have the Sleep Mode capability. Your device will enter Sleep Mode in these cases:
Reaches high temperature (~140˚F/60˚C) Reaches low temperature (~-5˚F/-20.5˚C) Reaches critical battery level (~10% battery or lower)
The following tips and tricks will help you use the light and motion sensors on your device to maximize battery life and reduce the number of unwanted motion alerts.
For longest battery life:
Set Light Sensors to 0 or 1 so that the lights only turn on if it's very dark. Reduce the brightness to the lowest setting. Set Group Auto Shutoff time to 30 seconds. For alkaline (replaceable) battery devices, we strongly recommend using name-brand batteries such as Amazon Basics, Duracell, or Energizer. Always use fresh batteries of the same brand. For Solar devices, we suggest you only use the included Ring-branded rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.
To reduce motion triggers:
Only enable motion on the lights that are accurately detecting motion, and let those lead lights activate the whole group. This will extend battery life as well as reduce notifications. Avoid pointing lights toward potential heat source or moving object. Heat sources and waving objects such as wind chimes might trigger motion.
To reduce daytime activation:
Set Light Sensors on devices to a low setting so the lights only turn on in the dark. For Linked Device triggers, set a time window that closely mimics darkness outside. When creating the link for a device to trigger the lights on Spotlight Cam, Floodlight Cam or another group, consider making the time schedule available later in the night to earlier in the morning.
We invite you to reach out to our community if any additional information is needed regarding your question. The Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another by sharing their feedback and experiences with each other.
Thank you, Melissa from Ring.

The light is great. It gives off plenty of light at night. The solar panel is a little small if the light gets triggered a lot. Luckily you can add another Ring 1st Gen Solar Panel, with the round connector. Being able to pair the motion part with other lights and cameras is a game changer, so awesome.

This is so much better than having to replace batteries like the original Ring outdoor light! Just put it where it will get sun and it will stay charged. Plus you can set a light schedule to have it come on at certain times or just by motion and you can select the brightness to light up more or conserve the battery.

Fantastic light. I installed this light on my shed so when I walk up at night I can see a little better. The brightness levels on this are great. I have it set to 30% the full brightness level and it is plenty good enough. The batter also lasts a nice long time.

Nice bright light that can be controlled with the Ring app. Only downside is it needs to be in a spot that gets maximum sunlight to be fully charged. It can be manually charged with a USB cable but that really not the point of having a solar powered light. Recommended especially if you have other Ring products.

The Ring solar wall light is a great addition to my Ring of security. I have 3 of these mounted to my privacy fence in the back and down the two sides to light up the yard when my dog goes out to patrol the yard at night and take care of his business. These can be linked together with other wall lights and cameras to create a nicely lit Ring of security.

Now I have tried so many solar lights on Amazon, sure they are so much more affordable, BUT none lasted long enough to provide light when sun sets. I bought this light before when it was first released, and for last few years the one I have over my garage working flawlessly providing bright last that lasts through entire night, but best part is I can incorporate it into my whole ring system, there are so many options, and that’s why I say this is the best from what’s being offered out there.

I am very familiar with Ring products and I’m always up to trying new products they put out. This item is great because it can be plugged in to a wall outlet for power and it also can be plugged into a solar panel just in case placement of this unit doesn’t get direct sunlight for solar charging. Now the light output is incredibly bright, probably brighter than the solar floodlight unit. Definitely a great security light that communicates with other Ring products.

This light is small but powerful. I love that I can turn it in and off by my phone too. The light is very bright and detects movements accurately. While it doesn’t not have a camera built in, it can be used with the bridge so it does ding my phone when it picks up on movement. I love the solar feature that’s built into it making it more attractive that the additional panel made for other ring products. It’s a great size for above entry doors and storage buildings. It’s priced fairly as well.I bought a second one after I installed it.

Just a little extra light to see the key holes and whoever’s at your door when they walk up. I have a push lock, so I can always see the digits. Brightness is adjustable, but it took away my porch light and preventing the kids from leaving thel porch area lights on all day and all night.

I was skeptical at first! Will the solar panel be big enough to keep it charged? Well, so far working great! I have it connected with a couple of Ring cameras, and the light sensor sets all of them off to work
