It sounds like you are enjoying the features the Ring Stick Up Cam has to offer, but there are some concerns regarding the setup and battery life. If your Ring Stick Up Cam does not respond when putting the battery in, check the following things:

Ensure your camera’s battery is 100% charged prior to installing it.
Charge the battery for five to 10 minutes, then reinsert it. (You may need to try a different power outlet or micro-USB charging cable if there are no charging lights lighting up on the battery.)
If the camera is still not powering on, hold the setup button for 20 seconds.
Contact customer support if the issue persists.

With regard to battery life, the rechargeable battery can go months between recharges with normal use. However, this is dependent on a number of factors in your home’s environment, such as the local weather and the number of activities captured. The more events captured by your Ring devices, the more your battery is used. Using Live View often can also drain your battery faster. If your device is capturing an excessive number of events each day, you may need to recharge your battery sooner.

To prevent excessive activity, under Motion Settings for your device in the Ring app, you can:

Adjust your motion sensitivity slider to a lower sensitivity.
Redraw your customizable motion zones.
Change the motion frequency to regularly or periodically.

If you are faced with a black screen when viewing Ring video's and live events in the Ring App, the problem may be related to port settings on your router. In business environments and certain home environments, incorrect port settings can cause device set ups to fail, as well. Generally, Ring devices and the Ring application can access the ports they need without any problems. Occasionally a firewall on the router (gateway) in your home or business may be configured to block one or more of these ports.

It is also possible that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may be blocking these ports. In such cases, the Ring device won’t be able to respond to Live View requests from your mobile device and you may receive motion notifications (or ding events in the case of the doorbell) but find yourself unable to connect to the video.
