    Classic John Wayne Western

This classic 1959 Western movie stars John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, Angie Dickinson, Walter Brennan and Ward Bond. The villains are played by veteran character actors John Russell and Claude Akins. Also, look for character actor Bing Russell (father of Kurt Russell) in an uncredited role as the cowboy who is shot by Claude Akins which leads to the movie's conflict. Legendary Howard Hawks is the director. The video of the Blu-ray is very good. The special features include commentaries by director John Carpenter and film critic Richard Schickel.

This is a great John Wayne classic western. I'm converting my library to digital and there's no digital copy, it also won't work on disc-to-digital with Vudu. :(

The movie is fantastic and great cinema. The picture quality is a good improvement over the previous dvd and looks great. the sound is not bad either for an older film. As for the special features everything from the previous dvd release is included here as well as the commentary with john carpenter. overall great price and great purchase.

This movie is sneaky-great. John Wayne's character has to hole up in the jail with only a drunk, a kid, and a goofy old man to help him stay alive. It's almost a "hangout" movie at times, but the cast works together brilliantly. Angie Dickinson is also fantastic in her role. This is a must-own for any classic movie buff.

What else can you say. This is classic John Wayne with an all star supporting cast. The movie is crystal clear and you have to enjoy a young Angie Dickinson. Great story line and Dean Martin as a drunken Sheriff he fits the part perfectly. I watch it every time it is on TV now I can watch it when I want to.

OK, there's a lot of similarities between this and El Dorado, but in this one we get a cackling Walter Brennan, and some singing by Ricky Nelson and Dean Martin, particularly, a version of Cindy, and My Rifle, My Pony, and Me. This movie also answers Sheldon's question of "Who's Angie Dickinson?"

One of my favorite John Wayne movies. In my opinion the Duke's performances were greatly improved when great directors directed his movies. This is an example of him raising his performance to what the director required. Dean Martin also excellent in this movie.

A western classic and the blue ray adds to it for both sound and color. I have own this in VHS, DVD and now Blue ray, it is a great story and can be watched over and over. Great acting from all especially a very young Ricky Nelson. Dean Martin gives his greatest performance.

Considering the age of the movie, the audio and video are very good (which is why 4 instead of 5 stars). The extras are decent and will keep you entertained. This is an excellent addition to my movie library collection. The movie itself is a classic, and if you (or your kids) haven't seen it, it is well worth picking up for a western movie night.

I grew up on John Wayne films thanks to my mom and this one in particular takes me back to my childhood. Just a fun, shoot-em-up Western with the Duke, and the King of Cool, Dean Martin. Hollywood icons and a fun plot with plenty of action....highly recommend.

This was the first John Wayne film I ever saw so when it went to blu I had to get. You've got the duke teaming with Dean Martin, Walter Brennan and Ricky Nelson with an added bonus it was directed by Howard Hawks, if you like westerns you'll love Rio Bravo.

A towns in trouble. A group of three nobel dudes are there to protect it from a roaming, lawless gang. Howard Hawks puts forth a tentpole effort that benefits from repeat viewings. There's also commentary from John Carpenter which is always awesome.

I purchased this bluray for my Dad. He loved this movie when it is shown on tv. It is a really wonderful cowboy movie. The good guys win, and the bad guys are taken care of. Love the whole cast. If you like cowboy movies this is a great one.

One of my personal favorite John Wayne classics. Good hi-def video transfer, especially considering the age of source material. Audio is a lossless 1.0 soundtrack that does the job, but consider the age of this movie before being too critical.

One of the best movies out there. Seeing it in blu ray for the 1st was truly like "seeing" the movie for the 1st time ever. The widescreen presentation filled my 65" Vizio M with beauty. Even the villians looked good!

Might not be one of the great classics, but this is a fun western. Howard Hawks was one great filmmaker, and knew how to stage exciting action. This is a lot of fun to watch. So glad it's finally on Blu-ray.

This has been on of my most favorite John Wayne movies since I was a kid. I was stoked to see this on blu-ray. The picture is great but I wish it was in 5.1 instead of 1.0 for sound. Still worth getting though.
