The solar versions of these die often. Really not happy with them. The battery versions tend to last longer but the solar panel on these failed on more than half of mine that I've had for less than a year.

Hello Jav713,
Thank you for taking the time to share your Ring Pathlight experience with us. We understand the importance of having the batteries last in your home’s environment, so these support calls are not necessary. Rest assured, we are here to provide you with information to resolve your concern.
To get the most life out of your batteries, Ring recommends at least three to four hours of direct sunlight, depending on your usage. Make sure there are no obstructions that could cast a shadow on your solar power device, such as an extended roof, tree branches, or bushes. If your installation area is frequently very cloudy or gets a lot of rain or snow, this could limit the amount of sunlight that your solar power device receives.
We invite you to reach out at https://community.ring.com/if any additional information is needed regarding the Pathlight. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences with Ring.
Thank you, Jamila with Ring.

Hi AA25,
I appreciate the value you have placed in owning Ring for your home security. I would like to address the concern you are experiencing with intermittent connection and battery life with you directly. Intermittent connection with your Ring Bridge may be caused due to too many devices connected, or interferences happening within the Smart Lighting connection. The Ring Bridge can support up to 50 Smart Lighting devices. These devices can all be in one Group or multiple Groups.
I don't want to leave you feeling unassisted with these changes or adjustments, and would like to offer you the direct assistance of one of our Smart Lighting product specialists. Please reach out to our team directly at [email protected].

Hi Ktweety.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring Solar-Powered Smart Lighting Pathlight. The Ring Solar-Powered Smart Lighting Pathlight was designed to activate based on your specific needs and recharge using solar power. We can definitely assist you with this today to ensure your Ring device is performing optimally and the proper settings are chosen within the Ring app for optimal performance.
It sounds like your Pathlight batteries are draining quickly. Battery life is dependent on device settings, usage, hours of sunlight per day, and other factors. Your Ring Smart Light Pathlight can be set to activate during the day; however, this will impact the battery life of the product and is not recommended. Be sure to check that this feature is not activated through the Ring app to ensure your battery is lasting as long as possible.
Ring Community was launched to help deliver the most current news and educational information to our neighbors. Hi Himmy. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the importance of having a solid charge on your Ring Smart Lighting Solar Pathlight so that you are able to have a longer time between charge cycles. Having longevity in a battery-powered security device, such as the Ring Smart Lighting Solar Pathlight, is crucial when it comes to monitoring your home. We want to ensure your device is working as intended by providing you with solutions to resolve the concern you mentioned in your review.
It sounds like you are concerned about the battery life of your Ring device. Ring Pathlights are part of the Ring Smart Lighting line of products that strengthens your Ring of Security while illuminating your home and property. Ring Pathlights are motion-sensing smart lights used in multiples to illuminate paths and accent landscape features. Battery-powered for easy no-wiring installation Pathlights also add further motion detection reach. While batteries in Ring Smart Lights will last for months with normal use, there are several factors that may impact battery life, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. Try adjusting the following settings to get the longest battery life from your device:
Set Light Sensors to 0 or 1 so that the lights only turn on if it's very dark. Reduce the brightness to the lowest setting. Set Group Auto Shutoff time to 30 seconds. For alkaline (replaceable) battery devices, we strongly recommend using name-brand batteries such as Amazon Basics, Duracell, or Energizer. Always use fresh batteries of the same brand. While batteries in Ring Smart Lights will last for months with normal use, there are some factors that may impact battery life.
1. Weather conditions:
Extreme hot and cold temperatures can impact your battery life and performance. Replaceable alkaline batteries that are required for some Ring Smart Lights can be impacted when temperatures drop below 41˚F/5˚C, but performance returns to normal once temperatures warm up. For Solar devices, Ring has placed certain limits on battery functionality in extreme hot and cold temperatures to protect your devices. For example, at the most extreme temperatures, some Ring solar devices will enter Sleep Mode.
2. Increased activity:
The more motion events are triggered by your Ring Smart Lights, the more your battery is used to power the device. If your device is reacting to an excessive number of events each day, you may find that your batteries drain faster than expected.
To prevent excessive activity, you can take the following actions:
Adjust your Motion Settings to a lower sensitivity. Adjust your Light Sensor to a lower sensitivity. Disable Motion Detection during specific hours of the day. Change Smart Alerts to Standard or Light. Adjust the direction of your Ring product.
The following tips and tricks will help you use the light and motion sensors on your device to maximize battery life and reduce the number of unwanted motion alerts.
For longest battery life:
Set Light Sensors to 0 or 1 so that the lights only turn on if it's very dark. Reduce the brightness to the lowest setting. Set Group Auto Shutoff time to 30 seconds.
To reduce daytime activation:
Set Light Sensors on devices to a low setting so the lights only turn on in the dark. For Linked Device triggers, set a time window that closely mimics darkness outside. When creating the link for a device to trigger the lights on Spotlight Cam, Floodlight Cam or another group, consider making the time schedule available later in the night to earlier in the morning.
If your Ring Solar Pathlight becomes unresponsive, press the reset button. Duration depends on the situation, but seven seconds is a good start. Once the device is reset, you will need to follow the steps to add the device back to Ring app.
This will reset settings on the device as well as download any firmware updates. If any additional information is needed regarding your Ring Solar Pathlights, please reach out to our Community. Ring Community is our first peer-to-peer community forum, giving our customers the ability to help one another and share their feedback and experiences directly with Ring.
Thank you, Melissa from Ring.

Best Buy website does NOT make clear that one has to order a ring bridge in addition to the lighting in order for it to work and offers no special pricing for ordering after lights received. Will find out tomorrow if the 2 lights with bridge I ordered from Lowe's will give us a working system. Buy this system from knowledgeable clerk in store that actually stocks them!

Hello Woodia,
Thank you for your attention on the subject. We know how important it is for our customers to understand our Smart Light's requirements before making a purchase. We are here to shed some light on the matter and help where we can.
You are correct, a Ring Bridge is needed to group Ring Smart Lights together and receive notifications whenever motion is detected. It also pairs your Ring Smart Lights with other Ring Smart Lights, Ring doorbells and cameras, and select Alexa-enabled devices.
Without one, your Ring Smart Lights will still function, minus the automation features mentioned above.

Per the description, “up to 80 lumens of brightness.” These devices provide enough light to follow a path, in other words one can see their light in the dark, but they shine so little light around them as to be nearly useless for the purpose of illuminating the ground of a path - for this purpose I find them to be surprisingly unsatisfactory.
